My 99 had a 6 pin din connector on the back which went int an RF modulatorwhich then connected to the TV antenna conection via a coax cable.

That's what I had back in the day as well. But, much easier to use the din-composite output adapter instead. I think I got my cable on ebay, but they are also on arcadeshopper.com (at least, they were at one time).

I recently got one of these exact model TI99/4A. I have mine tested on a LCD TV via an RCA cable, before disassembly. What I want to do is replace all discrete components (caps, resistors, etc) with modern equivalents and am waiting for the F18A Mk.II to come out. A wish I have is for a modern motherboard that will fit in the TI while correcting some mistakes (like those damn patch wires).

I'm also on the list for the F18A MK II, I'm down for 2 of them when they're ready. Those will have an HDMI port and I'll definitely be releasing a video of that upgrade process once I get my hands on one!

One more thing, if you haven't seen the TIPI yet, please check this out kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3-zioqbeN1gos0 I'll be hooking mine back up in the next couple days, so much fun! I've been swapping between the TI and some Robotics projects lately but will be back on the TI soon. If you have or wind up getting a TIPI, look for 'jonecool' and say Hi :)

How on earth did you get a video signal out of the tape port? Best way to hook a TI up to VGA is with the very easy to install F18A, which replaces the 99's video chip with a new one....provides enhanced graphics (so you can play a demo port of super MArio Brothers and access 80 collumns in programs like Microsoft Multiplan) and native VGA out.

Composite TI cable is how I did it last year. Today, I have a little bit better way. I've been on the waiting list for the F-18A v2 (HDMI) for almost a year now they are great, if you can get one. If you can't you make do with what you got LOL

Hi, I enjoyed your video on retro pi. Can you help me out getting the TI 99/4a installed onto retro pi? Thanks
@WagnersTechTalk

Hi Jeff, I may create a video in the future on this when I dedicate time to explore it further. I'm running ti99sim on my RPi arcade cabinet. Although, I didn't get too sophisticated in terms of running disk/tape, just carts. There is some information available on atariage that may be helpful to you, here's a link:atariage.com/forums/topic/250767-how-to-install-ti-994a-ti-99sim-on-retropie-v36-raspberry-pi2-or-pi3/ The only issue I encountered when trying to get ti99sim running on my (Retro)Pi was that the naming of the BIOS file had to be exactly like the instruction stated (case-sensitive). I had downloaded the BIOS and the case was not correct. It wasn't until it dawned on me that I should make sure it's exactly like the instructions that I got it working. You're issue may be similar. Here are the exact instructions I went by and had success with: github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/TI-99 I hope it helps you, please drop me a note here to let me know it did help. I always like to hear success stories :)

you are unlucky, but really UNLUCKY of owning an american TI-99/4A, its composite video only! Us europeans have YPbPr non-standard output that gets converted to RGB thanks to the french PHA2037 converter unit that came with french TI-994A units! PAL is really my pal here!

Hoping to improve that this year, I'm on a waiting list for the F18A 😃 That would provide HDMI output.

Wagner's TechTalk might just wanna upgrade your vdp to a TMS9928a instead of the TMS9918 because it has the same quality output as the TMS9929a from the PAL 99/4a instead of the crappy composite of the 9918! I don’t know if the board has the traces wired for 9918 only so my guess would be to make a PAL 99/4a NTSC by replacing the vdp by a 9928a (NTSC equivalent to 9929a(PAL) )

It was very arcade quality back in the day. IMAGIC was just incredible for the TI99. Microsurgeon was revolutionary. Should have gotten massive attention.

Fixed, sorry about that. There were some changes sometime back and I never went back to all my videos to see how they were affected. There were way to many of them in several videos, not something I personally set that way but I could and did fix. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!

I hear you but CRT monitors/TVs are getting harder and harder to find in working order. Even my original TI monitor is starting to fade and the volume control is beginning to short out. Nothing a new cap kit and a little refurbishing couldn't resolve, but it's good to have other options too.
