I really recommend The Tokyo Zodiac Murders by Soji Shimada. The English version is a translation of the Japanese but having read both versions, I can say that it's a faithful translation. This author is considered the godfather of the Golden Age Murder Mystery genre in Japan. He has written over 30 books but sadly this is the only one to get translated. It's also the only one written in this style where the author challenges the reader to try and figure out how the murder is done before revealing the solution. There is a page literally telling you when you are about to be spoiled. The solution itself is pure genius. It's a bit of a grotesque murder in the details but this has to be one of the best murder mystery novels by a none English language author. You can tell that the author was inspired by Sherlock Holmes and the protagonist is a sort of Japanese take on him.

So glad to find a channel that talks about my favorite genre - mysteries and thrillers! I have so many TBRs from you on my goodreads list now - thank you! I love your reviews - they are honest and helpful, without giving away the ending of the books! Anthony Horowitz has some great mysteries - The Word is Murder is the first in 4 book series, and Magpie Murders and its sequel is another series. All have been great reads! 🔍

One of my favorite mystery characters is Lord Peter Wimsey. He is the main character in the books written by Dorothy L Sayers. I believe the writer was a contemporary of Agatha Christie. The first book was "Whose Body?" I'd like to know what you think of it.

Also, if you like mom drama, Lovely Girls by Margot Hunt is top notch. I read it as an ARC and I’m not sure when it comes out, but it’s definitely a good read!

Omg, thank you so much!!! I just read "And then there were none".... and I don't get it. SPOILERS It doesn't really make sense if you think about. A bullet to the head would cause a bunch of blood and would go through the wig. How did he fake it. It seemed to me that she wrote the whole book and was like, "Guess I should pick a killer."

That’s so funny you didn’t like And Then There Were None and loved Death On The Nile. I’m the complete opposite. I felt Death On The Nile was so predictable, so I didn’t enjoy it as much. But the ending of And Then There Were None had me shook.

Have you listened to the audiobooks of the Lady Hardcastle Mysteries? The narrator is PHENOMENAL. I’m not sure I could read a physical copy without hearing her voice now.

And Then There Were None was the very first adult mystery I ever read. I went from Nancy Drew to Agatha Christie. And The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is probably my favorite Christie, the original unreliable narrator. I'm taking some recommendations from your list, as well as the comments below. Fun video.

I was the only person in my book club who liked The Paris Apartment lol but it was also my first Lucy Foley. One classic murder mystery I recommend is “Trial & Error” by Anthony Berkeley. Holy f**ing god. The first 1/3 is very slow, if you stick with it it blows your socks off. I was also laughing aloud. 6/5 stars!!!!!!!

Big Little Lies is general fiction, but I suppose if they can put Emily Henry and Colleen Hoover in romance, why not?! 😉 Not a fan of Lucy Foley. I feel she is to mystery what Riley Sager is to thriller-and it's Not complimentary. 😏 One by One is actually one of the few Ruth Ware books I liked. Agatha Christie is the Queen of Mystery for a reason. 👑 I like Death on the Nile, Murder of Roger Aykroyd as well as And Then There Were None (and many other from her Poirot/Marple catalog)but my absolute favorite from her is Cards on the Table (brilliant locked room mystery). Richard Osman has been a delightful find for me. Loving his books. I do enjoy CL Taylor more than you seem to, but I don't like Foley at all. Anthony Horowitz has quickly become a favorite of mine, right next to Christie. In fact, his writing tone is very similar. I'm always surprised that Ruth Ware gets compared to her when their style is Not similar (unfortunately for Ware 🤣), and Horowitz never seems to receive it eventhough his style is. 🤷‍♀️ I don't tend to get caught up in the whole "policing" author's who wrote decades/centuries ago. We would have virtually no classics to read if we banned "problematic" books. I'm Not a fan of censorship in any case. I don't get hung up on what newer author's are "tweeting", which seems more like twitting to me anyway, either. If you've been convicted of something serious, no I'm Not buying your book 📙-otherwise if the story sounds good then...to the TBR pile it goes.😁

If Agatha Christie is similar to Lucy foley…. Then that saves me a lot of time trying to get into Agatha 😢. I can’t stand any book I’ve read by Lucy foley unfortunately.
