I opened up a TI 83 and found one of the copper strips was almost gone due to a battery leak. I took a piece of copper tape and folded the adhesive over itself leaving just a bit of adhesive to tape to the calculator. Worked perfectly. Thanks for this great video!

You don't need to take the whole back off to adjust the metal wires touching the copper. You can see them and adjust them using a tiny screwdriver (or any small enough object to get through the two little rectangular holes below the batteries). I did and my calculator (which wouldn't even turn on before) works fine now. Thank you for the video, otherwise I wouldn't have known what to look for!

@vikcheban923 Thanks for this tip! My T6 bit can't reach the bottom row of screws so I can't remove the back cover. I was able to use a hair pin to shift the connectors as you did (hair pins are a multi-use tool, I swear). And BAM, ole faithful is back in business!

I was in little panic as i thought my calculator is dead. I bought this in 2008 and used only for a one year and never took it out until 2022 today. But the problem was exactly same as this video. I didn't have that "T6 TORX screwdriver" so i put the toothpick in too the liitle hole where the battery cover was placed to bend that metal wire to touch the contact you mentioned and Wow it's working again!!! Right side of metal contact was barely left haha. Thank you so much for this video

Really useful step by step diagnostic approach, I had worn contacts and also the wrong memory battery cr1632. Would recommend people remember to ground themselves or touch the side of a grounded computer case to discharge any static electricity before touching the chips otherwise they could fry and never know that's what caused it.

Hi it seems like you got a lots of know ledge and know your calculators. nice video and lots of info and examples. My ti83plus wasn,t used for about 1 year, i took it out of the drawer to use it,wouldnt turn on,so i replaced all of the 4 batteries except the 1616,it test 2.70 volts,seems ok, so after new installing 4aaa,it still did not want to turn on,finally after holding the on button down,then replacing the aaa battery with the on button held down, it came on, but a complete black screen is on my screen.. and i cannot get the black screen to go away... btw there is 6 volts on these contacts that you showed in this video. ty 100--100

A dark screen can be caused by the contrast being turned up too high. Check out this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2OpY3x_jdhpjcU A bad internal ribbon cable can cause all kinds of problems, including a black screen. See my video on cable repair. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4nKg2iHp6x7eJY

Hi I have a Ti - 82 calculator that I bought on ebay, unfortunately after a while I was doing operations it crashed in particular while doing operations with a variable, after it got stuck, I tried to use the batteries to reset it but it did not given no result, I also changed the buffer battery, but nothing now turns on but nonsense digits appear on the display and it does not turn off! Batteries must be removed. Can anything be done to solve the problem? Thanks.

Instead of moving the metal contacts to a good place on the copper sheets, I tried treating the copper sheets with isopropyl alcohol It worked.

Anyone having issues with any TI calculator, try to change the contrast by pressing 2nd and the up/down arrows. Often this can be the issue and not the batteries.

I found one of these walking home from school a few months ago, and it is only missing the carrying cover and half of the label around the screen has been cracked off, but otherwise it’s in good condition. The sad part though is that I cannot return it to the original owner because the name that was on the back has been scratched off.

Hi, can anyone tell me if this Ti-83 Plus can turn on if the button battery is not put in? I haven't used mine in a long while and it is dead. I've cleaned the contacts and still no dice. If it is the button battery then I'll go a new one (CR1616) is pretty hard to find here. Oh, it also has a bit of a 'burnt' screen. Many thanks in advance.
@c.davidgraves48486 жыл бұрын
The calculator will work without the memory battery. It just will not be able to save anything. BTW, it will also work with the CR1620 battery, which are more common than the CR 1616.
