Here’s my list of RID 2001 characters who deserve WFC/Legacy-tier redos: Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus (Titan): Yes, they could be sold individually, but I think we’d get the best possible versions of both if they were designed at the same time AND we wouldn’t be left hanging waiting for a Leader Class Magnus after a Commander Class OP the same way we’re currently waiting for Jetfire and Overload to complete Armada Prime. Ruination: Can ONLY happen after we get updates for the Combaticons (they don’t NEED one but I want one). Would hate it if he ended up as a Pulse exclusive multipack of retools, though. Sky-Byte (Voyager): with how much beastformers have improved over the last decade, I’d say he deserves a redo. Make Spellos proud, HasTak! Also wouldn’t mind a Cybershark or Sharkticon repaint. Megatron (Commander): Aside from Animated Megs, he’s the only Megatron deserving of the Commander price point. Might be a good way to see if six-changers are doable at the Commander price point (hoping for Sixshot and Quickswitch…), too. X-Brawn (Voyager): he’d probably be like 86 Ironhide in that he’s Deluxe size but with Voyager engineering. Slapper, Gas Skunk, and Dark Scream (all Deluxes): only happening if we get TMII Spittor, Stinkbomb and Nightglider repaints. Scourge: At least give us a Buzzworthy repaint of Legacy Laser Prime to make the people who weren’t happy with Velocitron Nemesis Prime (I’m not one of them; the Laser Prime mold looks better in traditional Nemesis colors than it does Scourge’s grays) happy. Megahead Megatron/Megabolt (Deluxe Class): Ideally part of a Titan Class Grand Mal with a toy-original robot mode, but I’d take him on his own if he could still do his original gimmick of replacing Fort Max’s head.

I think Ruination and possible Bruticus updates need to be completely separate. If Menasor is any indication, the Combaticons would most likely value the sunbow designs and go for strict cartoon accuracy, which would leave the Commandos entirely inaccurate to their own cartoon designs, not to mention we'd more than likely get only the one combined mode and not the scramble city aspect which Ruination featured in the anime on multiple occasions. If it weren't for Hepter kinda sucking, I'd say I'd be 100% fine with the Unite Warriors Baldigus release
@EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho Жыл бұрын
@@myoldhandlewasmadewheniwas9 Agreed. I said that some retooling would be needed for them, but I doubt HasTak would be willing to commit to the tooling needed to turn the toon Combaticons into the toy-accurate Commandos. @medafan53 Жыл бұрын
Given that Shadow Striker takes the transformation scheme from her Universe toy, we can easily presume that the mold, hopefully retooled to look closer to a Viper, is destined to be Side Burn and given that Hasbro have apparently commited to completing teams, at bare mininmum the default versions of Prowl and X-Brawn would seem a shoo in. As for their powered up forms, I'm just not sure how it'd be released given the budget that would be needed for X-Brawn''s paint job, perhaps as a three pack Pulse exclusive, kinda like how Powelinx Hot Shot was?

Is anyone else hoping that the spychangers, at leasdt the main 6, eventually get Generations figures, it could probably be core class since they are meant to be the small line, so they can have ones with proper articulation, 'cause in the cartoon I always thought they looked cool, then the figures were amoung the brickiest bricks in the franchise. And given that they are made from repaints, they have reuses built in.

R.E.V. stands for Race Exertion Vehicle not evolution... I think you just had Legacy Evolution on the brain when you said that. W.A.R.S. actually stands for Wicked Attack Recon Sportscar which is a really weird name for an Autobot. It's already weird that his name is W.A.R.S. but the fact that the W is Wicked makes him sound even more evil. Also, it's not really that Brave Maximus didn't survive transit... that figure is illegal in the U.S. For U.S. toy safety laws they have this thing called the drop test where they will literally drop a toy from 4 feet up to see if it breaks and if any small parts will break off the figure that a child could potentially choke on. Fortress Maximus failed that test and that's why Hasbro couldn't release it. It was made illegal for to sell here. Japan doesn't have the same toy safety restrictions that the U.S. does and part of the reason for that... lets be real here, they don't actually do it to protect kids, they do it to protect parents and toy companies. Cause really the kids who choke on small objects are the ones not being supervised and the neglectful parents are looking to blame anyone but themselves so they sue the company who made the toy and then new safety regulations are made that restrict toy companies all because parents are lazy. This doesn't happen in Japan cause Parents actually are held accountable for their own neglect, toys are clearly labeled with the warning "this contains small parts that are a choking hazard, parental supervision is required." so they don't have the option to sue the company like Americans do. Also I don't think that Megatron Megabolt was actually intentionally designed with that Headmaster gimmick in mind. Considering Brave Maximus is just a repaint of a G1 toy and Megatron was designed for Beast Machines, it's essentially just a coincidence that they ended up in the same Toy line at all. And technically they didn't because I looked it up and it looks like the Beast Machines figures were never released in the Car Robots toy line in Japan so not only did America never get Brave Maximus but Japan also never got Megatron Megabolt. They don't really connect you can just sort of sit Megatron on top of Maximus in a sort of unofficial fan mode. There's also no in universe reason to make those toys connect since they never interacted in fiction, at all.

