Ok, this what happen to DxD, the reason why Author changed the Studio.. Author Ichiei Ishibumi, director Tetsuya Yanagisawa, and producer Takao Yoshioka were brainstorming how to best cover content going forward in High School DxD's adaptations, due to an imbalance in volumes, particularly in the current arc that's happening in the anime. For reference, season 1 covered volumes 1 and 2, season 2 covered volumes 3 and 4, but things went awry with season 3. The current arc that's being covered ends with volume 12, but volume 8 is a collection of side stories, so that means there is an odd number of volumes in the arc, 11 of them. Volumes 9-12 are often considered one of the peaks of the series, so the three of them knew that they had to cut a corner at some point, and that it would have to be volumes 5-7. These were the three volumes that were supposed to be covered in season 3. Tetsuya Yanagisawa is the director and in the contracts held by various people in the anime, that makes him the one with the highest power, second to only Kadokawa. He believed himself to be the one who made the series popular thanks to his adaptation, namely, the first two seasons. What follows is most likely obvious: he decided to write BorN's script, and told Ichiei Ishibumi to storyboard it. Obviously, Ishibumi and Yoshioka attempted to protest this since it bastardized some of the canon and also cut out very important scenes that the series needs to continue beyond a potential season 5. Ultimately, TNK and the staff became split, with one side being Ishibumi, Yoshioka, and sound director Jin Aketagawa. The other side was Yanagisawa, and essentially the rest of the staff, not including the voice actors, of course. In the end, BorN happened just as Yanagisawa wished, although it was met with lots of criticism. MAL and other English-speaking sites aside, the Japanese fans were pretty upset too, with even the anime-only viewers noticing that the season was quite bad. It extended beyond just the writing, as the art and animation took a massive nosedive in quality too. Season 1 was noted to be quite well produced for a battle harem adaptation, and season 2 mostly held up, but season 3 fell to filler tier animation regularly, and Japanese fans also began to complain about the art style not looking similar to the LN illustrations at all, anime-original designs looking awful, and the art style looking too old for a modern series. Author Ichiei Ishibumi ended up salvaging it by bundling a novel titled High School DxD EX with the BDs of BorN, which used the plot of the LNs to retcon the season as something from an altered timeline. It also helped boost the sales of the BDs, as many Japanese fans only originally bought them to see volumes 9-12 adapted someday. Once the season ended, Ishibumi ended up getting Kadokawa involved, and the rest is history. If it wasn't evident, the new season took so long because they fired almost the entire staff and had to find a new studio for DxD. Passione was first rumored to be the new studio over a year ago now on the Japanese board 2ch, which means Hero has been in production for over a year now. The art style was also overhauled to match the expectations of fans who had begun complaining near the end of season 2, and also to accommodate for better animation. You may have heard so, but the truth is that the series starts to have rather over the top action sequences starting with volume 9, so in the first place, TNK would've never had a chance to pull those volumes off, even with the effort behind season 1. Those are the two main reasons why the art looks more like the LN's illustrations, and why the animation looks more fluid now. The art style of an anime does in fact influence how it looks in motion, which is another reason why the characters look more soft and fluid, as opposed to like a walking key visual from before.

Besides the reason why DxD became so popular in the first place was because it was a decent ecchi harem battle series that actually had a good plot, and I'm not referring to the boobs although they pretty good as well. Thus getting the series back in line with the light novels is far more important than any change in art style that occurs as a result. Personally Passione is doing a great job so far seeing as the animation is superior to anything that TNK achieved, which is good because there are a few hype battles coming while also remaining faithful to the source material. But honestly, rather than complain about changes in art styles, people should be complaining about TNK, because they forced the change in studio by screwing up the original story. Also seeing as there were an odd number of volumes (5-7), they just should've increased the number of episodes for BorN from 12 to at least 18. That way they could've done the usual ~6 episodes per volume, instead of trying to condense 3 volumes into 9 episodes of anime and then generate 3 episodes of anime original content. The whole anime original ending is the worst part about BorN because there was plenty of source material for it...

BOB IGOR RUINED STAR WARS NOT JUST KATHLEEN It's Passione's first time with this artstyle and these designs. If all goes well, the next season will see an increase in animation quality and we'll be back in business. My only gripe about the new season is that the colors are a little too bright for the dxd universe and the character facial proportions all look a bit off. Once the artists and animators adjust to this series and sync up, everything will be fine.

I feel that both seasons have their positives and negatives in terms of artwork However I believe the scene Issei unleashed Dreg's aura rightfully displays just how pissed off he was he physically looked like gob dang demon wearing Issei's clothes.. at that point you can tell he was ready to give up his "humanity" for revenge.. even his full on transformation sequence looked painful..like the muscles were being ripped apart..

