(9-25-19) This is the elevator for the NSU station of the Tide Light Rail in Norfolk. This is the first time I have seen a TKE Endura MRL.

I've been on the Tide multiples times, and I pass by this station every time I go to MacArthur. I've also rode this elevator at least once.

That box thing is the machine. There’s also protection to make sure the elevator itself doesn’t hit it.

Yeah... initially I thought that too. lmao But if you look closely, you’ll see that the car frame is what is supposed to hit the springs, and it clears the bottom of the cab enough to do it before the cab hits the power unit.

@@davidng2336 such protection isn’t really necessary, as the elevator car would already have activated the final limit switches and hit the springs by then. It is impossible for the car to “hit” the power unit, by design.

As you can see, this Elevator was Installed on November 20, 2014!! It was it's 5th Birthday 5 Days ago!!

My university has this. You know it’s Endura MRL when you see the panel on the one of the top floors, which was on the left when you filmed it. I know several enthusiasts don’t like hydraulic MRL but I say as long as you maintain it right and frequently, it shouldn’t have any problems.

5:55 if you pay close attention, you can see the cab oscillate a little from side to side as it moves upwards. The oil pressure seems to be fluctuating a bit between the two hydraulic jacks...

It’s interesting to see an elevator installed at a rail station that is not generic, or at least using generic fixtures and/or equipment. Furthermore, how do you railroaders feel about light rail operators and staff? Are they fellow railroaders or are they not quite that tier...

basically we look at them as glorified bus drivers. They have no where near the training we have.

I love light rail, but the operators are bus drivers, with many of them driving buses some days and trains the next day depending on what they’re assigned here in Phoenix.

I been on a super rare dover modded by a thyssenkrupp but they made the buttons transparent and you can acually see the wiring and the bulb in it

This model is pretty rare but hydro MRLs overall aren't rare.

@@LBSiUK Nor have I installation is only practical with a hole less telescopic piston or roped hydraulic, not a cylinder/piston type hydro elevator. I recently saw a roped hydro elevator, which still had a separate machine room.

@@TheTheo58 In-ground hydraulic lifts are just for show. They don't offer any significant advantages, apart from the lift is being pushed up from the middle, rather than the bottom which reduces wobble. This problem is eliminated by have a piston either side of the lift.

@@TheTheo58 MRL Hydraulics also are harder to freefall. In a motor room, you just go in there and release the valve. In an MRL, you need to open up the shaft door, climb into the pit, and release the valve.

@@wryt19 I've seen a few, but overall they're not very common. If not for one lucky find and Woodfield Mall, I probably never would have found one. There's only one in MI that I know of.
