Can't believe I missed this episode. I seem to be missing them more and more. Just my opinion, but I think the thumbnails just blend in with everything else on KZbin. Like this came out right in the middle of everyone posting videos about Tiana's and I probably assumed it was another ride through. Just worried it might be getting lost in the mix for folks other than myself as well. Just my opinion, but I think if y'all's faces were on the thumbnail... or if there was some larger branding... or something to differentiate it, it'd be harder to miss when scrolling. Love the show and all you guys do!

Look at how the Shrek ride at Universal brought Farquad back. It would have been easy to bring back Dr. Faciler with a simple line like, "Your about to take a while ride, 'cause I'm bringing you to the other side." And then you escape to Tiana's party. Simple.

@AuraLeafstorm7 ай бұрын
The ride definitely needs a villain, or at least a more serious problem for the characters to solve than just "We need some musicians for the party. Oh look, there's some!" because without something a bit more compelling, the story's too simplistic for the length of the ride, and there's no tension leading up to the drop. Building tension may seem unnecessary for a ride that's meant to be cute and fun, but without it, there's less catharsis during the final celebration scene, and that definitely matters.

Princess and the Frog was a gold mine. Incredible music. Wonderful characters. One of the best villains. Why oh why did Disney not decide to follow the movie storyline instead of this new....whatever it's supposed to be. Tiana's garden? Weren't we supposed to be in a salt mine or something looking for an ingredient? But forget that, now we are looking for critter musicians for the band. Why is Tiana dressed like she's going on safari? Why did Mama Odie make us small, and then make us big again? I'm so confused. And bored. Yawn. Where are Ray and Evangeline? Why do we only see Prince Naveen for 3 seconds? (Honestly, I almost missed him - had to go back and check to see that he was even there.) Most egregiously, why isn't there some suspense before the big drop? Omitting Dr. Facilier was such a huge oversight. He's the Shadowman - he can certainly come back with his Friends on the Other Side to chant "are you reaaddddyy?" before guests escape his grasp and go to the party. The animatronics are good. Exterior is pretty. End scene is fun. But this attraction is not worthy of losing Splash Mountain (which I agree was cringy and in serious need of updating/retheming). PATF is so amazing it should have been impossible to screw up, yet somehow they did.

Let’s be honest Tiana’s Bayou adventure could have been better. The budget was definitely cut it seems. One idea I had while watching the pov ride video was, during the double drop when you are turned into a frog they could’ve added some fog elements to make it more magical of a change and added the same lights that are on the main left before the big drop. But of course that’s just my opinion.

Disney is so cheap these days, the POV is their chance to do a big reveal that wows the audience and they just mounted a GoPro. They cheated out the same way with the galactic star cruiser commercials. They could have shot it from all kinds of angles, added animation and an actor or two and even the POV should have its own story. They are lazy and cheap and I am less excited every time something new comes out.

Their job descriptions even tout that every employee is a part of the story telling. I just think the story of being shrunk down to find band members for a band to play at Tiana's party in New Orleans where, ahem, obviously there are no bands.... it just is not the greatest story line for Disney story tellers. Also, some of us don't live in Florida and won't make it back down in a little while, so POV videos are better than listening to everybody talking about a ride until you actually can ride it. TPATF is not my favorite Disney movie but it was certainly a pretty decent story …& it gave us one of the most iconic Disney villains in the last couple of decades. This is such a disappointing ride. Such a missed opportunity! They did Tiana dirty. I loved Splash Mountain but I was willing to give this update a chance. This is an outright terrible story. They should have just had a typical retelling of the original story of the film. It would have been easier to just follow that storyline and they could have had some amazingly cool Dr Facilier animatronics and animation . The imagineers had an epic fail when it comes to a “sequel” oriented attraction. I agree that attractions are meant to be experienced in person but I can tell pretty easily whether or not a ride has a good story. Story is everything…if a movie has impressive special effects but is lacking story then it is not a quality film. The same goes for attractions unless it’s just an off the shelf attraction where story isn’t the main focus. With a long flume ride with that much space that’s prime for thorough storytelling and tons of impressive effects and animatronics…it doesn’t come close to reaching its full potential. If you just have pretty scenes and updated animatronics then that’s fine but without an entertaining and/or thrilling storyline that people can easily follow but not get bored with…then it’s a fail. Every outspoken fan critique has been mentioning the need for Friends on the other side and the “are you ready?” Sound bite being so perfect. How did the professionals miss this and decide it was better to go with the “getting ready to go to a party” non-storyline? This is another example of failure on the part of imagineers. They ruined the Auction scene in POTC which I was also open to seeing potential changes to. I love how these three defend the story but then admit that the whole point is getting to a party and finding band members. Is that kind of story something that would draw people in? Would anyone go see a Disney movie with that premise? No Even pirates has the dead men tell no tales before the drop. Suspense and storytelling is important and if we went on pirates and the story was “we all have to get to an auction” or “we have to go find Jack Sparrow”…that would be a similarly lame premise to base an entire attraction on. I’ve heard plenty of people complain about Navi River Journey being pretty but boring and not having much of a story. This feels very similar and I’ve actually ridden that ride. The video is the same as riding it…boring but pretty. If they don’t have the shaman at the end then I wish I had those minutes of my life back because then there is almost no draw other than the appeal of the air conditioning and pretty lights It’s not just Universal giving Disney a run for its money…Tokyo Disney is upstaging our domestic parks. I don’t think they would settle for a lame attraction like this because even their Frozen attraction is better (no freaky light up animated faces) I’m a lifelong Disney fan but Disney just isn’t delivering on storytelling and quality in recent years

