Thanks for the views of Bristol. I was moved to Trevose by my family in 1938 when i was 3 years old. We did most of our shopping in Bristol as there was no shopping in the Trevose area untill much later. Mill street was a busy place at that time with shoppers. I remember Leon Plavins Auto Boys store, and Diamonds sporting goods store. At the entry onto Mill st was a movie theater. In 1955 i bought a runabout boat with a 40 horse Mercury outboard motor. It was the largest outboard made at that time. I kept the boat at a small marina on Neshaminy creek very close to the RT 13 bridge over the creek. There was a larger private owned marina where the State owned marina is today. We did lots of water skiing on the river. Back then tug boats would be towing large barges with sand and gravel down river. The water front at Bristol looked much different then, the pavilion was there but no docks. I havent been to Bristol in probably 40 years, as i lived in upper Bucks prior to moving to Florida 25 years ago. But i still have a boat, and will be going Crappie fishing later today. Thanks again for the video.

Fact is the Coast Guard is not involved in saving moored abandoned vessels. If it was in open water and lives were at risk they would respond. Alongside a safe berth it’s the owners responsibility. Abandoned vessels are a big problem, different states have different methods for handling removal. Authority to act and who pays is the question.

That sort of thing has been going on all over, it seems there's a few abandoned or sunk boats everywhere we go these days, on the rivers, sunk in the creeks, back bays, or just tied up waiting to sink. The easiest thing someone should have done was lead that boat into shallower water where if it sank, it wasn't completely flooded to the surrounding water. If it went down in 3ft of water the clean up would be far easier and far less costly.

It’s not the responsibility of the Coast Guard to remove the vessel from the water nor maintain its seaworthiness at the pier, that falls on the owner. All the Coast Guard is going to do is move it out of the way so it’s not a hazard to navigation. The Army Corps or the county is responsible for removing it if the owner isn’t able to do.
@michaelnotigan77969 ай бұрын
Correct, 100%. The CG does not do salvage work, for that, it's a call to SeaTow. Once that boat was safely moored up, the CG or local Marine Police's work is complete. Whatever agency tied that boat up (if they indeed, did so) could have run the registration and VIN numbers to find out who the owner is & contact them to have the boat removed. As it stands, the CG will be very interested in that gas/oil sheen on the water. And I'd expect the CG will find the owner and advise them of how much the fine costs will be.

I spent a career in the fed. govt where we would often interact with the USCG. What I learned is that placing your trust in them to do the right thing is many, many times a mistake. Hilarious at times like running your ship into a fixed navigation aid. In my experience many of these puddle sailors are inexperienced, inadequately trained, and arrogant. Like cops in a way, carry a big gun and tell the rest of the world what to do even if you have no idea. But, in the spirit of fairness some are well intentioned even if their commands have their heads up their a$$.

Most boat owners are on their boat everyday or are aware where their boat is at all time. That owner is responsible for the cleanup & removal of his boat irregardless if he sold it to someone else. Until the title is transferred he still owns it. Just like owning a car. Make sure who is buying your property to be sure it’s in the other people’s name. Personally he never sold it. He made that up & was hoping it would sink on its own before the Coast Guard “found it”. Abandoning a vessel is a serious offense where I live. Not only is it a navigational hazard it is an environmental hazard. If he can afford to own a boat? He can afford the fines that go with it. Keep up the great content! That was great!
