This is a very fair analysis of why United was struggling against Liverpool. There's a clear plan in place, there's a means of creating chances that are high xG, but the players are making ridiculously simple technical or mental errors that are so blindingly stupid that they can't possibly have been coached to do that. Like you said, you can tell everyone what to do and where to be, but you can't do it for them. The failings of United is that too many players are making careless errors that you simply don't get from other high level teams, whether because of lack of technical ability or lack of focus, which is why ANY tactical plan from the manager, regardless of who it is or will be, won't work properly. You could throw Guardiola in there, or Klopp, and there's only so much they'd be able to do to improve this team because they simply can't get players to execute plans properly.

It's an inherent coaching and system issue, we can't keep blaming the players. Rodri would struggle in this midfield when he he gets the ball and literally has no passing options when getting pressed by three opposition players.

Mazraoui and De Ligt have been good, Garnacho and Mainoo are excellent, Hojlund has been good, Lisandro was excellent, Onana has done way better than people give him credit for. Collyer looks like he could be a future hit, Zirkzee has promise, Ugarte is a smart signing. Even Casemiro had an excellent first season when he first came even though EVERYONE knows he wasn’t Ten Hag’s first choice. Anthony was a flop but has excellent defensive work rate and even one flop doesn’t negate the many other successes. The most famously mistake-prone ones are players like Rashford and Maguire who were here long before Ten Hag. People who point to Ten Hag’s number of signings forget that some of them were made AGAINST his wishes and were second, third choice signings back when Woodward was still in charge of things, as well as injuries meaning that the actual “first team” couldn’t even put together double digit performances across all competitions in a year.

@@kendrick6740 I'm not anti-ten Hag but that's a lot of fluff. Last game, Casemiro made mistakes. Zirkzee made mistakes. Lisandro made mistakes. Onana has made mistakes too this season. At some point, we have to see maybe it's not just the players but the system. Something is not adding up against big teams. We know what it is. United play very well for a spell. Then taper off. Because there's no in-game management by Ten Hag while the opponent switches it up. That's a key job of the manager and he's not done it well. The hope is Ruud and Jason Wilcox can help in this.

He's neither an exceptional long passer nor great with possession. Man Utd fans don’t have a grasp on reality. I’ve seen Man Utd fans suggest they should get rid of ETH because “ETH isn’t good enough to win the league with us”. Which is an insane comment to make. Of course he won’t win the league with you. You don’t go from finishing 8th to winning the league. Man Utd’s ambition should be finishing top 4 for 3 seasons in a row. Then you can look at challenging for 2nd. Once you’ve done that for a couple of seasons then you look to close the gap on 1st. And then when you’ve had two or three seasons closing that gap and are competing for the title. That’s when you can hire/fire a manager based on their title winning credentials. You’ve got a long way to go.

The difference between United and Liverpool is that at Liverpool it has been ingrained that we can only afford to buy potentials and coach them into a good system and improve their ability to deliver in that system. United has developed into a club that buys finished articles with developed strengths and put together to deliver winning moments. Coaching takes a back seat. A similar philosophy to Southgate's England. So it is impossible to compare United and Liverpool. If they had appointed the right manager and bought wisely, they'd be back on top in shorter time than it took Liverpool. The time graph comparison is useless.

Perhaps a little off topic, but here's a thought i have about erik ten hag and his Manchester United adventure. I feel that among his other challenges, is this one issue he has that's impeding his performance as manager of Manchester United. It is communication! From my observations, Erik speaks smattering English in a somewhat staggered manner. Now i know there have been quite a number of coaches in the premier League who had language barrier issues in the past and somehow found a way to work and still achieve some success or the other in conveying their thoughts and ideas to their staff and players. Erik however has a peculiar twist with his language obstacle, he struggles to communicate his thoughts in time, hence his words come out staggered. What this does is make him lose time which in football, especially fast paced live football, can be the difference between victory or defeat. During training sessions, this will not be much of an issue, because he can always stop whatever activity is ongoing at the time to get his point across to the individual(s) concerned. However during games, which more often than not, are moving at a very fast pace, when he has to respond faster to any issue he might feel needs addressing, that staggered way of communicating in English becomes a major problem. Before he can say this or that, it often is a little too late... I have observed that in their (Manchester United) recent games this season, they've tended to start relatively well, but as soon as the opposition figure them out and find ways to outthink or outsmart them in games, the coaching staff are usually slow in responding to what's going on on the pitch, hence a breakdown in communication that adversely affects the in-game management aspect of his coaching... A perhaps long winded write up just to say his in-game management is lousy due to poor communication skills... Just an observation

