Liverpool have received a surprise offer for their Brazilian midfielder Fabinho for a reported £40 million from Saudi side Al-Ittihad.
Fabinho has been left out of their pre-season tour squad, with the 29-year-old looking likely to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side.
But who makes sense to replace the versatile midfielder, with a particular look at a number 6 who needs to slot into a relatively new look midfield at Anfield? JJ Bull looks at potential successors.

Yess I'm so glad that Tifo, my faves, rate Amrabat. I was hoping he'd come in when they were linked in January and even more so now Fabihno is leaving. I love his versatility where he plays progressively through the press under pressure and sets the tempo in possession-focused Fiorentina but we saw him be a top class destroyer in the Morrocan midfield - tells me he's tactically really disciplined and versatile in terms of what's asked of him and has the capability and decision-making ability to pull it off.

The stats about them winning more without him than with him are really misleading. Fabinho always starts the important and hard games because of his defensive cover and he sometimes doesn’t start when the opponent is weak. That is why the stats are different for when he starts or doesn’t start.

Thoughts on letting Fabinho go for £40 Million: • We won’t get more than £40 Million for him ever again. • I don’t know how much it will cost to replace him. •If we don’t get a good replacement for him, £40 million was not worth letting go of your starting midfield anchor. I don’t think the Original plan was to let Fab go. But I assume they have something they’re working in the background bc. It would be very stupid to let Fabinho go, without knowing who to replace him with. Especially bc teams will increase their valuation on their players, knowing we’re desperate.

He had a bad year last year but Amrabat is never as good as peak Fabinho. Similar player but not at that level (as much as he was my favourite player at the WC, nothing got past him, while he's more of a playmaker for Fiorentina). That said he's the closest thing out there that's available at a price we can afford. But I'd like to throw Palinha's hat in the ring. He's not as strong as Fabinho when it comes to progressive passes and carries, however his tackling and defensive output was so much higher. Add the fact that we have Szobo and Macca in midfield rather than Hendo and Thiago, it should mean more goals and progression, so I really wouldn't mind seeing us have more of a DM/Halfback to help out the defence this year.

Why not Tyler Adams? Maybe not as the ONLY answer but possibly part of the answer. I dont think he will cost an incredible amount and was obviously a huge loss for Leeds and might be the main reason they couldnt muster an escape from relegation. Considering he had a Championship level defense behind him and scarce talent around him.. he managed to play really well and while I dont have the data while typing this...Leeds PPG was probably worth being safe had he managed to stay fit. Also I dont think he negates the ability to bring in a young guy to learn nor buying someone down the line. Plus he can play fullback if need arises.

The idea was supposed to be to buy Lavia and learn from Fabinho. But selling him put Liverpool in a tight position. But Klopp is not stupid, i think he has someone in mind already or he wouldn’t sell Fabinho

It's unlikely Klopp (or managers in general) has a huge amount of control when it comes to transfers. They (Managers) will be able to have an input and also may be able to help sway decisions but I think tieing signing directly to managers is quite misleading. Might make for a good tifo vid though.
@SKa-tt9nm
@SKa-tt9nm Жыл бұрын
@@thehearingaiddepends on the manager. Klopp has massive influence over decision making. Clearly, lfc appointed jorg sporting director because of his relationship with Klopp. It’s somewhat of a team effort - famously, salah was klopp’s 5th choice but others convinced him to take a chance on mo. Conversely, if Klopp vetoes any player, that player is off the list. In this case, there’s no way lfc sold fab and hendo without making sure Klopp was comfortable with corresponding moves.

Fab exemplified the perfect engine room midfielder. I'm going to miss the guy, but the fact that we got $40 mil for him is a great return for him and will allow us to buy a suitable replacement or new CB. Bajcetic is the guy we need to grow into Fab's role and he showed that he has the chops to be every bit as good as Fab was at his peak if not better as he grows.

My top three and realistic subs are Sangaré, Amrabat and Koopmeiners. Obviouly, if avaiable, Kimmich would be the ideal. I don't want anyone who's not secure on the ball and technical. You can't play with only a destroyer anymore. Look at City, Arsenal, Chelsea, United, they all have destroyers but are also very safe, calm, and technical on the ball. Fabinho used to be like that too. People forget how he would disarm someone and then send an amazing long ball to the wingers and they would attack again. It was like water constantly hitting rock until the rock breaks.

Surprised to not see more people talking about Sangare. He has a release clause which would be in line with how we've bought people this season, we've looked at him before, he's a unit, and importantly he's really strong defensively which to me is the most important thing as he'll have Trent alongside him to help with the passing/creativity from deep. I just want a destroyer, for me he fits the bill more than Amrabat or some of the others touted.

I think Al Musrati from braga would be the perfect fit for Liverpool. As he plays for braga he would be cheaper than buying from benfica or a prem club. However, he’s comfortably been the best outright CDM in the league this year. He is a work horse in a 2 man midfield where he’s predominantly the defensive of the two. He’s also in his peak years so wouldn’t get in the way of youngsters and he’s very physical so could handle the prem. Think a poor man’s Patrick Vieira

Id be gutted to lose Kamara but equally if they come in with a silly offer for him a year after we got him for free, after he missed half our games anyway last year, it would do wonders for FFP and we've already brought in a player who could take his spot comfortably in Tielemans. First option would be to keep him but I don't see a situation where Villa lose, they either get loads of money to reinvest or keep a quality player. He's not integral to the side yet though so if he's going to go this might be the best window to sell
