This looks great! Really impressive. As one of the artists on the original XWA, it's sometimes frustrating trying to convince people that those original graphics were the best we could do at that time (for a multitude of reasons). It's fun to see that people were still so inspired by what Larry and his team did 25 years (!) ago.

Larry and his team did 'something something 25 years' ago. And what was done echoes still today. Unbelievable this stuff is still #1 once real comparisons start. I never quite got over TIE or X-wing for that matter and i can't wait to dive back into this. Local Hardcore Pelit magazine still holds TIE Fighter in #1 position and this total conversion got high marks as well. Tells something about how good the foundation is.

Loved the original Tie Fighter and the special edition with accelerated graphics. X-Wing Alliance was an absolutely brilliant game, gameplay and story wise. I love the new modded version of XWA and the fact that someone ported Tie Fighter to the newer engine it's just insane. I just hope that someday X-Wing gets the same treatment as that's the only one I haven't finished yet. Congrats Richard on the original game and to Angel on the massive effort on modding and porting the games, as a software developer myself I know this is in no way a simple task. Curious fact, I'm at this point in Battle 13 Mission 1 of TFTC, I'll probaly finish it this week. Still incredible to this day.

Unfortunately, the larger gaming community started shifting towards FPS instant gratification games and MMOs. It seems like the entire flight sim genre died, except snooze-fest sims like MS Flight Simulator.

The games got too complicated. Every subsequent release had more and more commands, until it was overwhelming for new players. Players who started with x-wing and went all the way through had no problem, but I watched new players struggle with x-wing vs tie fighter. By x-wing alliance, they couldn't figure it out.

@@nocrtname Not complicated. X-Wing vs TIE Fighter suffered from a lack of proper single player story campaign. It also forced players to slow down to 1/3 in order to make tight turns, which gave enemy fighters the speed advantage every time. And if you even accidentally 'targeted' an enemy command ship, you were rewarded with an Advanced Missile, blowing you away. For whatever reason, laser speed was also increased, making attack runs on command ships pretty much impossible. The game also messed up the hitboxes, making it a chore for us to even hit slow moving Shuttles.

Tie Fighter was the only Star Wars game (including the other Sims) that felt realistic to me. Like how things really should behave and perform. Love it!!! I really hope this could have Coop multiplayer!!!

This series had just enough of a learning curve to completely immerse you into the cockpit. Tie Fighter most of all, completely captured my imagination playing it as a kid, '98 cd. And when I revisit these games, they always hold up to what I remember. Looks like this is the perfect way to revisit hunting pirates, rebel scum and of course the dastardly Admiral Zaarin fleet.

Remember also that to defect to the Rebels, you must not have the Imperial accent, and must speak sympathetically as if that behavior is supported within the Imperial Navy, and then be shocked at what they expect you to do.
