Great performance Tiffany 😊 I think this work is different from Six Partitas. What is the difference? I think these are the pomp, and used harmony occasionally in this work. I love both of them. Thank you Tiffany 🎶😊

Miss Poon has a strong left hand, and, relative to the right hand plays everything with a fractionally louder left than right hand. These little dances benefit from this characteristic enormously. For me this clarity of the lower part makes this performance of the French dances the best I have ever heard. The sophistication and musicality of her music performances contrast with her childish scat performances in interviews and pop programs. Poles apart. I takes all sorts to make a world. We are lucky in our time; lovely comfortable music halls, KZbin, Steinways, Faziolis, wireless. The music of the masters.
@RevantuZ6 жыл бұрын
Well said. The bass really brings out the harmonic progressions and provides an excellent baseline for the higher parts, just like in choral music.
@mencken85 жыл бұрын
John-Patrick Dickson I am attracted to her playing, possibly because of that left hand. Perhaps the reason Glenn Gould has always been a favorite of mine.
@DangerRussDayZ65334 жыл бұрын
Baroque music, especially Bach, was all about multiple voices singing clearly. His work is dense with counterpoint and so a clear left hand is extremely important.

I've just been listening to this on Idagio (from 2019). Absolutely stunning. Your Courante has a wonderful interplay of lyricism, precision and power. The Sarabande is more bittersweet than melancholy and all the better for it. Bravo!!!!

Have you ever played an instrument like a piano? Moving one's head and arms like that are kind of just inherent. You feel the music moving through you and the song coming through your fingertips! Like all instruments, it's rather a personal connection with the music and the instrument. I don't think Tiffany's really trying to draw attention to herself... she made a remarkable performance and played quite flawlessly, I thought.

I love Tiffany’s playing in general. However, I prefer Rudolph Serkin’s 1950 version of this piece, also available on KZbin. The slower movements are deeper and more profound. Tiffany was so young when she recorded this. I would love to hear her revisit her interpretation now that she is older.

Why does nobody, but really nobody from more than 20 of these KZbin videos, perform the Gavotte from this 5th French Suite as a true Gavotte? Well known or unknown, they all get it wrong. Is that too strong language from an unknown like myself? But read on, and I'll prove it. Like all Gavottes it starts with a double upbeat, three-four-ONE-two, three-four-ONE-two. But everyone plays it as if the first note was the first beat of the bar, the DOWNbeat. Prokofiev got it right in his 'Classical Symphony' parody: "diddle diddle DUMPy DUMPy DUMPy", now THAT's how a Gavotte should go. Peter Freyhan.

May be so, may be not. His favourite instrument wasn't the harpsichord, as is generally believed. It was the clavichord, which is a big step towards the piano. We'll never know of course, but I take your point.
