Thanks for doing these videos. I have watched the entire TD-H3 series, since I have just purchased this radio. They have been very helpful for someone new to GMRS.

Just to repeat many of the comments said before, thank you very much for making this wonderful series. Instructions are clear, practical, and the logical progression in teaching short concepts that build on the next is such an excellent method of presentation! You have a wonderful channel, all the video are great.

Thanks for doing this. I have mostly used CHIRP to program my new TD-H3 ... But this really made it simple to see how to do it from the radio face and I knew I needed and wanted to know how to do it without the computer nearby. Excellent training video.

Hey Scott, still enjoying all your videos and updates! I was traveling in Houston this week and found the bluetooth ODmaster app invaluable. So easy to drop in local repeaters that were close to me all across the city (75 miles across)! I REALLY wish the TD-H3 had 999 memories so that I wouldn't have to fiddle with uploading repeaters (so I could have multiple cities repeaters already loaded). But as it is, I prefer this HT over my UV-17R because of the app and flexibility of frequencies available. 73, Brett K5WXP

Scott, if I could just clarify channel naming. You are correct that you cannot name the channels when programming from the front panel. However, you can when you program via computer using CHIRP or the TIDRADIO software. Love your operator's series. Thanks.

came down here to say this, have all my repeaters named via CHIRP. Didn't have much luck with odmaster it always screwed up the memory channels when I write to the radio

This is great and thanks for the series you made, very helpful, my only comment would be that I think most people prefer to operate these in non-SYNC mode which makes the interface much simpler to view and understand especially for new users (you are not seeing 2 channels on the screen at once). Would have been nice to see this same tutorial without having to look at both channels on the screen as it's confusing to see what's actually being changed and active.

Did you ever make the follow up video on the basics of general repeater operations? I was looking for it but didn't find anything.

Hi Scott. Hugh in the UK here (MM6HMB) Just watched your TID H3 instruction videos, wonderful! Did you ever do the followup to 15? Repeaters for dummies? Cannot find it. Have a great Xmas!

It would be nice too if Tidradio made the terms it uses for the tones consistent with CHIRP. If you enter a TX CTCSS on CHIRP it calle it TONE but TidRadio will show an OFF in the side box (at least on GMRS) so it looke like there is no TX code (until you key down). Chirp also uses the term TSQL if you have the same CTCSS in RX and TX...but the radio shows CT. If you have something a bit odd where the RX and TX have to be different... CHIRP calls it "Cross" the radio displays CT for that too. Once you understand that these differences equate to the same meanings that is fine but it would be nice if there was some consistency.

I think that when you are programing in a repeater or even simplex... if you enter the CTCSS RX first... then it also puts that same tone in the TX.... but if you leave the RX empty and enter first in the TX it will only make it hte output tone and leave RX open. I don't think it does that because it was the last one you programmed. Maybe I am wrong but after playing with it a bit that seems to be the case.

Scott, Appreciate your series. Please comment; appears that if have downloaded program from TIDRADIO software on computer, that then can not be changed manually with the keypad. That appears to be the case when I have tried unsuccessfully to change offset from "minus to plus" using keypad. Thank you for your input.

One thing that bugs me about this radio is how several frequencies cannot be programmed with keys, chirp, or OEM programming software because " frequency step not supported"... Any ideas?

I have not encountered that. What frequencies are you having trouble with?

they've added 8.88 step via a newer firmware. Running 240625 on mine

can I ask where are you getting the repeater numbers from?
@KS6DAY2 ай бұрын
The best resource for finding amateur radio repeaters is RepeaterBook.com. Another good resource to find repeaters that are likely to have activity is to check the websites for amateur radio clubs in the area. They usually list their repeater details there. For GMRS, it's a bit more challenging because, for some odd reason, they often choose to be cagey and selective with their repeater details. But MyGMRS.com can be helpful to find GMRS repeaters.

@deltaleader71Ай бұрын
What TID doesn't tell you is that if you use GMRS mode, you are only able to transmit on channels 1-54. All other channels are receive only. I suppose you can use normal mode to defeat this. I am not sure. Totally defeats the purpose of having 199 channels to use. If you are HAM, then maybe this radio makes more sense.
