This is so good for revision! One thing I'd like to mention is at our uni they often implore us to explain the need to stand behind the patient for palpation of the neck and associated lymph nodes. They recommend we make sure the patient understands that, so that they don't get uncomfortable :)

In ghana we do the process reversely ...we start with the thyroid directly, to the face and end with the hands. This is to make sure, time doesn't run out during you exams without eliciting the most important skill

Hi guys Just to clarify Exophthalmos is when the whiteness of sclera is visible all around the iris. Proptosis is when the eye has protruded so far forward .
@Victor_Costa318 жыл бұрын
Are you sure they aren't the same thing?
@afnanairol75457 жыл бұрын
exophthalmos is use when the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism is confirmed while proptosis is a general term used for protuded eye

Great video as always. Wouldn't hurt to add Pemberton's test in a new version (Although a 3 minute test in an OSCE setting is rare) as well as palpating the carotid pulse for Berry's sign (Absence of carotid pulse). Lid lag finger movement was a bit slow in my opinion but not a big deal.

Is fasting necessary for thyroid blood test?
@couturegalx38 жыл бұрын
Does it matter which reflex you do to test reflexes in this exam?
@MuhammadBerki8 жыл бұрын
+couturegalx3 my teacher told me to do ankle reflex... I dont think it should matter biceps is easy to perform I mean for osce it takes less time
@Golden938 жыл бұрын
+couturegalx3 not necessarily. It is to gauge whether there is hyper/hyporeflexia depending on the thyroid function. All reflexes should be the same from a thyroid point of view.

very good video but it does not talk about pain the patient is having in the thyroid area. When palpating in the thyroid is it hurting etc
@geekymedics9 жыл бұрын
+Pandelis Katsianis This is a valid point. As a medical student or doctor you should always consider this. In this video the examiner doesn't ask about discomfort, as we were focusing on the actual technique, however in your practice it's always best to ask about discomfort.
@SageMots8 жыл бұрын
+Geeky Medics With respect to technique, shouldn't the examiner assess the trachea from the front of the patient?
@dr.zinaart52748 жыл бұрын
+SageMots It's better to assess the tracheal deviation from front.