What is the story of Pirates of the Caribbean?
@laurenmichero90037 ай бұрын
@@DISUnlimited well it depends on which attraction youre referring to. They are all a little different. The one in Shanghai has a more clearly defined story because they’re basing off of the movies but the ones stateside are more about immersion into the world with several vignettes of pirates doing what they do best…looting, shooting canons, drinking, and of course singing. Granted the story is not linear enough to base a movie off of it (they obviously made the movies using the ride as inspiration only) but my point stands. It is immersive and entertaining and thrilling with plenty of sound effects like wind and lightning and creepy narration and lighting effects to create suspense before the drop(s). Thankfully, like I said, the entire story is not all about making our way to an auction having the characters leading us to an auction where the grand finale is the auction. Or “let’s get some singing pirates”. Imagine if looking for the three singing pirates was what every character talked about or led us down pointless drops to find. The point of the ride and the lead up to the main drop is about hurrying to get to the party and getting the band together. At least the pirates ride has action and suspense like Splash Mountain. Splash had the cute scenes, iconic music especially the signature song that people can sing along with, cute animatronics, immersive scenes, and a storyline that actually follows the reference material. I know SOTS is controversial but the Brer Rabbit story is a classic that had a clear beginning middle and end with the climax of the story timed perfectly with the big drop. The finale is a celebration but the real culmination of the story is that we have followed Brer Rabbit throughout the ride and he is finally successful in outsmarting and getting away from his two famous foils and we can celebrate his victory along with him and his animatronic friends. Also the big drop is Brer Rabbit being thrown into the briar patch and we go along because we must but now the drop is about getting to a party on time, but it just lacks the same sense of urgency and necessity to go that way and take that “risk”.
@DISUnlimited7 ай бұрын
Immersion isn’t story but a story can help achieve immersion. A lot of theme park attractions don’t have a strong story or one at all and fall back on vignettes or “we’re going to take you on a journey and something goes wrong along the way.” TBA does have a story whether or not it resonates and action/suspense is just a preference. No one is saying it’s a small world is a bad attraction because it has no suspense and the story is loose at best being about children around the world singing as one. At the end of the day, we are all entitled to our own opinions, but it’s all subjective.
@laurenmichero90037 ай бұрын
@@DISUnlimited True. a good story allows for immersion and you can have immersion without much story but those usually aren’t the rides that resonate with people . There are a lot of attractions that don’t have much story or have a lame story, and usually those are ones that aren’t the marquee attractions that people have high expectations for. Would pirates or haunted mansion be classic attractions without the nostalgia factor…or most especially would Small World? Maybe not but the nostalgic setting and the iconic songs help move the rider along and we just go with it. When you have a new attraction with this kind of sequel story that’s taking the place of a ride with a clear storyline that everyone still remembers from when they rode it, it’s harder to accept the change after experiencing something so different. It’s missing that “something goes really wrong” aspect, a clear villain or a compelling obstacle to overcome and the only way to overcome it is to go on the flume ride. The obstacles we’re supposed to overcome here are not motivation enough to go on a long journey or take a treacherous drop to get there. The imagineers are just running with these subpar replacements to classic attractions or changes to classic scenes from current attractions that don’t resonate with people. In the “kiddie” rides with little to no storyline, you know what you’re getting and don’t have the same high expectations. Marquee attractions come with a responsibility to deliver and many fans feel like this is another instance where they failed
@DISUnlimited7 ай бұрын
Pirates of the Caribbean, small world, and Haunted Mansion became classics. They didn’t open with nostalgia because that’s a sentimental view of the past that grows with time. If a ride stands the test of time and continues to be popular 20,30,40,50 years later that defines a classic. Yes, Splash was classic but needed to change. Tiana’s may become a classic too. Time will decide that. And again, what you believe is just subjective. Space Mountain has excitement without what you believe is missing from TBA. Same goes for Big Thunder unless you get real loose and consider the most basic idea that it’s a runaway mine train being the “something goes wrong aspect.” Time will tell, but I wouldn’t be surprised if one day the narrative is its great because of the drops and animatronics similar to Splash being cited as great not for its story, but the layout and pacing of the flume itself and the music.

