How to do a chi square test with the TI NSPIRE CX calculator. We see how to obtain the chi squared value, the p value as well as how to get the expected frequency table. We start from our observed frequency table and clearly show how to get each of the chi squared related quantities.

What's the difference between the 2-way test you used here and the X^2-GOF right above? Does the GOF one test only one way or how is it different?

The GOF test allows us to determine whether a given set of data follows a certain distribution or not. Ex: we can use the GOF test to determine whether a set of data follows a normal distribution. On the other the hand the 2 Way test determines whether two categorical variables (ex ‘preferred color’ and ‘preferred clothing brand’) are independent from each other or not. Despite their similar name, the two tests are in fact, in practice, very different. Hope that helps a bit 😊

Hi Jingru, thanks for your comment. Unfortunately “no” the calculator can’t give us the critical value because it’s value depends on the degree of certainty we choose (1%, 5%, 10%, …). Hope that helps. Wishing you all the best ✌️
