The Garden of Morning Calm (Korean: 아침고요수목원) is an arboretum located at the east of Seoul, in the Gapyeong district of South Korea. On 300,000 m², it houses 5,000 species of plants, some rare or endangered and attracts 600,000 tourists per year. The name of this garden reminds that Korea is often nicknamed the "country of the morning calm". There are different festivals in this garden, especially in winter with a light festival.
Designed in 1996 by professor Han San-kyung of Sahmyook University with the ambition of spreading the Korean interpretation of beauty, it is an artistic space based on concepts of asymmetry and balance. It is divided into twenty sections. The Garden of Plants, for example, is home to about 1,000 species of flowers from all over Korea. The most popular part is Sukgeun Garden, which takes the shape of the Korean peninsula, symbolizing the desire for reunification.

We've been here winter of 2017, during the evening. The whole area is lit with beautiful lights, but nothing really special, in my opinion. So we didnt go back here when we travelled to korea last February. Now i know why this isnt really very special during the winter. Because this place is such a stunner during autumn. Theyre just designing it with lights during winter to at least give tourists a reason to visit during winter.

여기 간지가 벌써 17년전인듯하네요 그때도 진짜 예뻤는데 단짝 친구랑 버스 갈아타고 구불구불 비포장 도로위로 덜컹거리는 버스를 타고 갔던때가 생각이 나네요 초여름쯤 수목원 입구에 무궁화가 만발이었는데 수목원 옆으로 흐르는 깨끗하고 차가운 개울가며 함께 즐겁게 사진 찍었던 때가 생각나네요 코로나가 끝나면 가을 어느날 꼭 가보고 싶어지네요