So this toy line as you admit yourself, is kind of a Hodge podge of several different toy lines that really aren't fair to even rank against each other. Usually when you do tier lists like this you're ranking them by the toy line not comparing them to other toy lines but in this case you either have to compare figures from very different toy lines or split the line up into different categories that make a little bit more sense to compare along side each other. Either way you do it R.I.D.2001 is kind of a headache to rank properly. I don't even totally disagree with you here, the one major that I would actually disagree about is how you ranked the Spy Changers. I wouldn't even attempt to compare them with Cryotek because they're Spy Changers, they're very small simple toys that if I ranked them against anything else in the toy line they'd all go in Bargain Bin or Flea Market. I have to rank them separately as their own thing not comparing them to anything else to really give them a fair chance to rank any higher than that. With that in mind I'm going to go with separating everything into different categories before I rank them. And the categories are going to be Spy Changers, G1/G2 molds, Beast Wars molds, Beast Machines molds, Original molds, and Combiners. I will make a couple exceptions, I know there's original molds that came out in the Spy Changer class but I'm not going to include them in the original mold category because they're still really simple figures that I just can't justify comparing to a larger figure. I will also include Megatron/Galvatron in Beast Wars even though he's really not a Beast Wars toy, he's an original mold but I feel like he fits in well with the TM2 aesthetic that I don't mind comparing him to those figures. Finally the Combiner Category is the only time I'm going to compare a G1 set of toys to an original mold and that's only because Ruination is the only combiner who's a repaint and there's nothing else to compare them with so I'll talk about all the combiners twice. Once as separate individual figures and then again as a group. That feels like the most fair way to me to talk about this toy line.

Everything else was just personal preference cause they're all kind of the same it's just a matter of which color scheme do you like more. And Mirage kind of only went into the bottom of Holly Grail with the Translucent version being ranked in the same place because I was thinking about G1 Mirage being able to turn invisible while I was ranking that one.

G1/G2/Machine Wars molds Holy Grail: Scourge (G2 Laser Rod) Premium Price: Dreadwing, Wind Sheer, Skid-Z Retail Release: Mega-Octane (Original), Skyfire, Smokejumper, Tow-Line, Armorhide (Wal Mart), Rollbar (Orignal), Movor (Original), Ro-Tor (Original) Bargain Bin: Scourge (Destruction), Axer, Sideways, Bludgeon Flea Market: Mega-Octane (Wal Mart), Armorhide (Original), Rollbar (Wal Mart), Movor (Wal Mart), Ro-Tor (Wal Mart) I forgot there were Machine Wars molds in this toy line as well. They really came out in the same era as Beast Wars but feel more like that G1/G2 Aesthetic so I kind of always forget they're a separate thing and just threw them in here. I'm being more forgiving to Ruination because they also have to combine but you can see where they rank based on mold alone. The repaints I just threw into Flea Market though cause they're rather uninspired and don't really work. And in case you're wandering Armorhide is the only one where I ranked the repaint higher than the original because for some reason his original release in the U.S. gave him a really inaccurate paint job that just looks horrible on that mold, he's the only one where the Wal Mart version is closer to the animation model. Otherwise you have to get the Takara release if you really want a screen accurate Armorhide. Him more than any of the others looks so much better if you get the Takara version. But we're not ranking Car Robots right? Just RID2001? Yeah.

