"They don't share their kills" My cat begs to differ and mostly because he thinks I have a skill issue

Got that second part backwards. You provide food constantly, you're a great hunter and cat wants to contribute some food back!
@gaelonhays17126 ай бұрын
This is my issue. He brings back small, low EXP, high effort, and generally gross loot, and even when he does bring back something big, I'm too low-level and generalized to do anything about it. He once brought back a rabbit that was still warm, pushed the door open with the rabbit in his mouth, and set it inside before running off. I was grateful, of course, and impressed, as the rabbit was nearly twice his size (impressive again, as he's particularly fat), but I've never cleaned a rabbit. I've never even eaten a rabbit. So I took it back outside, and within a day, he took the hint and ate it.

A few interesting points you missed: *Whiskers* - Cats use whiskers as proprioceptive radars, and also sensors to determine where their body can fit. (This helps them not get softlocked when exploring.) *Reaction Time* - Cat's reaction time is as quick as 20 milliseconds, twice as fast as a snake. This ensures their strikes and parries amd dodges virtually always land, no matter the trap or random encounter. *Exhaustion Hunting* - Rather similar to human players, cats often use exhaustion to reduce their enemies to a 0 stamina state for a kill, since their weapons are not particularly dangerous. This helps guarantee they win fights with 0 damage. *Purring* - Live testing has shown cat purring gives a subtle heal buff to adjacent creatures, so cats have a hidden passive ability that boosts parties. *Tail Counterbalance* - Moreso than dogs, cats use their tails to modify their inertia, allowing them quickly change vectors or maintain a level reticle when charging or performing aerial maneuvers.
@tomfurstyfield5 ай бұрын
Cats leave food in their bowls because they don't like their whiskers touching the edges too much
@nicolaim42755 ай бұрын
Even more traits: Flexible skeleton - Cats can fit in and move through almost anything if they can just get their head through. Bio-weapons - Cats synergize with the parasite toxoplasmosis to infect prey and make it docile. They also carry bacteria in their claws and saliva that make healing harder, thus increasing the risk of engaging in combat with a cat.

About tool use. I have been around hundreds of cats living on a farm and as house pets. One in particular stands out. A 6 toed cat we called "parrot" because he would climb up and sit on your shoulder, staying there everywhere you went, even if you laid down under a piece of equipment to work on it. I had to be extra careful when welding because I didn't want to hurt his vision. we eventually let him in the house because he was not afraid of moving equipment. However, he was the single smartest cat I have ever known. He would "talk" to you, open doors (often closing them behind him), flush toilets, turn on faucets and open refridgerators, and a chest freezer, and also get his food out of containers with a screw on lid. We had him in the semi finished basement with a screen door up to the stairs. Dad installed a cam over spring latch on the door. The cat would pry it open. He installed a second spring latch, Parrot opened it, and he installed a third latch for three total, it also had a closing spring. We had to be able to push the door open from the other side to carry wood to the stove with both hands full. With three latches up top it was really difficult! After about a week, Parrot appeared upstairs again after we heard a tremendous bang from all those latches being forced! He did this several times. The door was fully recessed. One day, I was napping in the chair by the stove and heard the door banging. I watched him. The cat was able to use his claws to spring the bottom of the door just enough to push a piece of lath that was lying on the floor into the gap with his back feet, and then brace himself against a metal box and push the end of the lath over to use it as a crowbar to pop open the door! That was the only time I ever saw a cat use a tool.

i aint reading all that i asked chatgpt "What an incredible story about Parrot! It’s fascinating how he exhibited such intelligence and resourcefulness. Cats are known for their agility and curiosity, but Parrot took it to a whole new level by using tools to achieve his goals. His ability to open doors, flush toilets, and even manipulate latches is truly remarkable. It’s not every day that we witness a cat using a tool in such a deliberate way. Parrot’s problem-solving skills and determination are a testament to the adaptability of animals. I can imagine how surprised and amused you must have been to see him use that piece of lath as a crowbar to open the door!"

Parrot was clearly a rare critter. Thanks for sharing. I had one years back who _used_ a toilet a couple times, but didn't flush. Walter...keep grinding at that patience skill. You missed a good read.

Yes and no. Domesticated classes are different from their wild equivalents down in their code. There is a significant discrepancy between the code of a housecat and a wildcat, even if the housecat did not spec in the "tame" attribute. It would be more correct to recognize that, typically, when the "domesticated" trait is patched in for a class, it's because the human players petitioned for it. But it was more heavily the CAT players who petitioned for their own class to be patched - admittedly with the blessing of the human players.

