@@TiagoCatarino Many players start off the game with only paper components or very cheap books. The only thing you TECHNICALLY need for D&D is a piece of printed out paper and some dice, if even that. But “blinging out” your game creeps up quick. This is for two reasons. 1) The game is so time-intensive when you have a good play group. This makes it so that you’re willing to make it look professional and immersive with cool minis, painted landscapes, tools, etc. 2) It is basically no cost of entry. In the same way that free-to-play games get you to spend a little bit at a time (ultimately leading to more than a solid price with no micro transactions) after getting you in for free, D&D takes advantage of that same part of the market. Basically, people like myself LOVE to make the game feel real using all 5 senses, and official WOTC products are plentiful because they know that. Thanks so much for covering this set! As a LEGO fan and a tabletop gaming nerd, this sounds right up my alley. Now I just have to decide between this and my next $300 miniature-based board game!

Another shortcumming (a real design flaw in architecture world): Remember, this is a PnP, with stats and variants of monsters to choose. So there were 6 sorts of dragons (1974): Green (gas), Red (fire), White (cold), Black (acid), Blue (light), and Gold (fire or gas). By round eyes and brickbuild wings, the original submission offer an option for a prefered dragon color (this calls Open Design principle!). But Lego did a Closed Design. Why not print its eyes on neutral (gray) plate? Or (if commit to non-open) offer 6 color packs.

Has anyone pointed out the striking architecture and layout similarities between the castle and tower to 6097 Dark Lord’s Tower from the Fright Knights? It has the same tall tower with the same number of floors. (There is a fourth floor implied in the dnd set but since it’s ruins, it has crumbled away) The trap door is essentially in the same place. The floor with all the spell books, skull, cauldron, etc-same floor as 6097, implying to be Willa’s study. The protruding bridge and its support arch is the same extended outdoor platform of 6097. The fireplace (that rotates) behind Basil’s throne in 6097 lines up along the wall (albeit shifted more to the side) of the inn’s fireplace here, implying that the inn was constructed around Basil’s old fireplace on the outside of the tower. And the side door on the ground floor of 6097 lines up with the inn’s dungeon entrance. There are warning signs in Medieval Town Square warning of Basil and his dragon. Basil is in this year’s CMF. He could still use these ruins of his tower as a hideout. It’s isolated on a lake away from the Lion Knights and Falcon Knights but obviously close enough that Basil is an imminent threat to the town. So if you want to remove the DnD monsters and elements, this is the ruins of Fright Knight’s tower after a major battle in 1997, cementing its place in the story and timeline of today’s modern castle line. That’s how I see it.

Hey Tiago! Long time fan of the channel and your content. Sometimes I agree with a lot of your opinions and reviews, and sometimes I disagree, which is good to have healthy discourse and debate regarding the direction of certain sets created by the LEGO Group. And with this set I’m far disagreeing with the price model of the set. I think using price/piece is not a healthy way to continue gauging whether a set is a practical purchase for a consumer, especially when a set like this is as expensive as it is. And with the advent of newer, smaller, more specific pieces emerge almost monthly, it’s important to question whether the shrinking of size of pieces is indicative to the true value of a part. Transitioning from the commentary about price/piece you comment about the luck of castle fans have had over the last few years, which I completely agree with… except if these fans are able to make enough money to justify the cost of these sets. With the release of Lion Knights’ Castle, Rivendell, Medieval Market, and now this it feels as though the standard price has skyrocketed to an average price of $372.50 USD when the last true wave of LEGO Castle were playsets composing of $15-$100 price points. And understanding that you receive review copies this is not as pertinent to you but could be valuable to expressing to your fans and viewers. While all these sets are truly beautiful love letters to LEGO Castle it is reasonable to want cheaper sets for those lower income families. LEGO is a company that vocalizes its inclusivity quite consistently but it feels as though the less fortunate are left out and completely alienated from the equation. If you read this thank you, I am eager to see what your thoughts are on the current market for these prices, and if you’re another viewer like me please feel free to comment as I am eager to engage in discourse around this!

I'd say this is a perfect collaboration, and potentially the start of a new theme. Lego is the perfect size for D&D, and the announced Minifigure series seems to play into that. We could get more adventure sets like this one, or other accessories, such as a dice tower or microscale terrain tiles. Even packs of buildable monster figures would add to player's collections well. To put things in scale, remember that Lego Minecraft started as an Ideas submission before being officially made by Lego and Mojang. Now look how far it's come since then. Lego and Hasbro could very well do the same with this theme.

