The tight and more precise dyeing near the tip compared to the more loose and spread out dyeing at the outer parts along with that bit of dark purple/black line makes it seem like a 3d kaleidoscope of sorts. Very cool.

This is really spectacular. I love the combination of blues 💙. I also Love it when dye "breaks" and the different colors come out. It's the serendipity of hand dyeing that no matter What you think you have under control, it's really never in complete control. So happy accidents are the name of hand dyeing. This is stunning! Struggling with the hemostats was well worth it. The colors are outstanding as well. I'm trying to judge how much dye to use, both dry and liquid, as I'm watching a plethora of videos. I've heard you say you're heavy handed when applying, that helps. Thank you! You could put the hemostats on facing the other way. It would change the direction of the points. You could give it a try - it's always fun to experiment with using hemostats in a variety of ways.

Thank you! Unfortunately no, the hemostats are what give this shirt the unique look. You can tie a mandala with rubber bands or sinew, but you can't get this particular look without using hemostats.

Hi! I'm really glad you are enjoying the videos and tie dye. This design would work well with liquid dye, but it won't have the same watercolor look that this shirt has. Ice dyeing allows the dye colors to split out into the component colors that were used to make the powdered dye - yielding a variety of interesting color splits. Liquid dye will be a more solid uniform color without color splits. Ice dye also gives a variety of color intensities throughout the shirt and more of a watercolor look. Liquid dyeing gives a more consistent color throughout the shirt. I've made several videos comparing the two techniques. Also i was wondering, these Dharma Dyes you mostly use.. can you also mix the pigment with water and use it both ways? or is it only for ice dye? also what is that other thing you put on the ice? is it just regular salt? still a bit unclear to me 😅. And sry for all the questions, just one more :D was wondering, if i would ice my liquid dyed shirt, do you think that would push it more into ice dyed style or would it have no effect? @@luca__3044 The Dharma Procion MX Fiber Reactive Dye I use is a powder that you can mix with water to make a liquid or you can use the powder to ice dye. I soak my shirt in a soda ash solution, but I usually add a little bit of additional dry soda ash over the top of the dye when I ice dye. You can add ice over the top of a liquid dyed shirt. I've done that several times to dilute the liquid dye some and make the shirt a little bit lighter. You can also add ice and a little dye over the top to add a little extra dimension to your liquid dyed shirt. There really is no wrong way to tie dye - that's what makes it so much fun! I recently found your channel and would like to know why you turn the shirts inside out before dying.

It is to help prevent any issues with colors that clump and leave harsh spots where the dye was. If it does clump, the color will muted a bit since the color was on the inside of the shirt and not an exterior layer.

I turn them inside out to avoid speckling from undissolved dye. Sometimes when you mix liquid dye, some of the dye won't dissolve properly and it can leave speckles on the shirt. It is a habit to turn all my shirts inside out regardless of the dyeing method I'm using.

Yes, turning them inside out when ice dyeing can help with any dye clumping spots.

Where did you get the vinyl tips for your hemostats?

It is heat shrink tubing. I purchase it from the electrical department at Home Depot. They have various sizes to fit the different size hemostats. I slide a piece of the tubing over each side of the hemostats and use a heat gun to shrink it to fit tightly. Then if there is any excess tubing at the end I just trim it with scissors.
