I love your videos. This has always been a man's problem, measuring inches. LOL If this is a 6" incision, then your fingers must be 14" long! Keep up the great work.

Is this to do with body thyroid levels? Can you talk about Thyroid and hormones. You're a relatable surgeon. Hence the reason I like you.

The thyroid gland is what produces thyroid hormone. In this case, the patient did not have issues of hyperthyroid or hypothyroid because the nodule was non-functioning (meaning it did not make thyroid hormone). They removed it because it kept growing and was making it difficult to swallow. They sent the removed specimen to pathologist who confirmed it was not cancer. If people have cancerous thyroid nodules they will need to have the gland removed. Typically, cancerous nodules do not produce thyroid hormone so the levels will be normal or low if the cancer invades too much of the gland. Sometimes people will have nodules that over produce thyroid hormone, or they will have a disease which causes their thyroid gland to produce too much thyroid hormone. There are a couple ways to handle this but sometimes removing the thyroid is necessary/preferred. Any time you remove the thyroid gland you will need to take levothyroxine (thyroid hormone) for the rest of your life and get levels checked periodically to make sure they are at the right level. Hope this helps
