I look at this swing and it looks pretty good to me. He went on to win 5 times in 2013, was POY, and regained the number one spot in golf. Later, tiger said that he couldn't get into the positions that Foley wanted, and some blamed Foley for his injuries. I think the previous injuries affected his ability to swing like Foley wanted, and I believe Tiger liked the Foley swing. I think I read that the reason he went to Foley was because he liked Justin Rose's swing. People were blaming Foley for stuff that happened before Tiger went to Foley.
@Brandon-yf3tz7 жыл бұрын
Foley's players have a history of back problems. When I saw Tiger swinging like this I knew he was eventually going to hurt his back. The swing itself is okay, not great. He constantly was only able to hit fades, lost his ability to control his ball. Definitely the worst swing method he's ever gone with, and I believe this decision ruined his career. It's looking like he will never regain his health.

When Tiger first started working with Foley I admit I thought it was going to be horrible, like a complete stack and tilt. I have to say I'v had to eat my words. His swing looks so solid and easily repeatable when I watch it now, all the angles are great and he obviously hits it straighter off the tee considering his driving accuracy now.

How big were the fades and how high/low was he hitting them? I curious as to what exactly Tiger's new ball flight is. Because when I saw him at the BMW his trajectory was a great deal lower than I had expected.
@shredx8111 жыл бұрын
Ball shaping is totally down to inside-out/outside-in swing plane & set up. If a table tennis player performs an inside to out top spin strike of the ball, the ball will go left no matter where the ball touches his paddle & vice versa. I actually tee my driver up lower to get more consistency out the middle of the club face. I guarantee most amateurs who tee the ball high aren't naturally hitting a high draw. They are ballooning it up & right.

Tiger’s Foley swing was painful to watch whether it was his adaptation of his theory or whether it was Foley’s, it was readily apparent that this swing put undue pressure on his fragile back. Tiger’s Ryder Cup record is not very good he does have a winning singles record but the matches he won were low ranked players.

@KaiserVonWilhelm18 жыл бұрын
Caption said he was hitting fades, I think he was probably trying to over-accentuate fading the ball. Foley had him primarily drawing the ball, much more than the 2-3 yard draw he preferred most of his career. If you pause any of these swings at the top, though the camera angle is off a little, the face of the club is definitely closed. And I think that causes those really terrible snap hooks that was his bad miss all the time
@rektspresso72888 жыл бұрын
Clubface position at the top is exclusively determined by grip strength and degree of extension or flexion (cupping or bowing) of the left wrist at the top. Aside from that, many players with very strong grips (and consequently closed clubfaces) primarily play fades. Good examples include: Tiger, Lee Trevino, Bubba Watson, Jason Dufner, David Duval, etc. Having a "closed" clubface at the top does not exclusively lead to a right-to-left ball flight
@jonb24378 жыл бұрын
+Rektspresso Tiger played a neutral grip for the majority of his career...

+Rektspresso true - it was on the stronger side in amateur and early pro. he went neutral on Butch Harmon 2.0. i would say he went strong again w/ Foley. he played with a lot of shaft lean with that swing

PGA golfers don't try to fix their swing the day of a round, they have to learn to play with it because fixing a swing of this caliber takes longer than an amateur on the web tour. These althletes are so specific and perfects, hitting the ball 1 cm left of ss means 14 yard differences down the fairway (varies with club)

I am convinced and CERTAIN that Tiger can surpass Jack's major count. All he has to do is use this open stance for all shots . His irons and putting stroke has proved to be world beating using this slight cut-stroke.I am seeing in your vid that with the driver and 3 wood Tiger can do what ever he wants to the ball IF his left hip has cleared through impact. IT IS THAT SIMPLE. open stance enables that . Just ask Lee Trevino

Jamie, I haven't heard such rubbish in a long time, tiger even admits he's never hit the ball better, and has never understood his game to the extent he does now, his major performance of late has nothing to do with the "swing Sean has given him".. It's about tiger rediscovering what it was that set him apart from the ROW pre 2010! Sean has done nothing but improve Tiger. He's just had an awesome year! Give him and his team some credit! When you win a major and are as close to Sam Sneads all time record by age 38, you may comment on such a matter with experience, not blind opinion!
@SingMeSomethingGood8 жыл бұрын
+Dominic Narramore How funny this comment looks now. Tiger broke 70 TWICE in majors under Foley in five years! In his golfing prime (his 30s) on courses he had previously owned in the majors (eg, Valhalla, Pebble Beach, the Old Course). No doubt, if he doesn't catch Jack's record, it will go down in history as Tiger becoming obsessed with his swing mechanics and going to the Stack&Hack of Foley that was his ultimate undoing.

