Favorite vehicle ever (for bad weather): 1993 XJ Cherokee with 4.0L engine and no book value. Loved driving a super capable POS in the snow. Used it to take nurses to the hospital and nursing homes during snow emergencies. Threw chains on when the snow was deep. Pulled other 4WDs out of snow banks and ditches. What a blast! Vic May or may not have approved!

I know someone like this and they don't even drive a suv. They drive a car last snow storm we had he was driving like it was sunny while screaming at the cars cause they were driving cautious. Vic you are great at telling people true statements they don't want to hear! I recently subscribed to your You Tube channel and caught this 6 mo. Old gem about 4WD and winter weather. I own a 4WD mid size SUV that's 23yrs old. I read the owners manual when I acquired said vehicle. It clearly states, "Do not exceed 45mph while engaged in 4wd high gear or possible transmission/engine damage may occur!" Apparently there are people among us that don't bother reading their manuals, and drive normally in 4wd! I drive very conservatively in Winter conditions. I shit you not Vic, I have been cursed out and received many "middle fingers" from other 4wd drivers for not driving fast enough in Winter weather! These stupid people with absolutely no "Common Sense" during bad conditions, is what really "Ticks Me Off!" Please keep doing what you do best Vic! If you awaken a few idiots, hopefully they will decide to join humanity once again!

Used to live on a steep street ... every snow we would put our chairs out front and watch the demolition derby.. it was awesome. People with 2 wheel would hit the ice and loose control. They would come over the hill and hit the ice and they would smash into each other. But the best part was when the 4 wheel drives came over and showed off how they could drive on it with no problem.. they would even speed up.. omg they would hit the ice and it was great literally cars and trucks smashing into each other everywhere. They would go up into the yards. On the people's porches smash into each other. Sometimes there would be 50 cars smashed right on our street. Most of them where 4 wheel drivers. Way too much fun

FYI, when you put your SUV/4x4 into 4WD high it disengages when you hit 45MPH and if you're in 4WD low it disengages when you hit 25MPH. So when you're driving down the hwy at 60MPH you're not in 4WD. read you're manual.

4WD will not stop you from sliding in the rain and, especially not on the ice. I was stopped at a red light on a rainy night, when a 4WD truck came screaming up behind me and settled at the red light in the lane next to me. As the other light turned yellow, he started spinning his wheels in place and began fishtailing. I decided to stay put when the light turned, and it was a good thing I did. This guy took off and started hydroplaning and then overcorrected, first swerving to the right across three lanes of traffic, and then back to the left before coming to rest in the shoulder at the tree line. Had I proceeded as normal instead of waiting for this idiot, he would have nailed me broadside, probably killing my car and causing injuries to me and my family.

I lived in a rural area 10 years. When it snowed it was always the 4 wheelers stuffed into the snow bank heading down hill. 9.8m/s_2_ is the acceleration of gravity and F=MA... not good to have a heavy vehicle going down hill without traction.

Sorry Vic but I have a separate set of wheels and winter tires and swap them out every year on my Subaru Impreza WRX. I never lose grip and traction on the road, I know the cars limits, I don't goof when ice is around, and I have many hours of driving in snow under my belt. So yes, BEEP BEEP move out of my way!

I have always had a 4x4.. pickups and SUVs . What is stated here is true. All vehicles are 4 wheel braking. That being said 4wd or awd will accelerate better in snow but 2wd 4wd and awd all stop and turn the same in snow. Tires do make improvements but as not to simulate a clear dry road in the snow. I had to get a big truck to tow with, and I hate driving it in snow. Hate. It. I leave it in 2WD as much as possible and toss weight in the bed to try to avoid putting it in 4. 4WD at higher speeds kills your efficiency and makes the vehicle less maneuverable. 4WD is for traction, like Vic said. To get out of sticky situations. It's not a substitute for good driving.
