I had to remove the front and back wheels today to change tires. This is the first time I have done this on a bike since my RD250 in the 1980s. Way more complicated, but your video was perfect thank you. Keep up the great work!

Hey Muddy, your tutorial vids are excellent, very methodical and professional. Thanks for doing this series on the Tiger 800, I know my bikes mechanics so much better now. Way more fun to work on my Triumph. I think it makes you a better rider too learning more about your bike.

Wish I'd have watched this before I took off my wheel to put on a new chain. Had the adjuster block on upside down, went out for a short ride and turned back half way cause something was seriously up.. checked the adjuster notches and they were perfectly in line... but the adjuster bolt on the right was almost double the length of the one on the left. Came here to make sure i'd not put in a spacer wrong.. then it hit me. Be careful of this one anyone who takes off their wheel, it's easily done!

Hi, It was just normal grease. Stops the axle from seizing in. If you can find waterproof grease it would be better

Thanks for posting - I've been learning a bunch from your videos. I would ask though -- you left out the bit about adjusting the chain tension and re-setting the adjusters. Can you amend / post another video on how to adjust the chain tension and re-set the adjusters? If I understand correctly, the bike should be on the side-stand (vs center stand) in the video to properly measure chain tension.

Disassembled my rear wheel this evening, as I needed to switch the rear brake disk and pads. Your films were a good help. thx :) One little question though. You also mentioned some "copper grease" of "copper slip" at some point, adding it on the brake-pads. Can you give us more info on this? I used regular grease. Should that do OK? Funny thing ... I also have a Tiger 800 AND a DRZ400 :)
@MuddySump
@MuddySump 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Ludo thanks for the feedback. Copper grease works at higher temperatures and is an anti seize grease. Its actually used by the factory on some of the engine mounts. You should be able to find it in a automotive or hardware shop. The 2 bikes make a good combination :-)

Thank you, this is a very helpful video. Any advice on checking/ adjusting wheel spoke tension on a 2018 Tiger 800 xca? There's nothing at all mentioned in the owner's handbook, and the pitch varies when tapping the spokes with a spanner, as I've seen done on some videos. Many thanks in advance.
@MuddySump
@MuddySump 5 жыл бұрын
You adjust them with a spanner at the part that goes into the rim. Tapping the spokes with a spanner is how you tell if any are loose. Unless it’s sounds really flat like there’s no tension on the spoke I would just leave it.

Hi MuddySump, do you grease those wheel spacers at all before putting them back on?
@MuddySump
@MuddySump 5 жыл бұрын
It just attracts dirt and makes grinding paste between the spacer and the seal. Are your spacers falling out of the seals?

@@MuddySump The spacers seem ok. Other than one of them is scored pretty good, might have been from grease in there entrapping some dirt. I will keep the grease off of them.

Any particular brand/type of grease you like? I see in comments you mentioned water proof, but no luck just yet. Did find this. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XBH9HI/ref=pd_luc_rh_bxgy_01_04_t_img_lh?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - I found silicone spray for the cush drive as well. I googled but did not find out what the cush drive does?

Hi Muddy, First, thanks for all these videos, you're a lifesaver. I just took off my rear wheel to put on a new tire- now i'm having some trouble with the rear brake- It looks like the front pin is sticking, or that bracket isn't sitting right- but i just took everything out, greased it up and put it back on before I took the video. I bled the brake and there is almost no stopping power in that rear brake (but lots of heat) The first one you can see the bracket flexing when I pump the brake, the second video is a better angle of the bracket. Let me know if you've got any ideas. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i33bmZh4i7OMaas kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3fJepiVh6qkrMk

Is the bracket sat in the swinging arm properly? Is the little spring plate that’s in the top of the caliper in the right way ?

Hi there, thanks for getting back to me. I got it figured out. I had the front caliper pin cross-threaded, but i was able to get it out and put back in the right way.

Hi Dan French, I have the exact same problem at the moment, I think the issue is the front caliper pin just like you experienced. Got the pin back out with no drama's but each time I tightening the pin I start to feel resistance after a few turns, feels like its starting to cross-tread. Should I expect some resistance when tightening the pin or should I be able to tighten the pin by hand more than two or three turns before I need to use the socket? Thanks
@MuddySump
@MuddySump 6 жыл бұрын
Ian Hutch it should go in easy all the way. Try running a tap into the Caliper and a die on the pin to clean the threads. I’m pretty sure they’re 10mm by 1.0 pitch
@ianhutch1529
@ianhutch1529 6 жыл бұрын
MuddySump, you’re a gentleman, thanks for the quick reply. I've had the pin out and the treads on the pin and caliper both look okay, I’m just feeling resistance when tightening the pin. The pin goes in okay when the caliper is off the rail/ bracket, but when I try to tighten it to the rail/ bracket it doesn’t feel right. I’m starting to think it’s something to do with the rubber boot, although it looks okay too. I’m going to take the rear wheel off again and see will it go on without the wheel. As advised above, I’ll check the swing arm bracket and the little spring plate in the caliper. Cheers

These videos are great! I did notice some scoring on my left side spacer. Would I be correct in assuming this is the result of me not aligning the rear wheel correctly? Rick s1301.photobucket.com/user/raconnoly/media/Tiger/tires/9EFB726B-698C-4BA4-A0AC-B78F3A1D1EA5_zpsywcrk6es.jpg.html?sort=3&o=6

+Rick Connoly can't open pic on phone. it's probably just where dirt gets between the spacer and the seal. It's common, like grinding paste when it's spinning around.
