Great reaction. It's a testament to Lin-Manuel's filmmaking that you got the message about making art in spite of all the barriers so clearly for someone who didn't know who Jon was and his legacy. And you should totally react to Rent. It's a wonderful groundbreaking show.

Jent you have to watch the credits, there's clips of the real Jonathan! Yep, Tick Tick...Boom! was John's one-man show. After he died Lin Manuel actually played the role of John in a 3-person off-broadway production. This film is a mix of Tick Tick...Boom, but also including two songs from Superbia and more details of John's life/death Also fun fact, the number at the piano in central park was not pre-recorded, Andrew sang it live, and they used the second take. Also, the character of Michael is based on John's best friend Matt O'Grady, who is still alive and well today. Jonathan had undiagnosed Marfan's syndrome, which weakens the heart muscles. On some subconscious level, he knew he was going to die, which was probably why he heard the ticking. I'm sure you know Andrew was nominated for an Oscar, and should have won.

Great insight! Thank you very much! :)

I assume you had to turn down/off the sound of the movie to avoid copyright and I did want to watch this reaction but I... can't bring myself to do so without any accompanying sounds at all of the film. I think it might have worked better to use stills and still have some audio? IDK. Thought you'd like some feedback, hope it doesn't feel harsh.

I understand, but I did have to re-upload this video about 4 times hahah. The music was the MAIN problem, KZbin picked up on the music super quickly. The sound was the major thing I had to dampen.

Jonathan Larson wrote the music in Tick, tick… Boom! Lin did a great job directing especially for a first film. Lin-Manuel Miranda was the best person to direct this musical. He was inspired by Jonathan Larson. Lin has talked about Rent and Tick, tick… Boom! The person who wrote the screenplay, Steven Levenson and Lin went to the Library of Congress to review Jonathan’s papers and music. As you can see, they used Superbia and Tick, tick… Boom! music in this movie. There are videos of the real Jonathan Larson in the credits. Wish Andrew Garfield had won the Oscar for this role. He WAS Jonathan Larson. This video will show you the theater references and personalities in this movie. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3Pbd2VqqJmKqKM Love this movie. Worth multiple rewatches.

Interesting choice to make the audio not synced instead of just muted. It confused me at first lol It's almost more distacting than if it was muted

I think it’s funny you said Lin Manuel wouldn’t direct a movie he didn’t write the songs for, and that’s exactly what this was lol

Hahah, yes. In hindsight what I meant was he wouldn't direct and ORIGINAL musical that he didn't write the songs for, because why not just have him do it. But it makes perfect sense that he would do this musical with the songs already written, hahahah.

You should definitely seek out some of the other videos about this production. Rent inspired Lin - there'd be no Hamilton without Rent. That comes straight from Lin-Manuel's mouth. Everyone in the Sunday scene was a major Broadway actor. With almost all of the press they did, I'd say 99% of the time at least one of the actors would start crying! There is a proper video here of the final performance of Rent - you should continue reacting to it. Here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5mqZH2KmM1-eqM I could write so much more here, but I don't want to bore you to tears... But search out some of the press vids here on YT - I think you'll really relate and enjoy them. Consider me subscribed!

If you like discussions and depth in your films Why don't you go through Charlie Kaufmans library Being John Malkovich Adaptation (fantastic) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Synecdoche New York (I consider one the best films ever made) Anomalisa I'm thinking of ending things (on netflix internationally)

You noticed a few of the cameos in the movie, but here is a link to a KZbin video from Howard Ho which details cameos, Easter eggs, and interesting details from Tick, Tick, .... BOOM! I think it will enhance what you saw and provide some context into how much thought Lin_Manuel Miranda put into how he wanted to tell this story about an individual who made such an impact on Lin's life. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3Pbd2VqqJmKqKM

You should react to In The Heights, those songs are written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
