I would love this with 4 stripes. Blue, orange, purple and red. And half green with half brown instead of black. Too complicated I'm sure. I'm just trying to come up with a cool Ninja Turtles pattern.

Hey can you reuse the black dye from the bowl? You know, funnel it into a bottle.

I've considered that many, many times. But, I don't think it will work out very well as it's been mixed with soda ash at that point. And, once mixed, it has a much shorter lifespan.

Love your designs!! Is the soda ash used to set the dye? If not, what do you use to set it?

The soda ash is required for all fiber reactive dye. It changes the pH of the fabric and allows the dye to physically bond with the fibers. Without it, the dye will wash out within a few wash cycles.

im new to tye dying and iv made 3 galaxy themed shirts and 2 others but my colors dont seem as bright. should i soak in soda ash and does it matter if the shirt is inside out or not?

You won't have vibrant colors if you don't use Procion dye. Procion chemically bonds to fabric fibers while almost all other "fabric dye" is actually more like a stain. Soda ash is required with Procion dye. Without it, the chemical bond will not occur and the dye will wash out within a few wash cycles.
