I think I saw on another video that while the LCD screen you can press the bottom button and it'll show your heart rate as well. I just returned my Fitbit Ionic and possibly looking into this, but I like to monitor my heart rate all the time and sleep.

The ZTE Quartz was a great watch as well. I used it for a couple of months before switching to a purely fitness focused watch. I am loving the Ticwatch Pro so far though. The dual screens was a great way to add battery life.

Yes, in hybrid mode it turns on the Oled display when you receive a notification. The only time it won't do that is if you turn on the "Essential Mode," which basically shuts off everything except the LCD display and the step counter.

I should also mention that it does vibrate as well (in hybrid mode). Hybrid mode is the default, and basically just uses the LCD to conserve battery instead of always keeping the Oled display on. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more companies using this option.

Thanks for the review Donovon. I love the effort from Mobvoi. The dual screens are what all smartwatches should offer. I think this will be amazing if two things happen: 1)Mobvoi equips it with the upcoming Android chip instead of using the dated one on this. 2) Allow it to run certain fitness applications with the LCD screen, like Google Fit. Then you can actually see the screen when you are working out outdoors.

John, you are dead on. Being able to customize the functions on the LCD would be an awesome touch. I think this will definitely be present on watches in the near future. Also, a faster chip from Qualcomm could benefit every Android Wear device.

You can have the always on setting enabled and then assign essential mode to that hardware button, but you won't be able to switch back to AOD unless you reboot the watch (at least not that I've seen yet). Would be a pain in regards to switching back and forth multiple times a day.

Question: when you're using essential mode as your always on screen, does the watch still buzz or wake when you get a notification? Or do all notifications flood in when you activate the oled mode by touching the screen? I haven't seen this answered anywhere

No, you do not get notifications because it shuts off the connection to your phone. I haven't noticed a flood of notifications when I turn it back on though. Note: You will still get notifications when the LCD screen is on, but it's not in Essential Mode.

Does anyone know - in "essential mode", can you use Google Fit for step tracking and HR monitoring? On my Ticwatch E - I have their (Mobvoi) fitness software disabled and use Google Fit exclusively.

The step counter will still function completely as normal under Essential Mode, but I haven't found a way to keep the heart rate monitor going under Essential Mode.

Will definitely be doing this at some point in the next couple weeks. The question you really need to answer for yourself is what is more important to you, the fitness tracking or the smartwatch features. The Amazfit Stratos is definitely a better overall fitness watch, but the Ticwatch Pro has it all, lots of music options, NFC for mobile payments, and of course the fitness tracking.

Great review. I've been looking forward to information on this watch. Mobvoi/Ticwatch has done a great job with the design and dual display. Like you brought up in the Vivoactive 3 Music video i wonder how the Bluetooth connection is? Is this a watch you can wear on either wrist and still have a strong connection to your earbuds? Yeah,the Bluetooth connection is way better. I've not had any issues with any of the earbuds I've used with it so far (I've tested 3 different pairs, expensive and cheap ones).

The battery indicator in essential mode shows 5 dots for fully charged but seems to go down one dot per day and then just one dot all the time, is this correct. Only had my watch one week and giving it a test run in essential, but normally I will have it on during the day and then change to essential for night sleep wear.

Yes, and that’s exactly how I use it as well. I turn it on to Essential Mode when I sleep to avoid a bunch of battery drain over night.

My honest opinion is this watch is genius as far as the dual display mode. So we can now see the watch outside in the sun and the battery is extended for days. Now with NFC ability and I can pull out my wallet less and the build quality now makes this watch a direct competitor to the Samsung Gear S3. I love this. I'm know secret-agent and for the money, this is a fair trade-off. Don't expect an awesome smartwatch for less than $100.00. It doesn't exist. The only fitness feature I care about is the step monitor. Keeps me from being a lounge lizard.

I just bought Stratos a week ago but was thinking into buying TicWatch Pro when it comes out. Didn't know it was gonna be so soon. What I want is a good battery life, always on display and waterproofing. IP68 is still kinda good but if battery life and always on display work well then it trumps waterproofing for me but lets see how this holds up to expectations. I see some reviews of not holding battery very well. Thanks for review though.

Like I say in the video, the battery life is very dependant on how you use it. With my usage, I keep Essential Mode on when I'm not working out, I can easily get 4 days of battery life.

It still throws me a little off being used to owning Pebble. But 4 days is fine only I wish Essential Mode was more usable. If I could trade like a week or two of battery like that then it's a different story. Or 4 days without it. I don't why I thought Essential Mode could be more expandable like at least reading a notification or something smart-like. I need to see if Stratos will serve me well. So far it does. :)

That is true. I wouldn't recommend submerging it underwater though because it will affect the speaker and microphone until it totally dries out. I've used it in the shower and sweat all over it, but I take it off for swimming (which is what Mobvoi suggests).

Still doesn't replace my Pebble Steel. I paid $80 for it, lasts 4 sometimes 5 days, and it's fully waterproof. Plus, with the hardware buttons, I never even have to look at it to dismiss a call, Snooze my alarm, dismiss all notifications. Yeah, the ticwatch does look nicer, but if I can't swim with a watch I really can't use it.

This is incorrect. You can use it without your phone. That's why your bank has to get contacted with the email/text notification for verification - it has its own account number created. This is by definition how Apple Pay, Garmin Pay, Fitbit Pay, and Google Pay work. I know this because I have owned all four (Apple Watch3, Vivoactive3, Versa, and Ticwatch Pro) and used them without my phone.

Tough call. Might be worth waiting for the 3100 watches if you have a decent watch now. If you want a watch now this one is a great option, but the 2100 definitely is noticeably slower than my Samsung Galaxy Watch and my Apple Watch Series 4. The 2100 isn't terrible, but it definitely will be nice to see something new coming to WearOS.

You do have the option of having the display always on, so you can avoid the LCD screen turning on (Essential Mode), but it will drain the battery faster obviously.

RZ Gaming sort of, it will still go into a hibernate mode that shows the time, but the LCD display won't turn on, and a partial AMOLED watch face will still show. It should be able to make it through a full day, but I honestly never used it that way exclusively.