This whole situation shows why football should learn from sports like basketball. These situations are not sure to work out, but you can put certain players there who do it better than others. United for the last few years struggle with actually coaching these players. I get the manager gets a lot of stick But when you look at who they buy, they are proven good, or have potential to be good. Some players are bought too late on, Casemiro definitely is one of those. But the coaching of the players is failing too, I don’t think the media discuss just how crucial coaching is. As I’m watching this, JJ mentions coaching and I’m glad we thought the same

One other tactical thing to mention was the difference between Szoboslai and Fernandes and how they'd assist the team in buildup. Szoboslai was always open and drifting ballside to support the play at every opportunity while it seemed like Fernandes was told to stay higher towards the defensive line. If Bruno runs towards the ball to get involved Liverpool have more of a problem because it makes MacAllister and Gravenberch make a decision on who to mark. That same decision Liverpool made Casemiro make time and again and you saw the results.

Basically , TH wants to counter attack a lot…..and do it well…..but that’s what every team wants to do , yes? However , you have to do MORE than this and you can’t base an entire team strategy just on this surely ? It’s so precarious. Where’s the control of possession? Where’s the passing patterns ? Where’s the plan BCDEF ? Sometimes the counter attack just isn’t on , in fact most of the time it isn’t on. The top teams around Europe and in the PL will counter attack with quick risky passes when they get the opportunity , but they an also keep the ball for a while , or control the pace of the game , or press or something else. They also can defend really well when they need to. Are United just a one trick pony ?

There is a plan in place, except the issue is the plan does not fit the profile. This warrants the criticism of Ten Hag and hence the lack of identity. If you have a plan and fail to execute said plan, how can you expect people to recognize it? United should not play this type of football, and yet they do, because it's Ten Hag's system, a system very similar to Ajax. This is also the issue of not having a manager compatible with the squad.

The Man U management institutions was utterly destroyed by the Glazers and continued to operate in the destroyed state for several years. When Ten Hag came in there was little he could do to create a settled competitive team in the environment created by the Glazers. I didn't watch the whole of the presentation but up to where I watched no mention was made of the decimation of the club by the Glazers which Ten Hag inherited. In my view that is first on the list.. Having said that I am not impressed wirh the job done by Ten Hag to date.

The idea that it is really difficult, nay almost impossible(!), to replace a fantastic long-lasting manager is a bit of a canard. When Wenger left, Arsenal had already fallen. Emery didn't exactly oversee a massive drop in standards for Arsenal. Going back in history, Liverpool replaced not one, not two, but three fantastic managers in their long spell of dominance. Abroad, the likes of Real Madrid would probably be astonished to hear that it is so difficult to replace top drawer managers. What the claim actually boils down to is that Man United could not replace Ferguson... and that's about it. No-one else has remotely had the troubles Man United have had in sinking like a stone (despite spending more money than anyone else...) when a generational manager leaves. Man United don't need to copy Liverpool's long-term rebuild - they just need to run themselves like a moderately well run big club. The thing is, they've never really been that. They've essentially had two messianic managers in their entire history, and never really run themselves like a big club, with everything that goes with it. Instead, everything was abrogated to the messianic manager, and when that manager goes, the entire functionality of the club goes too, which is what you usually only see with small clubs punching above their weight. I can't think of another club in the world that is considered a 'big' club, that has only had success under so few managers. Man United are fairly unique in the world in that respect - and it's why all the other clubs are able to replace managers without the trouble Man United had after Busby, and now after Ferguson.

6:14 ......I always knew that back in RM, Case is known to have a poor passing ability. Hence why Kroos and Modric were always within range and line of sight...to anticipate a pass to Case or to receive a pass from Case........Case, Modric and Kroos worked well in tand3m in RM because Modric and Kroos picked up the slack and helped to turn Case's weakness to thei4 advantage because Case is limited......so he always look for Kroos and Modric....and not do something random. In manU, Case was isolated....and his fullbacks just did not bothered to help him out. Maybe the fullbacks were instructed by E7H to stay in their zone......because of Case calibre as a former RM player, he should be able to handle things himself. Guess this Liverpool game showed that the answer is a fat no. Just look at Case...😂 he lost weight.....he realised how tough EPL is. A couple of UCL against Liverpool and manCity does not equate to the other 18 EPL clubs😂😂😂