Honestly, it's one of the best Anime series I've ever watched and loved. It was quite disappointing to see the changes made in the season 4. I really appreciate the art work made by those artists. It takes lot of hardwork and passion to achieve such a feat. The characters itself looks so different. It's hard to see them as I saw them before. For example, Asia looked so innocent and her expressions were natural while Xenovia was seen as brave fighter. And even Kiba was said to be the most handsome guy around but unfortunately he didn't look the same. I know it's not about the looks alone but the characters itself seem to be weak and in the most part they lacked some originality in their personality and style itself. It's just my opinion. Hope the next season well come back with the previous art style.

@@phanonseries3001 The 4th is THE Original Artstyle of the Light Novel.The original source material from which DxD is adapted.The studio did a perfect job in portraying the art style of the LN, which i feel is cleaner and better than the first 3 seasons.No offense,But other than Vali and a few ither characters,I find the art style and character designs absolutely horrendous.Almost evry female character has unrealistic proportions.Boobs aside the main problems was their waist sizes which were corrected in s4 but ugly to look at in the first 3 seasons aong with the oversized thighs.I know DxD is an ecchi,But it has a really good Lore and world building but the cheap Hentai artstyle in the first 3 seasons kind of ruined it for me(especially female designs).

Side by side comparison like this makes realize how stiff Born's animation compared to Hero's potrayal. Unlike Hero which takes multiple angle and movement in the action scene, Born opted to use a still image with minimal movement. So, in animation department Hero is a clear winner in my opinion. But of course the art style is a subjective matters, I personally still missed the old one. But it can't be helped. Aside from the change in story line which is a sin on Born's side, even with the lack of better animation Born managed to get the emotion, tension, malice, and animosity of Juggernaut Drive better.

As far as drawing style goes I prefer 3rd season, but accuracy I have to give credits to 4th. I really hate the song that was cut out. Hated even when I read light novel. Ok I've seen a lot people complaining left and right so let me TRY to be the middle man and see if we can get to an agreement ok. Its gonna be long and I would like for you guys to be able to read all the way through, and for a certain Bugs Bunny in the comments I hope you can hear me out. First: Lets clear something up by the definition of some words or phrases. Animation is a collection of pictures in a successive matter to create the illusion of movement. Art style is how a picture looks, in this case how a character(s), environment or object is drawn. Yes the art style for those of the anime only group is odd, it is brighter and more colorful than previous seasons, hence making you guys feel that something is wrong about it for it is a drastic change; the argument of being closer to the light novel is both true and false since the art style in the light novels has also gone through changes seeing that in a sense it was also dark but at some point within the volumes of the light novels it turned to a smoother look at times, hell just try to compare the art of the first volume to that of the most recent one even if its just the covers, Hero is using the art style of the latest volumes. Now which do I prefer? I also started DxD in the form of the anime, and quite frankly will miss the old ART STYLE, but I am willing to give this art a chance and see if it grows on me, so I will stay away from that decision until the end Hero. Second: The animation. Now when it came to animation for this show it could sometimes be a hit or miss. The first season was animated fairly well (mostly remembering the second half with the Riser Phoenix rating game, and Issei vs Riser, as well as some comedic scenes), the second season was a bit lower but still enjoyable to us viewers, but in BorN (season 3) it kind of dropped the ball there. Not only were there a lot of stills but there was a lot of things laughable about it, like how Tannin animation of flying was, or even how everyone was battling the Chaos Brigade in some scenes (case in point one with the valkyrie Rossweisse killing a group of devils on her own). The animation for Hero in this episode feels fluid but at the same time rushed, at least for this episode in particular. While I do think that some key moments are better in Hero, BorN had the emotional impact and weight of some moments, for example: in BorN after cutting Shalbas second arm Issei in JD releases a crazy amount of aura, dying the whole scenery in red and when he goes for the last hit you see the same aura being accumulated all into the gem into his chest while boosting all the way until it finally stops and releases this big giant beam all in one go; Hero on the other hand doesn't seem to be carrying the same weight or impact, but it does have a somewhat better fight between the Juggernaut Drive and Shalba, having Shalba struggle to fight while he can and the JD just overpowering him in every way (the divide seen I do like here better than in BorN) yet it feels like it was dragging a bit with the JD crawling and looking for Shalba and instead we see everyone regrouping. However small details on the chant I do like better in Hero than in BorN for instance you see the destructive nature of just activating the JD being able to see the destruction of the temple instead of just cutting away to just a still image and only the celling being blown away and cut to a later moment where the destruction already happened; also the fact that they were operated during this explosion and having to use their defensive magic just to be able to walk around the destroyed area; not to mention that in this chant you can hear all the voices culminating for the last phrase and I love this small detail. But as far as the transformation goes I have to give it to TNK since they had the advantage of building this up ever since episode 8 of BorN, the emotion and impact of that first half of the episode was in my opinion incredible and I can never forget the first time I saw this and going crazy over it. Passione isn't bad mind you but this episode seem to try to get itself done as fast as they could since 1. it was already been done and 2. its purpose was to recap and put the series back to the light novel story. Also TNK Juggernaut Drive felt more of a curse, going for a slow yet powerful moment that when it is revealed the viewer is in aw, Hero seems to be having more emphasis on the fight and the animation rather than how to impact the viewer, and seeing that this is just a recap they had to get to the point of this episode fast and just already start with the next episode. Final thoughts: This is a new studio trying to do something different from what TNK did in the past so I can't say that it is ruined until I see it to the last episode. What I can do for now is give my opinion in the Juggernaut Drive alone, and I will say that TNK has the better JD moment as a whole despite its limit with the animation, and while Pasiones JD looks better and has some details that I did enjoyed the weight of it all was not the same as in TNK. If there was mixture between the two of them I think that it would be the best for me as I did enjoyed both of them. And if you managed to get through all that please bring your thoughts, critic me if you must, and tell me if you agree with me or not.

