Former college hooper from University of Arizona here. I was a walkon and Played there from 2005-09. My first 2 years I played for Lute Olson We played UNC twice - once in 2006 at chapel hill and once in Tucson in 2007 and got destroyed both times. Tyler Hansbrough, Danny green, Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington and co. We’re unreal. But my fondest memory of those 2 games were the respect that Roy Williams and coach Olson had for each other. Roy Williams is by far one of the classiest coaches in college bball history. Been watching the podcast for a while now. Keep up the great work guys 👏🏽👌🏽🏀 #RunYourRace

Awesome..Tarheels my favorite but respected Arizona since 94 watch them for the first time when Damon Stoudimire and Khalil Reeves against that stacked Kentucky team which thought they would run away with the game eventually but Arizona gave them 40 minutes of hell lost by a buzzer beater tip in damn I love college hoops
@DavidBaggaShortsАй бұрын
@ nice! Yeah Damon used to come back and play pickup with us in Tucson in the summers during his last 2-3 years in the nba. The guy is maybe 5’10 and does some of the most unreal things on the court, at least during that era for his size. 👌🏽🏀
@edwardfisher99303 күн бұрын
@DavidBaggaShorts that's dope.. huge Tarheel fan but I have so much respect for the Arizona wildcats program... one of my favorite non Tarheel hoopers had to be Salim Stoudamire..followed by Micheal Wright
@DavidBaggaShorts3 күн бұрын
@ very cool! And yeah I wasn’t there when Salim played. I came after he left but he was my off season workout partner in the summer when he would come back from the hawks. Great human being all around. And one of the best shooters I’ve ever seen 👌🏽🏀

That ’09 team was special. For nearly a decade Jay Bilas called them the last truly great basketball team. Hans was obviously a beast but people forget that Ty Lawson was a thing to behold as well. People also forget that it wasn’t Hans that got POY that year…it was Lawson. I’d never seen a team score so much in transition off of “made” baskets in my life. Lawson’s speed was incredible.
@cab0424Ай бұрын
I didn’t see Phil Ford, but that ‘08-‘09 Lawson season was the best individual season I have ever seen from a UNC point guard. He was special.
@marquezpace1475Ай бұрын
Even crazier was the 5th best player Danny green drafted later then all the other starters had the best and longest nba career
@gtizzle7606Ай бұрын
If Ty Lawson doesn't come back from that toe injury in 09 they don't win. Remember he was out of action into the ACC tournament and they lost in the second round to Fla St. So there was some trepidation whether he would be ready to go for the NCAA tournament. Ellington was playing out of position at times and wasn't shooting all that well. When Lawson came back he put everyone back in their rightful spots and the rest was history.
@tovorismoore75963 күн бұрын
That team was special they had that switch that they could go to a whole different level and just destroy teams. They definitely were playing for one thing that National Title and nothing else.
@gtizzle76063 күн бұрын
@@Justsomedude64 I gotta correct a couple things. Lawson was not player of the year, Blake Griffin was the Naismith player of year in 2009. Hansbrough was player of year in 2008. Wayne Ellington was the final four most outstanding player in 2009 not Lawson. Those are the facts. With that said, No Lawson no title.

Certain professions keep you young cause u constantly have fresh youth cycles coming thru your care, etc. All the old coaches, unless they were hit with a major illness look good for their age and seem physically more fit. I'm retired Navy, it's same for military cause there are always kids coming thru keeping you young at heart.
