Hey Eric, First I want to say thank you for all the videos. I got licensed about 2 1/2 years ago and I remember seeing some of your videos associated with him radio prep, which is how I prepared for the tech and I upgraded to general about a year ago. I really enjoy the various affordable handhelds and just got my TIDH3 a couple of weeks ago in Green which looks really sharp. Couple of follow-up things to your video: 1) my guess is that the app is asking to enable locations so that it can pull up nearby repeaters 2) I’m with you and have no idea where they are getting the repeater information since it doesn’t seem to be associated with something like RepeaterBook 3) I’m a big 220 fan and was under the impression this radio did 220. Interestingly, you can enter 220 frequencies in there, but it will not allow you to enter an offset or tones, so it kind of limits you to simplex. I think Ham Radio Dude commented on this in one of his videos. I will probably email TID customer service soon as they have been pretty responsive before. 73, Jon

Thank you for saying it! I recently watched some video where some guy gave his top 10 of best HTs. (Not so coincidentally) His number 10 was the cheapest and number one was the most expensive.... OF COURSE the $600 icom ID-52a Is a better radio than the $ 20 baofeng uv5r. But are we going to pretend like it's 30 times the radio??? NO!! Value is a thing! Thank you for your great reviews!!

There is no difference between the GMRS & the HAM versions. It's simply firmware. There's a power up procedure you can do to choose which way you want to use the H3. They are GMRS, HAM & Normal (fully unlocked). I've had the H3 for about a week. Nice little HT.

@NukaVaultReadiness I mean it comes with the appropriate firmware installed for the version you buy. Just know that you aren't locked into a specific version. You can run it how you see fit at any time. There's one catch, though. If you decide to swap modes in the boot up, you will lose data saved on the radio. You'll have to reload any saved frequencies & repeaters you have.

Does the AM option only apply to the VHF Air band? Or can it also receive the UHF Military AIr band as well? It will tune those freqs.

Looks like a good unit. Checks all the boxes. Was this a comp from Tidradio or did you buy this yourself? Did you test for spurious emissions? Any battery issues? Been reports of some units from Amazon having these problems. How's the airband performance?

To communicate with someone that far away you'd need to use a repeater network or satellite with this radio (yes, under the right conditions you can talk to amateur radio satellites with an HT). This wouldn't be the best choice for that purpose however. A better choice for that purpose, assuming you have the license for it, would be an HF radio or a DMR radio. An HF radio will require a good sized antenna setup. A DMR (or DSTAR) radio is a digital mode radio that can talk to a repeater and then over the internet to another repeater that also supports the same mode. If you only have a Technician amateur radio license, a DMR or DSTAR HT would likely be the better choice. Assuming you have a repeater for DMR or DSTAR in your area as well as the person you're communicating with has one near them. Most HTs only have a range of a few miles (same city), not hundreds of miles. Most mobile radios in a vehicle can reach repeaters 30-40 miles away. Depending on your antenna and conditions.

Great. If you have influence with TID please see if you can get them to program a side key to start a scan, and to give it some kind of water proofing, and of course pair with a Bluetooth earpiece. Which I’m hoping my current H3 does if yours came with the remote PTT.

Breath bed is "chinglish" for "LED breathe" or "Status LED"...basically, the two led lights on top of the radio light up in a preset timeframe. I don't understand why anyone would want this feature, but I just set mine to off.

They advertise it as talking and receiving on all of these bands. The antenna's are not tuned for 6m for instance. I don't know if this one will come as that but one of the radios I ordered (similar chinese) came with all band transmitting. They had sent me the EU version, did not advertise a U.S. version. Mine is a Quansheng. Ordered direct from China. They do not transmit on the air band regardless.

Who doesn't want a flashlight on their radio? Me!! It just seems that most cheap radios are the ones that include a flashlight. It just makes it look and feel like cheap junk. If I need a flashlight, I don't typically reach for my handheld radio. If I'm really in a pinch, most cell phones have one anyway. I would just rather they not include that on radios.
