oh just what i needed! I'm planning a trip through Europe this fall (coming over from Australia) and I've wanted to spend some time in Switzerland. I'd prefer not to go into multiple countries because who knows what will happen with these covid restrictions. It seems like in Switzerland you can *almost* get a taste of a few countries all while inside Swiss borders!

Great place to while away themhours. Maggiore, Como and Lugano are all bellissimo! I think Lugano is the best town to live in, but many great side trips. Tne warmth is nice also, as it seems early April to late October are ideal,

yes! Switzerland is really unique in that way - there are 4 national languages (German, French, Italian, & Romansh) all spoken in different regions!

Ticino is such a wonderful region. I would love to explore it more, but we're always deterred by the long queues in front of the Gotthard tunnel and the packed trains. No one of you jumped the bungee? I'm disappointed. I was sure Alexis would do it, LOL: 😂🤣 Great tour & ideas what to see and do Alexis & Louis!

This such a tease, as the borders are still closed between the USA and Europe (sigh.) Good to see that the tourists from around the areas are making a comeback. What language(s) are we communicating in with the locals, in this part of Switzerland and northern Italy?
@TheTravelingSwiss3 жыл бұрын
We can say some basic Italian phrases (ordering food in restaurants, etc) which helps, but otherwise we can usually use English if needed. If you’re on the Swiss side of the border in the Italian region they usually speak German quite well also!
@TheTravelingSwiss3 жыл бұрын
Also! Borders have opened for a few European countries between the US already - Spain, Italy, Greece, Iceland, Croatia so far are all open for US tourism :)
@philipohmes93953 жыл бұрын
@@TheTravelingSwiss Good to know for those people wanting to visit...learn some phrases of the areas you plan on going to. So is that Standard German or some Swiss German variant that is spoken? I am listening to YT Aditoro pronouncing every single town in Germany using Standard German rather than his usual Swiss German speech. I don't know if I will listen to all 4 hours and 6 minutes of the dialogue. Quite the effort on his part !
@philipohmes93953 жыл бұрын
@@TheTravelingSwiss That is good to know. I listen to the Tagesshau Program on YT in German to give me the latest updates on what is occurring in Germany. There still seems to be quite a bit of confusion as to the roll out of their COVID vaccine program for the people n that country. The Robert Koch Institute website is the official site for what the latest news is for entries and travel restrictions into Germany. www.rki.de/EN/Home/homepage_node.html updated frequently. The latest news is published both in German and English. The Frankfurt am Main Airport is my hub airport for entering Europe from North America. I am looking forward soon to be returning to Basel soon.

Do all the Lake Como ferries take cars? Do you really need a car, as these towns are pretty compact? Oh, how I want to stay on Como! Thanks for the views in Ticino!
@TheTravelingSwiss3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, No, only a few ferries take cars, between Bellagio, Varenna and Menaggio. We only needed a car to get to Lago Como from Ticino, but once you are there, a car is more annoying than anything else. The towns are compact and mostly pedestrian. So if you have the possibility to get there by train (to Como for example), then you'll enjoy it much more.
@jdhjimbo3 жыл бұрын
@@TheTravelingSwiss Thanks, that is what I thought. Drive to whatever town on the Lake will be your bases, and then just use ferries and feet for the exploring. I love places that downplay cars, anyway. Perhaps a motor scooter could be handy in some places.

Hey, I planned on visiting Switzerland in February. What is it like visiting Switzerland especially now. Covid-19 protocol and things to consider?
@TheTravelingSwiss3 жыл бұрын
hi! thanks for the comment! restrictions are always changing but for now Switzerland is quite open! You have to wear masks indoors and on public transit, but everything is open. To enter CH, you need to have a negative PCR test or proof of vaccination with an EMEA approved vaccine