Beast Wars Transmetal 2 Molds Holy Grail: Galvatron, Megatron Premium Price: Sky-Byte Retail Release: Cryotek Bargain Bin: Slapper, Gas Skunk Flea Market: Dark Scream This is why I threw Galvatron and Megatron in here cause there just aren't a lot of Beast Wars molds to fill out this list. Galvatron is slightly higher only because I like the color scheme more. Sky-Byte is really high on the list because I love that mold, either version of it I just love transforming sharks. Cryotek I put kind of low because I much prefer the original Megatron colors on that mold. I don't care about Cryotek that much, it's still a really good mold but he's kind of mid based on the colors and character just being less popular than Megatron. Now what I really have to explain is how I ranked Slapper, Gas Skunk, and Dark Scream. Because they're all basics I put them really low. I was debating my own placements of Gas Skunk and Dark Scream. Slapper I'm pretty happy with where he ended up because I like the mold, I like the colors more than the original, He's good where he is. So based on being repaints, Dark Scream is better. Gas Skunk is actually repainted from the original but it's just ever so slightly darker colors and there's no gold chrome on this version, the original had gold chrome. That's the biggest most noticeable difference is the lack of chrome. Personally I don't like Dark Scream's colors, he looks bland and washed out compared to the others, his original paint job brought out a lot of the molded details better and I just prefer the BW version so much better. The other thing I factored besides just color scheme compared to the original is the mold itself. The Beast Wars versions of Sky-Byte, Gas Skunk, and Dark Scream were all Maximals but these versions are Predacons. Sky-Byte and Gas Skunk I actually do think their molds work better as Predacons. Dark Scream however still very much looks like a Maximal to me and based on that I put him down in the Flea Market. There's nothing wrong with the mold on it's own I just don't like the colors and don't think he works as a Predacon. Gas Skunk is slightly higher even though the colors are nearly identical to the original just because I think he works better as a Predacon than he did as a Maximal.

Beast Machines molds Holy Grail: Optimus Primal Premium Price: Megatron Retail Release: Bruticus, Jhiaxus, Megabolt Bargain Bin: Storm Jet, Mirage, Nightcruz, Obsidian Flea Market: Scavenger OK So I'm going to acknowledge something here... I actually don't like Optimus Primal or Megatron. The only reason that they're ranked as high as they are is because they really aren't RID2001 toys, they're canceled Beast Machines toys that got shuffled into this toy line after Beast Machines was canceled. They're literally made to represent those versions of the characters. Optimus Primal is the most accurate version of Beast Machines Primal and Megatron is really the ONLY option if you want a Grand Mal Megatron even though it's really not accurate to the cartoon. I keep mine in alt mode because if it just didn't have the spider legs he's fine in that mode but the Grand Mal transformed into a ship not a robot. Megatron is slightly lower because of the inaccurate robot mode, honestly in the show the giant head is the robot mode, the alt mode kind of loosely resembles the Darksyde in the way it's shaped. But those are required figure if you want representations of the BEAST MACHINES characters. Bruticus I also put really high only because he's a canceled figure and this is the only way you can get that mold. I acknowledge the fact that it's not a good mold but it's at least interesting. At the Bottom I put all the repaints. Beast Machines is actually one of the few toy lines where I bought all of the figures from... except Snarl only because I could never find one. I also skipped the huge versions of Cheetor and Jetstorm because those figures were just ridiculously expensive. But here's the thing... the way these figures were repainted for RID2001 made them look really bad. Megabolt is just lazy and Megatron himself is also called Megatron Megabolt so was Megabolt even suppose to be a different character or was it just still Megatron in a different color scheme? Jhiaxus looks the best but still isn't great. Storm Jet I really only put as high as it is because he's a Deluxe, I don't think those colors belong on that mold. Mirage in those colors looks like he should have been called Dragstrip. Obsidian looks boring and I thought he was two packed with Tankor but apparently that was the Universe version. Honestly that's how bad these repaints are is they feel like Universe repaints. I almost put Obsidian in Flea Market because I confused him with the Universe version. Honestly any of those figures, I would recommend getting the Beast Machines version because they have never looked that good when they're repainted in other toy lines. Both RID and Universe made the mistake of trying to paint very alien designs in standard Earth vehicle colors and it just end up washing out the details molded into those figures. That's the main reason why Primal and Megatron are so high is because they still look like Beast Machines toys with the way they're painted. Honestly I really wish we could have gotten to see what Cerberus was actually meant to look like in his Beast Machines colors. That's a figure that I didn't even realize was a canceled Beast Machines toy because he has that horrible washed out color scheme like the other repaints. It hides all the details. I don't think they felt the need to give him a Beast Machines accurate paint job because unlike Optimus and Megatron he was never in the show so I don't think they felt the need to make him look like he fit into the Beast Machines toy lines like they did with Optimus and Megatron who they knew people were still going to want as those characters. Is it fair of me to judge them purely on color scheme if the mold is still good, probably not but this is just my opinion. The Beast Machines molds more than anything don't really belong in this toy line in the first place so I'm comparing them more based on the toy line they should be in.

