Great video, wider gaps are seriously undervalued by a lot of welders. Worked in many 100% x-ray projects with great efficiency , 4-5 mm gap was always the way. keep it up brother

3mm gap for me if am doing stainless I put a 4mm gap in because soon as you start welding gap ends up 3mm anyway

When opening the gap with the grinder, are you ready beveling it as well. Or just using a 1/8 grinding rock and just pushing through

Good looking weld bud. I wanted to add one thing, the "color" does matter. There shouldn't be any color other than a straw gold. No blues, purples, ect., color is the outer layer oxidizing thats why we brush it off it will rust, all those colors is a sign that there was too much heat in it. This doesn't always matter on every job but color is not good and any QC I have ever had will make you brush it off. Good weld though 👌
@TheWeldLab4 жыл бұрын
yeah your def rite alot of place they make you brush it off ...i was just saying color of the insta/facebook picture lol

When your rooting it are you going way up the bevels, is that why it’s almost flush. And do you advice to go a good ways up the bevel on schedule 10
@respawnicon3 жыл бұрын
What do u think about running your amps at 120 or 130 for the root? I don't mean to go full pedal at those amps just to have extra in case you need it.
@mddenis13 жыл бұрын
How do you feed the wire? Do you use only thumb finger? You lean your hand on pipe or its floating in the air? You lean on tacks or bevel to avoid wire shaking? Thanks
@daftjedi53284 жыл бұрын
Might start using bigger gaps looks fun, I use a wedge to stop pipe shrinking at the moment
@TheWeldLab4 жыл бұрын
yeah i like big gaps because i rather backfeed i dont like to key hole i only use 1/8 gap when im doing roll outs

Great job. How much Cfh do you purge your pipe?
@TheWeldLab4 жыл бұрын
honeslty i dont know brother ...thats a good video idea tho..i usually just feel it with my finger as long as i feel pressure..and when you close the root you should turn it down you should barely feel it
@bcurrie95114 жыл бұрын
How come the shot of your root 0:42 is the same root run from 2G video faults and all? Is this the standard they except in the USA I should go there and would make a killing, If welding to Australian standards I should be able to charge a boss $100+/h. Another question, If at work and using pipe stands why not rotate the job to be at optimal position at all times if not in fixed position?

@christopherfoster37443 жыл бұрын
Hi ! Sch 10 you really don't need a gap,(other then to fit the pipe square and level )to weld it because the pipe is so thin you can just turn up you heat and melt the two bevels together if you want .
@ryanmcguinness7898 Жыл бұрын
Doesn't work on a positional unless you used pulse and put your amps about 150-155
@migueldomingues3739 Жыл бұрын
@@ryanmcguinness7898 yup , on a roller it’s possible to archive full fusion with no gap with low sch , but on a tuff position it’s better to have gap

You are a seasoned pipe welding sir This is way to advance for some new welders I wouldn't recommend back feeding with gap that large especially on Stainless to someone still learning.

Stainless steel should not have colour having colour on your weld means you're burning out the alloys that are joined to give stainless steel its compound ability to resist rust to high of a heat will burn out the chromium oxide so you need to set it at a mild working current which helps you to stay withing the heat range to protect the stainless metal
@TheWeldLab4 жыл бұрын
not necessarily i can control if i get colour by adjusting the aragon on my purge ..i work for alot of chemical plants and i never had them say they had a problem with colour cause of corrosion
