I'd like to thank you for giving such a good step-by-step guide. I've never really done this sort of thing on a car let alone a motorbike. The hardest thing for me was getting the sump plug out, it was super stuck and the other thing was getting the bike onto the centre stand as I've never done that. Once again, thanks.

I usually put a magnetized oil drain plug in my engines if they don't come standard. I don't expect to see any metallic debris when I change the oil, but if I do I know there is a problem. Hopefully, I can catch a problem before there is catastrophic damage.

@@bikerstuff2 How often do you change the oil in bikes, is it based on miles or time (months)?

Yes, it's based on miles, but if it's several years old, it won't do any harm charging it. It's not expensive

I fill the filter to around half, mostly to moisten dry filter material. At half, it doesn't leak when installing.

Don't bother, your engine has a pump to do it for you. If you're unsure, contact the dealer and ask their mechanics if they do it.

Excellent tutorial Dana. Have you considered using 3/8" drive sockets? They deliver finer control to your fingertips, and are less likely to 'graunch' nuts & bolts on your bike. I rarely use the 1/2" sockets, unless it's needed. Lovely smile, BTW!

If you strap down when it’s on the lift you should be ok and if it falls on the ground, they are quite easy to pick up, as the centre of gravity is low down and they are well balanced. Just use the proper technique and all will be well.

At 87,000miles it is clear the bike has been well used. I assume past owners have been content to leave it filthy or the factory finish is of poor quality at Triumph. With a bit of TLC it should never be looking in that state. A good point about painting the oil filter but I can't say mine has ever rusted like that on any of my bikes. A good video for anyone starting off with DIY maintenance.

11:55 You are a left hand trained Person? I am astonished, that in GB a lot of all day things are just opposit to our normal way of use on the continent: the door of the garage in the background and of course, the traffic on the streets and on the railway tracks too. - This trained right hand use since childhood here in Germany caused a bad accident near Bundaberg in Australia: the son of a neighbour lost his life after the early morning start with a car to reach his backpacker-job on the cotton field their. Not in his mind in this moment on a country road: „Keep left!“
