The airing of grievances, then an airing of appreciation, such a balanced channel. Great items too!

Wow that vise from Germania would've cost a small brick of gold to ship. Well done fellow viewer.

I’m more impressed the box from Germany wasn’t totally destroyed. USPS often can’t get a package delivered in one piece from just one state over.

Vise restoration videos seem to do very well for some reason. That German bench vise looks like a great project.

You're spoiled Jeremy. These are all very nice gifts. I'm sure you will make very good use of them. And indeed, when Bill makes a knife it's always a piece of art.

Wow Jeremy, that vice is something else and I can’t imagine what it cost to post it. I really admire the tapping chuck, that is such a nice and useful piece. Gotta love the knife too for obvious reasons, but it really is beautiful. Cheers mate, Stuart 🇦🇺

The other thing about post vise is that the jaws do not close parallel, they're hinged. So when you close work in there to strike it from on top, the work only wedges tighter into the jaws rather than slipping or knocking out like would happen in bench vise or whatever.

Love that German vice, What a beaut bit of gear. Thort i'd let you discover the magnet, much easier than stuffing around with straps and studs but still holds it securely enuf. Cheers Jeremy🍺

I have a PW style bench vise that is wrought iron and now that you say it, maybe the jaws are steel and forge welded on. There was a lot of slag even after all this time. I wire wheeled a lot. All of the vise is hand made and wrought iron, except the lead screw is steel and the nose for the handle (had many cracks) and the slide carrier is cast iron. Beautifuly wrought iron lines visible. I had to replace the wrought iron bolts and nuts, though.

Assuming the bit of green paint on the post vise is original, it's most likely a Colombian.

That German vice looks awesome. But. What a terrible design. The rear moving jaw means no long stuff can be gripped lower than the bench top ! I first thought how good it was to have the lip on the front to align the rear jaw with the edge of the bench. Then you demonstrated how it worked and I went off it 😥

Many europeans work with back openers and have no problems, design can't be too terrible. Please note that the back jaw is not flush with the table when you close the vise, but sticks out a bit. So there is some room to clamp vertical, just not very thick stuff. The back opening design originates from a patent by Leinen, the idea was that the work piece and the moving jaw are more over the table (which can be good with very heavy vises since the center of gravity stays over the table) and the moving jaw has lots of contact with the static jaw. If you grow up with european back openers they look totally natural to you. Brockhaus-Heuer later welded the legs on the dynamic jaw and removed the ones from the static jaw to convert it to a front opening design.