Sean Foley I believe, can blamed almost exclusively in Tiger's lapse in the majors. He has given Tiger a swing that, sure, when the 25 things Tiger is thinking about are working and being timed perfectly, it's great! But... that kind of swing WON'T WIN MAJORS. He has taken the World's most talented, idolized, and revered golfer, and turned him in to an over-analytical "tinkerer", and I can't believe, CAN NOT BELIEVE, that Tiger hasn't fired this idiot. Golf Digest top 3 my ass. He's a joke.

This swing is pure junk. It's why he only broke 70 twice in the majors with Foley in five years. Look how far away he's standing at 12:04 with his driver, he's reaching for the ball. Not how he swung his entire life, with Haney, or with Butch. This S&T Foley swing works for some, but it wasn't for Tiger, and Tiger was too stubborn and stuck with it for way too long. He won nine times in 2009 with Haney, won Player of the Year, won at an astounding rate with Haney, then changed his swing to Foley's in his golfing prime (his 30s) and that's why he didn't get Jack's record.
@jonb24378 жыл бұрын
exactly why he has back problems now. he over exerted and exaggerated body movements to generate club head speed. he changed too much with Tiger's swing. he should have just made subtle changes like he did with Justin Roses and Hunter's swing
@trenton57458 жыл бұрын
In his only healthy season while under the guidance of Sean which was 2013 Tiger was the recipient of the PGA Tour player of the year award as well as the leading Money winner on the tour. All of his wins took place in tournaments that are generally regarded as the tours biggest besides the Majors. He was leading the Masters up until he got the worst break of his career when his approch on the par 5 hit the flag stick and found its way into the water hazard resulting in a subsequent two stroke penalty that lokely caused him to drop and finish in 4th place. After he won the Players he sustained an elbow injury which resulted in a poor showing at the US open. Tiger then went on to nearly win The Open Championship. When he won the Bridgestone he nearly shot 59 in the second round finishing with a 61 which tied his carrer best. If Sean were able to work with a Tiger Woods who wasnt constantly injured there is no telling what the duo would have been able to accomplish. Remember Sean did take Justin Rose under his wing and some would say revitalized his career and golf game.

Couldn't agree more. If Foley had gotten a healthy Tiger, we would have seen a far more successful Tiger.
@jonb24378 жыл бұрын
+Trenton J Tiger has came out and said multiple times that he was winning that year bc he KNEW the courses so well... NOT bc he was swinging well. If Tiger didn't switch to Foley there's no doubt he would still be playing without severe back issues. Thanks Foley.
@TheBgoodheyhey8 жыл бұрын
His back issues came from multiple swing changes over the course of a career at the highest sport, swinging harder than most of us could, and natural age. Also, his favoring of his left knee meant that he couldn't swing the way Harmon and Haney wanted him to anymore anyway. Harmon is a class-A coach, and Haney is despised and overrated. Foley is considered odd but respected, and well liked. His ideas are much more common now as things like Trackman make their way more and more into the highest echelon of golf. Foley gave Tiger a swing that allowed him to hit the ball farther than before with his irons even though his overall swing speed dwindled. Foley took a body that wasn't what it used to be and gave it a swing that could let it do what it always did: hit golf balls pure. Also let's not forget that nearly all the commentors loved Tiger's Foley swing when he was winning, the naysayers came out when he was losing. Same was said about Haney's swing adjustments to Tiger until he started winning. You can say it, but it doesn't make it true.
@jonb24378 жыл бұрын
so sad how Sean Foley gave the shittiest swing to the world's greatest golfer
@marinettekozlow79266 жыл бұрын
Foley in my opinion is the worst teacher in the game. He is way to complicated for Tiger. It's a golf swing not a golf position. What other sport where you swing a bat or racket are you trying to get into a position to hit it. Leadbetter and Foley are the worst. They have ruined more players than they have helped. Wie, Ko are two prime examples. Ko was smart enough to get away from him before he did any real damage. Not Wie. Her swing is so mechanical now and she's no where near as good.