CorvusX well the purpose of both of them are different. BorN was to create and build a moment that can be categorized in somewhat a horror way, while Hero episode 00 is more to correct things that happened in the second half. Plus due to the short time they had for one episode they can’t build it up as good as BorN did. While I agree that BorN has more of an emotional vibe to it (and I will miss the first half), Hero gets to the point fast. I like the small details in Hero as well as to show how destructive the JD can be by only chanting the damn song, but I do like how BorNs presentation was more horror like. I like the fight with Shaba in Hero, but just adore how the Longinus Smasher is presented in BorN. If there was a way to put these two together I think I would prefer that one.

It took me about 9 or 10 days to watch all 4 seasons due to work and other things but I finished it on a saturday and by the sunday night i was already at episode 4 of season 4. I spent all of saturday night rewatching season 1 and all of sunday watching season 2 and 3 and part of season 4. I finished season 4 last night and already started a third watch through. Something about the show just resonates with me and it sucked when I finished so I had to rewatch it. The change in art style definitely definitely hurts, Rias looked so bad ass, asia looked like a normal girl now they both look silly and stupid but the story of season 4 is great. i think they did not have enogh people in visual effect department that is the reason why most of the shadows are missing and rias looks ugly in s4. All the characters now have a curvy face on one side now. In previous seasons the lighting effects were cool which gave royal feel to the crimson hair of rias in their club room.

I hate the first studio not because they messed up the last 3 episodes, but that they were being such dicks to the author saying that they’re the reason the show is where it is now. only becuase of art style? why people onlyknow how to complain things in life. I read the entire LN and i can tell you that it was impossible to create a fourth season with the shit they created. They even missed out information about the Dragon Kings and an entire important arc was missing between season 2 and 3. On top of that everything that happend afterwards was an entire freestyle chaos of the studio. There was nothing that they could go with in season 4 because the whole anime was entirely different. Dont get me wrong i am not a fan of the new art style myself. But there is so much coming up storywise that i dont give a shit about it anymore. Also they rushed this episode on purpose^^ It was just an episode 0 , so people can know what actually happend. Pls dont blame the new studio if you want to blame someone than the old one, they fucked it up (regardless of the top artstyle they had) btw sry that i had to write so much, but i am a fan to the core, reading the stuff for a lot of years and seeing this also hit me emotionaly, but just dont see a reason to blame anyone ( its a bad mentality anyway). I watched the entire series, and once I started watching HERO I was confused due to the change in art style but after knowing that studios were changed for good reason, I've grown to liking the new style, especially the animations such as the one at 0:26. Passione really did put a ton of effort. I truly can't wait for season 5 (which should come out later this year!)

Season 3 was better. I love the art of course. But also I like the way that Issei is saved from his juggernaut drive In Season 3 He is saved by hearing Rias' voice and remembering all that had happened between them. Evantually Rias' tears broke him out of his curse. In Season 4 He does the weird shit again and is saved by poking her breasts... Season 3's version was stronger and more emptathetic and it nearly had me crying Season 4's version made me cringe so bad that I disregard the remake of that part

Season 3 was a disaster concerning the light novel adaptation. They skipped one volume, mixed the chapters, changed events. Before the s03e09, the adaptation was meh but after the juggernaut drive it went nowhere by making an anime original ending. Studio Passione tried their best to fix the bad adaptation with an episode 0 (remake of the s03e09) which is the TRUE light novel adaptation, and introduced the Oppai Dragon (Chant); it is very important in the future. And they made flashbacks to fill the gap between the two seasons, but things are still missing, at least they showed the most important things.

There's also the fact that it already went on its own continuity, creating filler that never happened in the LN. It's softer yes, because that's how they should actually look like. As someone who reads the LN, I'd take this than the old ones.

Brian janssens maybe, but the models and designs for each characters goo off model a lot of times and was far more inconsistent compared to Born. Animation might've been a bit better for season 4 for the fights, but fans didn't care about the fights in the first place. They made dumb aesthetic choices and they paid for it
