When you lock or block an opponent, it has to be part of your route that you are forming. You cannot just put down two trains to block someone and then never tie into it. Am I understanding you correctly?

You can place your trains anywhere on the map. You do not have to tie the trains into one of your routes. I see many players block key locations early in the game to negatively impact other players.
