The animatronics are actually really good. Most of the issues with the ride stem from the weak narrative. In the original Splash Mountain followed the rule of "rising action" where the stakes slowly got more serious, with Brer Rabbit getting caught. The ride then meets its narrative and LITERAL climax with Brer Fox throwing him into the Brier Patch, right where the final drop of the ride is. With this new ride, there are no real stakes, so there is no sense of rising action, and the iconic final drop no longer signifies any narrative climax and is just...well, there.

The thing a lot of people forget, it seems, is that Brer Rabbit stories have been traced back to their origins...in Africa. They came across the Atlantic in the holds of the slave ships. The use of animal characters is basically a coat of paint because some people might have been more than a bit offended if they straight up said that Brer Rabbit's an escaped slave/freedman who is tricking those of higher status than himself. (There were a lot of these kinds of stories. One I particularly remember was a poor sharecropper who got told the deal was the landowner got all of the above-ground part of the crop...so he went okay! And planted potatoes. Landowner got wise, and said, okay, THIS year what's underground is my share of the crop...and the farmer went okay! and...well, didn't plant potatoes.) Does suggest it'd be very cheap to make a live-action version and just take some paint stripper to the camouflage. Just be nice and clear and go "For those of you in the back, THIS is what's really going down."

I was watching ClownfishTV reporting that Disney had released the video of Tiana's ride to avoid youtubers and influencers monetizing the first previews. Geeky Sparkles was commenting how that ride reminds her of the Na'vi ride with the projections and glowing mushrooms, especially when you're allegedly downsized then returned to your normal size by Mama Odie. And during that bit of the video, I was thinking how lame it is. The miniaturizing to a frog size is just an excuse for the empty background. Here and there a glowing giant mushroom. A few lost giant frogs. And bare pathetic cave walls. Jonas and Vash were pointing at the Spanish moss as prop. In French, we would call this "cache-misère". The translation is camouflage/screen/mask. But the literal translation is "hide misery". And in this present case, it's as much to hide destitution as it is to hide flaws. French people call something "cache-misère" self-deprecatingly because we would DIY some camouflage from scraps to hide something ugly, broken or defective that we can't afford or don't feel the need to replace or repair.

In fact, the fear of water in the city, let alone a waterway is very real. The city is below sea level, so around 150 huge water pumps work to remove water from the city as much as possible year around. So aside from this not being in the 1920's but noone actually cared to visit our state for this ride. According to racial laws in the United States at the time, would Naveen and Tiana have been permitted to marry? Doesn't the movie present him as being of Arabic descent whose marriage to a negro woman might not be considered valid in that jurisdiction, and potentially punishable by law? This is a critical plot point in Edna Ferber's' Showboat, so dramatically portrayed in a gut-wrenching moment when the white husband cuts his black wife's finger and sucks some of her blood, demonstrating that he was now black as well and could not be arrested for miscegenation.

It would have made for a better story and higher tension for the flume drops. A small nitpick I have too is that they could have incorporated hand drawn animation for the animated segments to match the original look and feel of the film. This is how a small change could drastically improve the ride. If they were to change the dialouge of Tiana just sitting there with perhaps one where she gets bound down by something right next to the laughing place. Then include a spirit of Dr. Facilier where the mama odie scene is where she turns u small. Adds more dramatic/green lighting around the vines instead of the golden lights, as well as using green and purple instead of yellow and blue for where the frogs are (laughing place) (make the lights below the water that shoots out green to look like attacks). change the screens of Louis and Tiana just.. watching u on screen to one of Dr.Facilier taunting u and have the fireflys attempting to swat the spirit or whatever away.. Dr Facilier tries to attack u one more time through the screen where it currently has momma Odie saying get ready to get big. Before we see her at the lift hill fighting a green fog machine.. Hinting that she succeeded in turning us big again. That would add tensions (especially if they include just the tail end of Friends on the other side. The part post the contract being done.. as u go up the lift hill)Then right at the end or whatever where the city can be seen in the background have like a small version of that potion bottle with a green light in it or something to symbolize his capture. And boom.. There u go disney. Theres tension.. it doesnt require too much and justs requires some new animations and changing the colors of lights.. but there u go.. Theres ur tension. even if its short.. its still tension.. and will dramatically improve the ride.

As someone who never watched the movie this is based off of, or have any desire to (I'm well past my "I need to see every Disney movie" part of my life with kids), I just hope this tells a story that is easy to follow (without needing to read any signs) and that I don't feel left out unless I watch the movie. But is there no "bad guy" on this ride? Something that there is a struggle against? Or is "finding the special spice" the struggle? Because I can't get behind that. I'm also curious on how they're going to integrate the drop into the story, before it was perfect "oh don't throw me off this big cliff into the briar patch!!" to ... what? "Into the pot you go, you special little spice" or something utterly stupid like that.

The bad guy from the movie apparently isn't politically correct enough either. They just like Tiana because she's black. And there doesn't seem to be an explanation for the drop.

Tiana's Bayou Adventure is wokism embodied in ride form. It’s vapid, boring, stupid, low quality, uninspired, unimaginative, and has a weak, uninteresting plot. The ride has substantial blank spaces and lacks quality show scenes because Disney is no longer able to create quality dark rides with animatronics and three-dimensional show scenes that don’t rely on screens to tell the story. The few animatronics are low quality despite the supposedly advanced technology used for them. The music is uninspired and terrible. The ride scene before the first big lift hill features what appears to be a plywood wall with pictures of food painted on it. I hope this is just a temporary construction wall and not a permanent show scene. Disney’s quality has declined so markedly that it’s no longer possible to discern the difference between a construction wall and what Disney considers good enough to be a permanent show scene. This ride would have been better off being based off of The Princess and the Frog movie and should have included Dr. Facilier. Tiana's Bayou Adventure is abysmal in its own right and is made even worse by the fact that it replaced Splash Mountain which was a fantastic ride that ranked among the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean as Disney’s best rides. Splash Mountain was not racist and did not need to be replaced. Tiana's Bayou Adventure was not a “necessary downgrade” as the Disney apologist blog, Blog Mickey, absurdly states. Downgrading Splash Mountain was unnecessary and was done to appease a woke fringe minority who is offended by everything. Disney wants to condition its park guests to accept a downgraded, lackluster park experience as normal which guests should never accept. Customers should refuse to spend money on a terrible, purposely downgraded experience. The frequent breakdowns of this ride must be part of the “necessary downgrade” of Splash Mountain to Tiana's Bayou Adventure and are symbolic of the decline of Disney.

Why do they still use the logs? It's a bayou , why not a bayou boat?

There's only one reason for all this hate, you people are sad.

Splash Mountain's soul got ripped out and stuffed into one of those voodoo spirit bottles they have hanging everywhere. Gigantic spirit bottles in place of where cool animatronics were before. The whole thing glows like one big purple spirit bottle at night. Hard pass.

I won’t watch ride throughs seeing as how I will be experiencing it in person on Thursday…I’m trying to be unbiased before experiencing it, but so far all of the cast members that I know that have ridden it said it was boring and not as good. Really makes me nervous. Maybe they’ll need to do a redo in the coming years.

The fact that Prince Naveen wasn’t heavily featured in this ride is very disappointing. They could’ve made more animatronics of him instead of just showing him in the end

I still can't believe that Disney thought that this was going to save them from Epic Universe. This ride looks even worse than I thought it would!

Is it just me or did the same person design Moana that designed Tiniqua, er Tiana? Their faces are identical. Hmmm, are they twins separated at birth?

I noticed the Tiana animatronic seems like a re skin of the belle animatronic from Tokyo Disneyland
