We never use vellam directly in hot milk. There are chances of it curdling.

VIDHYA thank u so much. Instead of rice I keep thinai. Mix with vegetables (kootu,sabji,rasam,curd)it tastes nice. We can have with daliya (broken wheat) also. One kind of diet u can say. To cut down rice intake. Thinai, daliya u can have weekly 2to3days according to convince 👍☺