Original molds. Holy Grail: Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, Side Burn (Powerlinx) Premium Price: Wedge, Grimlock, Hightower, Heavy Load (Show accurate version), Side Burn (Original) Retail Release: X-Brawn (Original) Landfill (All Yellow version), Railspike, Rapid Run, Midnight Express Bargain Bin: Prowl Flea Market: X-Brawn (Powerlinx) OK this is how I'm going to justify this. First of all, from what I remember all of these figures who had tires had rubber tires which deteriorate after 10 years. For that alone they all belong in Flea Market just because none of them even exist intact anymore. I really want these to get modern updates so we can get a version that will last more than 10 years. But I'm not going to judge them based on longevity, I'm just going to judge them based on how good they were at the time. Of the ones I feel I need to justify the most. Side Burn is actually my favorite of the Autobot Brothers and I put Powerlinx in Holy Grail because for me he is. He's on the low end of that but I really like the colors, I like the asymmetrical design, and I never found that version in stores. Original Side Burn is on the low end of Premium Price honestly because again he's competing with combiners who have more play value. As stand alone figures I would have ranked him on the high end but I acknowledge that you're not getting the build team to be stand alone figures you're getting them for the combiner. Speaking of which I put Heavy Load as the worst one not Grimlock. I think Grimlock is fine for what he is, I think people judge him unfairly just do to the name slap. Heavy Load has a HUGE awkward looking weapon that works better for the combined mode but when he's just on his own looks really over sized so that's why I consider him the worst individually. And I put the all yellow version in Retail because I get what they were going for giving them a color scheme closer to real world vehicles but they look boring when they're all colored the same. By the way I think that's also the reason Rail Racer didn't sell very well. It's not that Americans don't like trains. I literally live in an area that still has a working train station. It doesn't even really go anywhere people just ride the train for FUN, I have a video on my channel that was filmed on the train. No real reason they didn't sell well is because they kind of all look the same. Even the combined mode is just more of the same it just gets bigger. Compare them to Raiden who is made of 6 different types of trains with 6 different color schemes while Rail Racer is 3 white and blue bullet trains. I literally had to look at all three of them side by side to pick out small differences because still to this day I can't pick out which one I'm actually looking at. X-Brawn in robot mode has a really interesting unique look that I love but then he just transforms into this very generic looking silver van. The reason Powerlinx is in Flea Market is because I think he's the worst of the repaints. The vehicle mode has like a race car look but he's a minivan that color scheme makes no sense. In robot mode he barely changes at all. Maybe it's just me being color blind but when I look at the robot parts I can't even tell what they changed. Prowl I stuck in Bargain Bin because honestly... I don't hate the figure but he always confused me. He doesn't have the same Asymmetrical aesthetic as the other two which makes him boring to look at at. He's based on a race car which ironically mean's X-Brawn's Powerlinx colors would make more sense for Prowl's mold. It doesn't actually look like a police car. Supposedly it's based on a high speed pursuit vehicle in Japan but I can't find any police vehicle with that model outside of Transformers. Also this was the one instance where Hasbro didn't really change the paint job from the Takara version and is the one time they most needed to. Part of the reason I was so confused by this figure is why they left Japanese characters that no one can read on the vehicle mode. I mean it's accurate but they changed Scourge's faction symbols to a more recognizable Decepticon insignia so why not change Prowl to say Police in English? And then the repaint is also released unchanged with his name in Japan printed on the side. At least it's in English so we can read it this time but we still don't know why it says Mach Alert. I am going to fully admit that my opinion of Prowl is entirely based on being an dumb American that didn't know any better. If I grew up in Japan and actually knew him as Mach Alert I'd probably rank him higher. I can't really make up my mind which color scheme I like more so I didn't even bother to separate them they're just both in Bargain Bin because they're boring and confusing to an American audience.
