Also, seeing that Than is using algae scrubber and reactors in the old farm, why not using/making a huge refugium in the new building so you can lower from 0.1 to your ideal level of phosphate and be able to sell algae? I believe he said he wants it to be at 0.08. Why not the level we all trying to reach at 0.04. why 0.08?

I have couple of questions and a suggestion: A) Are there poisonous corals? B) Can you evaporate the old water to recover the salt to re-use? C) How long can a coral live in a perfect enviroment Suggestion: People including me we want to have a salt acuarium but we dont know anithing about the equipment and building of a tank. I would suggest making a video showinh how to start teaching how set up a skimer and how to het the water into it and back up (pumps) heaters and so on
@ChrisCho-ev6tz Жыл бұрын
Hi, I can try to answer your questions! Other people are also free to correct me! A) I’m not sure about poisonous corals but some zoanthids and palythoas (not corals but closely related) contain a chemical compound called “palytoxin” that is extremely deadly. As cnidarians, most corals have nematocysts (stinging cells) that make them somewhat venomous (depending on the species). I’ve been stung by a large elegance coral which felt like a bee sting and caused my finger to swell for a couple of hours. B) You can evaporate old water to regenerate the salt crystals but there really isn’t a reason why you should do this. Unless you’re evaporating less than a gallon, it would be difficult to boil 5 or more gallons of water completely. Moreover, it would likely be even harmful to do so. Water changes are performed to remove organics from the tank and to replenish certain water parameters. Evaporating old tank water would just result in salt that has been stripped of essential elements and inundated with organics and is thus not recommended. C) We don’t actually know the answer to this question because the classification of “perfect environment” is largely subjective. However if we’re assuming that a coral receives proper light, flow, nutrition, space to grow, and excellent water chemistry, then they can theoretically live indefinitely. Many corals in the wild are recorded to be over 5,000 years old!
@fragboxcorals Жыл бұрын
A) yes some zoas B) no the salt remains only fresh water evaporates C) in theory for ever . we have videos on every topic you mentioned :D