I dont think its a competition between Disney and Universal to be the same. The competition is who can wow their park goers more. Thats the whole point. They are both similarly priced so the idea is to compete for guests.

Honestly it seems lame, its dead space, it has no suspense, I just don't like it. Didn't Igor also say at some point " This is boring". Telling fans who watch the video to " get over ourselves " ? Every disney fan comment on reddit, and the video posted by Disney itself has a 73 percent dislike rate compared to likes, with 26,000 dislikes to 9,000 likes. With hundreds and hundreds of comments saying they don't like it with thousands of likes on those comments. It's not a minority of fans thinking this. You don't have to agree, but don't need to be told to get over ourselves. Being nice always wins....... But this last line is what matters... I'm still gonna ride it ;]

I just rode it. I can confirm it was awful! Splash was 100x better. The storyline is so weak it has to be explained by the animatronics otherwise you’re so confused, the Louis animatronic is already not working, it’s not just the pov videos the space is empty with so many dark blank areas with nothing, super boring I wanted to close my eyes and imagine it was splash the whole time, there is no build up for the drop so much so that I forgot there was even a drop until the drop happened. It was terrible!

@DISUnlimited7 ай бұрын
600 I could see for the proximity, potential MK views, and resort amenities. Not the prices you suggested beyond though and not at all for the quality of what’s in the room.

@DISUnlimited I just check room rates for early November, no holidays, etc. $937.33/night plus taxes for water view. That's about $1050/night. Garden wing is $690.67++.

No of course not. That’s why I stick to the Poly or GF when I’m on the monorail loop. The DVC deluxe studios at the Poly are beautiful with two bathrooms, and the Mary Poppins rooms at the Grand Floridian are gorgeous. The Incredibles rooms at the Contemporary look like they should be in Universal’s Cabana Bay, which is a nice resort, but it’s also a value resort, not a premium deluxe priced at four figures per night.

I would have loved Tiana’s to be themed as happy to introduce the ride and reintroduce the character’s, then scary when Dr Facilier is brought in with his song on the incline, then happy again However I’m not heart broken this isn’t the route they went, and I am very excited to ride it as it is Especially as someone who loves the villains more than any character, and villain songs are almost always my favorite (except for Wish…) I would have loved to see that incline while “Are you ready” is being chanted in the background But it’s okay that it didn’t happen!! I’m still very excited😊

Disney releasing its own POV before anyone else is pretty shocking in itself. Then you add the storyless attraction on top of that. I know ow you guys had said to ride the ride ourselves and form an opinion. True. But for us who live across the country and aren’t sure when the next time we will be in Disney World, this is what we will have for awhile to go off of and from the looks of the video, this disappoints. Unless the video is missing some massive story point, I’m pretty sure this is what we’re going to see as we ride with maybe an extra frog or duck in the corner or the darkness that we missed. I’m not going to say they should bring splash back because they won’t, but at least listen to the fans and give us a ride we can all enjoy.

Disney specifically released an official POV ride video for the millions of people who don’t have the means or the luxury to experience it as soon as it opens. Some people can only do WDW once, or every few years, and watching ride videos is an efficient way to get a feel for which attractions a guest might want to ride, and which ones they feel they can skip. So yes, it is perfectly reasonable to form an opinion based on a ride video, especially an official one.
