Thymoma: Current Status and Future Directions

In Greek, the thymus means "soul" which stemmed from the belief that it houses the soul. In reality, the thymus gland is the seat of our immune system. Without it, we would die from overwhelming infections as infants. But like other tissues in the body, cancers can develop from the thymus. These are called thymic epithelial tumors (or TETs), which consist of thymoma and thymic carcinomas. TETs are rare tumors that arise in the chest and are associated with a unique pattern of spread and association with many different types of autoimmune diseases such as myasthenia gravis, hypogammaglobulinemia, and blood disorders. Since the early 1980s, investigators from the cancer center have led clinical and basic research in TETs that has made it an international center of excellence for thymic tumors.

Hi From Australia, Just had a 15mm Thymoma removed originally B1 after taken and pathology changed to AB . Now needing to have radiation. . Because couldn’t clear a margin. I’m 58 reasonably healthy person . I believe mine was stress related . My journey continues. Thank you so informative . ❤

Hi Drs.., I’m 48, living with stage 4 thymoma cancer. Diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in 2022, CT Scan showed invasive thymoma. Booked for surgery, then, surgery was aborted, my professor found out that there’s a tissue that has infiltrated to the lining of the right lung. Biopsy was done, results showed that there were cancer cells present. I’ve done 5 cycles of chemo and several CT stagings, which showed a bit of improvement here and there. Then, I was ordered to to a PET Scan mid May. After my Drs analysed my results, I was then told to book for radiation. I’ve just seen my radiation oncologist this week. So now,will be waiting for the date of the radiation 🙏🏾
