I am a big fan of black backgrounds. Blue backgrounds used to be very popular several years ago. The nice thing about backgrounds is they hide a lot of the wires that may be hanging in the back and also set a nice contrast to the fish and coral in your tank.
@AdvancedReefing11 жыл бұрын
I agree totally. I usually only run the filter socks for a short period after doing maintenance in an attempt to catch any free floating detritus.

Hey I just wanted to say hello from a fresh water guy. I have a 265 fully planted tank with 3 canister filters backing up my sump, I love what some of the reef people do with their tanks to get inspiration from. And as for stocking it, well it's a community tank that is in the 500 fish range but they are all small breeds and quite compatible. Ed

Tank looks awesome, can't wait to see an update
@Fragtank11 жыл бұрын
beautiful tank and system, i only can find one flaw, its that the refugium flows into the filter socks and skimmer chamber... which will remove a large portion, if not all, of the beneficial copepods and other micro organisms that thrive in a refugium.

That tank is extremely thought through and well done and very expensive no Doubt

Great videos, keep up the good work. This is going to be an awsome tank. What detail. Put as many fish as it can handle. Love coral but fish are great!

Definitely h.264. Best compression to quality ratio currently. The thing to play with is your GOP (group of pictures) and key frame.

I hate seeing tanks like this , it makes me want to tear down my tank and do it again like this one! AAAARRGGH ! .As for fish numbers I would only have fish to compliment the reef like a tang or two for algea control ,a few blennys , a few clowns (everyone loves clowns)and maybe one or two WOW fish like an emperor angle (not too reef safe I know) but spectacular to look at. Keep the videos coming guys ,wicked tank already and theres nothing it !
@ethanrussell316311 жыл бұрын
I like to keep fish numbers low, but he has some room. Just the look of having an appropriate amount of fish which doesn't fall too far from fish concentrations in the wild is what I'd aim for. So he definitely has room for fish, I just wouldn't go full ham :)

We sell them on Advanced Reef's site. You can find a link in the description. I think they are a shade under $30.

I looked but didn't see. Was it mentioned what time of dry rock was used in this tank? Thank you for sharing. It amazing. Wish could know more about what not having sand at the bottom effects the system, positively and negatively. That would make another good video.
@mrpmj0011 жыл бұрын
You can have up to 30 because I have a 100 gallons fowlr and I have 15 fish which includes a 3yr old 6 inch emperor and a 3 inch queen and a 4 inch blue tang and a 3 inch yellow tang. I haven't changed my water in 10 months nor clean my canisters. My nitrate is 5-10 and I use tap water with nitrate=10 to start with. Tomorrow, my 240 gallons acrylic tank is delivered 8x2x2. I'm using existing 2 hangon refugiums, a hangon skimmer, and 2 canisters with current 15 fish. We'll see if it works.

Yes, he is going bare bottom. In his last tank he had a substrate and he didn't like it.

No plans for a sand bed. I personally like sand beds, but in a tank with super high flow, it can be a nightmare sandstorm.

Hey Than, do you have any updates on Pauls 240-gallon tank build? Its a great tank.
@snakeminder1311 жыл бұрын
In my opinion you could probably get away with 2-4medium/big fish like angels, triggers and perhaps even a lion fish.Personally I'm more about the small-medium sized fish such as a must of 2 clowns(you just gotta love em

I would put all the fish the system can handle. The filtration should easily be enough for a substantial bioload.

question please, if you have a refugium breeding ground intended to supply micro invertebrates back to the system as you mentioned wouldn't filter socks not allow them to return.

7-10 anthias, 3 tangs, a pair of clowns, some gobys, my favorite fish which is a blue throat trigger and if i had this size i would go with a pair, mabye a foxface, a blenny, mabye a 3 school of fairy wrasse and finally a pair of mandarins. Im a big fish person as well but if ypu can keep up with the bioload and make sure the fishes are compatible and dont bother each other you should be good.

Filtering post refugium makes no sense to me... It seems like you'd be skimming/filtering out all the microfauna you're trying to grow in the refugium in the first place, and that none of it would make it back to the display tank.
