What pen are you using to draw lines? Lines will be removed when we wash shirts?
@MrTieDye2 жыл бұрын
I use Washable markers to draw my lines and they almost always wash out, but just in case... I always tie-dye with my tees inside out, so if there is a mark that does not wash out, it is on the inside of the tee .... but they do wash out really well most times .... I use the Washable Crayola or Car-Z-Art markers and find them in the store, or on Amazon
@smilesmile21162 жыл бұрын
@@MrTieDye Thanks. Washable markers are available also in Japan! I have bought some tiedyye shirts on Amazon, but your briliant videos inspires me to make original shirts. But I am not good at geometrical figures when I was a student(;^ω^) How do you grasp how to tie a shirt to arrive at the final representation you envisage ?

@kathleen97505 жыл бұрын
I've noticed that you batch them for 48 hours instead of 24. Does it soak up more dye, with less wash out? Or is it to make the colors more vibrant?
@MrTieDye5 жыл бұрын
it gives the dye more time to bond with the cotton fibers, so yes more vibrant colors.... I had started doing it with tees that I added a lot of black to as black takes longer to bond... but I noticed that all of my colors were just a little better .... AND, it does help the wash out as more of the dye is spent by the time you start rinsing

I use Fiber Reactive Procion Dyes. I buy most of mine from Dharma Trading Co. www.dharmatrading.com/dyes/dharma-fiber-reactive-procion-dyes.html I have also purchased the same kind of dyes from Custom Colours in NC and Grateful Dye in CO. Here is a video on how to mix the dyes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXfNY2tviZt1jMk Soda ash is what activate the Fiber Reactive Procion Dyes, another name for it is Sodium Carbonate. You can find it at one of the dye houses, or you can purchase locally from a pool supply store, or in the laundry isle under the name Washing Soda, just be sure to check the label says 100% Soda Ash. Here is how I mix or make soda ash: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHWUfoZ4Zdh0j5o as for centering the sunflower on the tapestry, just fold in half and then quarters and then you have the center of the tapestry

Mr. Tie Dye I am new at tie dying. I have a problem making accordorin pleats. I start it but then the center pops up and I have to start over. And over please help thank u.
@MrTieDye3 жыл бұрын
Hello and welcome to the Wonderful World of Tie-Dye ... the pop up happens to us all, one thing I do is adjust the height of my pleats .... if it is popping up, then you may need to make the pleats just a little bit taller, sometimes just a 1/4 inch higher makes a difference also, pleat take some practice, so the more of them you do, the easier and faster you will get with them just in case it helps, here is my Beginner's Playlist :kzbin.info/aero/PLMEtBqB2BzuquDrHsqxbv8LdFkaIyy3wo

Your measurements are for a larger tee. What would be the measurements for the sunflower for a ladies medium tee, instead of 9 and then 3??
@MrTieDye3 жыл бұрын
I start by figuring out how much space I have on the chest, I fold the tee in half and then I measure to within 3-6 inches from the sleeve seam .... on this one I can see I left 4-5 inches.... once you have the outer measurement, I just divide in half or thirds for the inner circle depending on how large you want it to be... I like a large center so I did my outer circle at 6 inches and the inner circle at 3 ... I hope this helps 😉🙏✌🏻

the brown of my shirt bled out of the middle. What did I do wrong? Was my shirt not dry enough? Do you thicken your brown dye. Do you have any suggestions? Please.
@MrTieDye5 жыл бұрын
it is possible the tee was too wet as you started to dye it, or you may have used a little too much of the brown.... one thing i will do sometimes when I feel something is too wet with dye is use a clean dry rag, wrap it around the area and squeeze a bit of the excess out... then if needed, you can add a tiny bit more dye ..... so basically, the liquid want to equalize itself within the tee... so if one part is real wet and another part is not so much, then the liquid (dye) will creep through the fabric .... another thing I do is dye one side and then lay some rags out and flip the tee over onto the rags and then dye that side and then lay some rag over top and press lightly.... careful not to press to hard or you may squeeze dye where you do not want it... I hope this made sense

Is the shirt inside out?
@MrTieDye4 жыл бұрын
yes, I work on the inside of the tees, it makes centering them easier as i can grab the seams of the tee, but also, I use various things to mark on the tees and almost always they wash out, but every now and then they do not, so these marks will be on the inside of the tee. Also, some of the dyes may not dissolve completely and have tiny specks of dye that will leave tiny spots on the tee, this way they to will be on the inside of the tee
