@@danders1094 I forget Kolst's exact argument, but it went along the lines that only 6% of decks have it, its not commonly offered, and therefore should not be played around... except that it is extremely powerful in an almost completely board-centric format. It made sense to me just like how they once removed mind-control tech minion, just because it made people stopping playing 4 or more minions on the off chance they could lose the game to 1 card. My point was I would've kept the card in the mulligan, since it can be so strong, and Trump had a decent curve already.

I am absolutely loving these arena runs! Constructed can just be really dull, everyone net decking, battlegrounds is fun but also repetitive Whereas with Arena with these crazy power level fun decks now where you can make crazy plays are just so good to watch and to play. Arena really needed this to spice things up and I don't even get mad when someone steamrolls me with an insane opening combo, I actually find it cool and I'm like "shit maybe ill try draft that combo in future" Arena is the number 1 mode atm in my eyes

Why is the selfless sidekick rated so highly if weapons are so rare? Or rather, why is the pick pool so high? I had a similar experience as trump, got the sidekick early but didn’t get a single weapon.

Probably because people generally don't pick it unless they've got a weapon.

@@NoOne42 But that’s why I specified that it’s picked so often. The circle is basically completely full, meaning that a large percentage of warriors pick it. Maybe it’s because even if they don’t get a weapon, they’re still playing warrior so they get a high winrate even with a 7 mana 6/6 lol

@@Icetea-2000 Yea everyone doesn't have exactly this weapon but i really expect 2 weapons on average for a warrior deck which make sidekick pretty good especially when you consider the tradeable weapon and the sunken weapon. i'd like to add that the winrate of the card is quite high comparatively to others card in warrior so the whole 7 mana 6/6 argument doesn't hold much my opinion.

Partially, some cards are particularly strong in arena which aren't as problematic in standard. Perhaps in past arena also, you didn't get offered as many strong cards as often, so since you do, now you "have" to have the strong cards to do well.

I never understood why Blizzard didn’t implement an arena deck rating (as it’s obviously possible to weight rank cards) and then just have your arena games fall within a range of that arena deck rating as to account for ridiculously lucky arena picked decks and have them play against other ridiculously lucky arena picked decks. This would also negate the reason to ever “balance” arena cards? Just adjust the weighting per card. Arena is kind of dying to these incredibly powerful decks to me. Half of your decks you should just auto-retire before playing a game.

That would be sad. Half the fun *is* the imbalance in the decks and trying to draft a good one. If all the decks you went up against just always had the same handful of similar-power cards you have that'd make the experience very samey. Now of course, there's something to be said about the frequency of ridiculous cards in this particular format. But if you compare it against the completely combo-less format that was the last season, I'm not sure that was better either. There's a balance to be struck, and I think the frequency of arena format shifts combats a lot of the problem of power imbalance - low-power and high-power formats are different, and experiencing both from time to time is fun. If you've had your fill with the current season after 4 games, just come back in a month or two. If not, well, enjoy the 4-in-a-row Ysera potential while it's there.

@@TheTLATER I agree from a theoretical standpoint on your argument, but perhaps we change the implementation. If you look at drafting in many other card games, the power of decks is drastically different, but the count of possible rarities on all decks is the same. Like it or not, many legendaries are strictly better than many commons in hearthstone. Let’s instead of using weighted values to each individual card, let’s call commons 1, rares 2, epics 3 and legendaries 4. Now add all those numbers up and only have decks that fall within a range of +10 and -10 to that decks card rarity group. You would still get the same swinginess of strength in deck v deck matchups, but pull rarity categories would be similar. I like the concept of “David v Goliath” as much as anyone, but we need some kind of balancing mechanism so your mostly common pool of cards doesn’t consistently go against a guy with ysera, Finley, and faelin.