I just got this set for Christmas. Has anyone tried to build it on a 48x48 baseplate MILS? Box says it 16 in wide and looks like it should fit.

Oh my…they even did STAT SHEETS FOR THE CHARACTERS?! This is such a cool set.

Awesome set, especially for castle fans, minifigures included. Should be cheaper for the size The dragon isn't so posable, so IMO its not necessarily better than Ninjago dragons, its on par with some of them All the castle set are too expensive, so while there's more castle sets, there aren't cheaper options available 9:00 the mimic chest should be widely available and not exclusive to a GWP or insiders reward I want to get into D&D now

Im gonna come back and say- if you go off the price of Nolzur Minis, the minis + Creatures included in this are worth about 100$. And the dragon is categorically better cause it's (mostly) posable. And people already use Minifigs for their DND minis 🤷♂️

I must admit it looks a lot better in person and the scale, especially the dragon, looks really good! 😍

Thiago, thank you for explaining this set! When I saw it I thought it looked terrible. Now I understand that it is not a shelf model. Thank you! Although the price still seems too high to me. Maybe Ninjago Modulars spoiled me too much?

This was unexpected! I have never played D&D before but this is an awesome model.

It really is! Wish I had friends to play this with 🥲

Never planned on buying this, though agree many nice features. Just last night, I crumbled, and purchased it after my nephew said he needed a castle for all the DnD minifigs I bought him for Halloween. Does the set not come with any printed adventure guide, dice and gamesheets though? Bit disappointed if not, but I'm sure I can sort this out.

Fun fact the gelatinous cube isnt actually colored. Artists do this to actually show you the creature. Its completely clear

I am so excited about this, While lots of people have been running D&D with lego now its now 10000000% offical. I am so excited to see what sets they will come out with.

Im running the lego adventure. i will need to expand the set in my vtt or use something else entirely since i have 8 players. but this video is very useful with me being able to take screenshots to study the layout and to make tokens with the individual monsters and lego figures. i had to keep pausing the video alot but great video and it really shows the set off well.

8:57 not to criticize but to inform as from your accent English isn't your first language dice is the plural the singular is die but even a lot of native English speakers mistakenly use a dice instead of a die so I can see how you got confused

And I love the green dragon guy so much😭

The point of the figures is just a reference to help you understand positions and orientation in battle and environments. Otherwise it can be hard to just describe the current locations of everyone relative to each other.

I like it! I’m glad they are trying new IP’s and not just Harry Potter and Star Wars.

Great review as always. On the dragon though, I must say Lego butchered the original design, which is way better. The dragon should be the one thing that Lego do not tinker with and I do not understand why they did.

Wow...I didn't realize that they went the extra steps to make this an actual playable D&D campaign! That's pretty amazing, and a fantastic way to incorporate a theme...even more so than the LEGO Super Mario theme, since this one doesn't require any special parts or apps; it's all just regular LEGO, but incorporates game elements. Rather ingenious, I have to say!

This looks like an amazing set. Just FYI, "dice" is already a plural - so you don't need "dices".
@nutherefurlong9 ай бұрын
Curious if the adventure is standalone or if you need other rules information to run it (Basic rules? Others?). Like if someone who is into D&D already wants to get this to show their group maybe it'd be a nice one-off adventure. Really like all the little secrets, quite a lot for a company that already puts fun secrets in bigger sets. No dice is a bit surprising, especially if it's an entry level adventure, maybe some production hurdle there? Lego's modularity already fits in with the custom nature of the RPG so I'm happy to see this, I hope they'll have less expensive stuff in this theme to experiment with. I guess minifigure blind bags may happen?

The head of the dragon??? You're sure? And many, many D&D fans will play with this... As I saw the first blurry pictures I was sure it's a Hulkbuster/Black Panther situation.

Lovely set and lovely minifigs. The price is a bit spicy (especially since lego fans would have to source other heads to repurpose the minifigs - but no skin on the torsos is great! ) I didn't notice if there are any more prints besides the beholder eyes, owlbear eyes , displacer beast eyes and the mimmic eyes. I hope the 2x1 tiles with spells on them are prints. Those would make up for a great collection of spells for fantasy castle fans.

Was wondering if it was worth the 360€. It actually looks pretty impressive next to the lion knight castle. not as big, but it's without all the creatures which include a huge dragon
@glassjar78149 ай бұрын
This is a very impressive set honestly. Next to the castle theme and LOTR models it will look great