@@Siberius- True i think its more accurate to say cats initiating the domestication process is the key difference. they are domestic, they can eat and digest some starches and other food they their wild counterparts cannot (a similar change occurred in wild canines). Any domestic animal can become feral and fend for itself in the wild. isolated humans (individuals not groups) undergo similar changes.perhaps using diverged groups like dogs and wolves as a comparison to domestic cats and African wildcats doesn't clear up how it happened.simply because the context of the former relationship of small-wildcats and humans is overshadowed by the history of the domestic one in a way that wolves were not, because we competed for food. sorry for the rant, but the history of domestication was always a fascinating one to me!
@midnightfenrir6 ай бұрын
@@alivecoydidn't they discover that domesticated dogs and wolves have divergent histories, not that dogs come from wolves? I also thought one of the major indicators of domestication is breeding for purpose. A house cat is just basically a wild cat in terms of genetics and we haven't needed to specifically breed them for what we use them for. Which is why the wild cat is going extinct, because they interbreed heavily with their domestic counterparts.

Another aspect of the house cat that i feel still somewhat overlooked is how they fill the role of a companion build. As tierzoo said, cats require minimal upkeep, making them great choices for human player with tight schedules, or struggles with physical or mental health, as even though house cats are considered social animals, they often prefer to be alone, or with one to three other party members. The housecat's ability to purr has also been found to have physical and mental healing effects on non housecat builds, such as humans. And thanks to their relatively decent intelligence stat, they can detect the emotions of other players fairly well, and act accordingly. These factors are why the vast majority of housecat owners are elderly, or the young adults in today's meta, as both groups have some level of restrictions when it comes to how active they can be with a companion in their party, and housecats are able to fill that particular void perfectly.

We have reached irreducible complexity in a single cell. It is not possible for the proteins, and every component needed to make a cell to exist in nature without each other for longer than microseconds. None of this is opinion. Darwin by his own words doesn't believe Darwinian evolution. It is not possible for single cells to not exist then exist because the components to make a living cell can not exist on their own. The house cat build’s decision to invest so many evolution points into the “reflexes” skill is an incredibly powerful decision. The ability to react to threats of attacks before they land is not to be underestimated, it makes the house cat build nearly untouchable so long as the player using it has their guard up. Combined with their above average speed stat and their second-to-none perception with high investment in the “eyesight”, “hearing”, and “whiskers” skill trees, sneaking up unnoticed on a house cat player up is impossible.
@a.v.y83316 ай бұрын
it even doubles as an incredible hunting tool, where they can detect prey way before prey can detect them, and then even outskill their prey by reacting to maneuvers in the middle of executing any action. cats have some of the least hitlag and fastest animation cancels in the animal kingdom, which, combined with these reflexes, allow them to lock prey in unstoppable and unbreakable combos most of the time. of course, the fact that they're a rogue assassin type build also means that it usually takes only one grab or one crit to ensure the kill, but there's a backup for if they fail the grab or crit, and then there's a backup to the backup since there's virtually no frames between missing one hit and the next one landing.

What's especially fascinating is that, unlike other animals that humans have domesticated, these small cats domesticated themselves in a way. Once humans started growing and storing large quantities of food, rodents and birds saw an easy food source that drew in large populations of them. This in turn made them an abundant target for the cats. Humans recognized this and allowed the cats to stay within their civilizations, while the cats grew to lose their fear of humans as a serious threat.

Yeah I remember reading someone saying that it was a domestication of convenience, not really because of anything humans did. It's fine as long as it suits the cat. We had friends who had cats and dogs and they went on holiday for a few days and forgot to leave food for them. All of the animals were outside (although they had a sheltered area) the whole time. When they returned the cats were their fine, happy selves. They figured something had gone wrong with the regular supply of food, so they wasted any bird that happened to enter the yard and ate that. The dogs on the other hand were a dejected mess. They'd just sat there waiting the whole time.

He might take some time, but he always comes back with the good chocolate milk, every time.

Considering the theme of the video, I'm glad that he managed to escape a singularity called "cat videos" at all 😁

1:23-1:26 I was expecting to see like an Atari for the early cat build, but I'm unpacking my 360 and my Wii as part of my house cleanup as I'm watching this video, I've never been so offended in my life 😂

I laughed so hard at that moment. I think it's a jab at those "What kind of gamer are you?" memes where something like Ancient Gamer or Prehistoric Gamer was depicted with 2000's games/consoles..

Got to love how you can explain real life like a video game and it makes perfect sense. Good job

This is a really amazing video, man. It's not just cos it's an internet cat video. The editing on this is phenomenal along with the script. It all flows into a game description so fluidly

The cat is the quintessential parry build. No fancy dodges, no fancy gimmicks, no weird attacks, and no unusual intelligence. Just pure skill. High risk, high reward.

Now I understand why cats will just look at each other in a fight and don't attack, because they can parry each other. The duel would be energy inefficient and endless. Downloaded Cell to Singularity too!

nah, they have their own language and shit, they are probably talking in cat language before the attacks start going off - some cats have more dexterity than others

I always have been jealous of the cats, incredibly agile, with lightning-fast reactions, endowed with beauty and grace
