I love how Scott is more afraid of BamBam the dog than of the tiger! Feeding the tiger, letting her smell/lick? his face through the cage. I doubt he'd be willing to do that with BamBam. :D

Great respect to the anesthesiologist. As soon as he realized she was waking it wasn’t about the show, it was hands on for the needed drs and safety so they could be solely focused on her. He was there for the job of keeping her safe and alive and thats all he worried about.

BamBam is a special case due to something unpleasant in the past, but as long as his owner keeps over-reacting, BamBam will continue to over-react. He can't heal emotionally until she changes how she is behaving. It's definitely not BamBam's fault. Thank goodness that Scott is so patient and understanding with him.

he only freaks out once shes gone. there was a case in another episode where the dog was becoming anxious because of its owners' reactions, and it calmed down as soon as they left. either way, I think it's rude to blame owners based of pure speculation, especially when you're not a professional and you don't know the full story

Re Bambam - I had a small fluffy dog just like Bambam once. His owner went into bankruptcy and asked me if I could "mind" him for a while until she got on her feet again. She never came back for him. I was glad though because he became very attached to my mum who was able to be home with him all day. Unfortunately he came to us with a lot of baggage, if he was lying on the floor and you went to step over him he would scream and jump up and run. He was half Maltese Terrier and half Miniature Schnauzer. When I met him he was a walking knot as he had never been bathed or brushed so had to be shaved. Bathing him at home was a nightmare, he fought me the whole way but I found a wonderful groomer who was fabulous and had all the equipment to help her. When I met him he was an "outside" dog who had no interaction with other dogs or people and was fed table scraps off peoples' plates and no proper nutrition. The back yard was paved, no grass to be seen anywhere and when it rained he would crouch under a sappling in a corner of the yard. I was appalled at his treatment. He was quite often in hospital with pancreatitis - thankfully we had pet insurance which helped. I didn't have to wonder what his life had been like, I witnessed the neglect first hand. Mum passed away in 2012 and he followed 2 yrs later, in pain, blind and half deaf at age 15. I cried and cried. Dogs will take on their owners' personality. Bambam certainly has picked up his owner's anxiety which is now a problem for him. If she needed to take a couple of tranquilisers just to pick him up it's no wonder he is like he is. She needs to get it together because her behaviour is to the extreme and is not helping the situation.

Absolutely! Someone either very cruel, or very ignorant, taught that poor dog that the only way to be safe around humans is to bite. Someone has repeatedly ignored all the warning signs a stressed and worried dog gives off, from body language to vocalisation, people have blown past his boundaries, and the only thing that ever worked was to strike. This is how innately gentle, loving beings are turned into "dangerous dogs", and it takes brave, gentle, loving humans with the patience of a saint, and nerves of steel to have a hope of rehabilitating them. The people who do this to animals make me sick, and all too often they walk away with no repercussions, go straight out and do the same thing again. Vile.

@katbairwell
@katbairwell Жыл бұрын
@@dharter100 It is so easy for owners with anxious dogs to get into a negative feedback loop, where the owner is anticipating reactivity, and dogs being very sensitive to the emotions of their people end up more anxious. Poor Bam Bam clearly has a lot of baggage from his past life which is driving reactivity, I would love them to have some time with a clinical behaviourist to identify, and develop solutions to, the sources of Bam Bam's issues. But you are absolutely right, the owner's own worry and stress can easily further stress the dog, so hopefully that's something Dr Scott can help them work through!

When my cat had to stay at the vet clinic for quite awhile (sewn-in catheter, ruptured bladder and severe UTI), he was calm while sick, aside from the occasional hiss. Once he started feeling better, he was hissing, yowling, and swiping at the staff. Vet called me to come get him out of the cage because he wouldn't let them come near, he wouldn't even come out if they walked away with the door open. He heard my voice and took off towards the lobby, and launched himself at me. I felt so bad for him and the staff, but they didn't blame us, because him having the energy and strength to put up a fight meant he was improving. Lots of tears that morning.

Aww--poor Bambam! I wonder if he'd behave differently by having the groomer come to him? Then he'd at least be in a familiar place already. I'm a bit surprised a tiger would have that claw issue; granted that they're cats, but does this mean they shed claw sheathes? My first cat had this same thing happen to her, only we didn't catch it until it was well into her paw pad (can't recall whether she was limping or licking it, but we noticed the blood on her white "sock")! Luckily, it did not become infected. Had to take her to the vet, and she was fine afterwards; the vet showed us how to trim her claws, so it didn't happen again.

Great video. Poor BamBam, but as they said he was worse when this lady got him, I'm glad they match. As for the tigers, I was lucky to receive 'hands on' training at Cat Tails, a refuge with a variety of lions, tigers and other wild cats. They even had some rare clouded leopards. In Mead, Washington, close to Spokane, in the early 90s. I was a Humane Officer in WallaWalla. I truly love animals and respect them as they are. Found I'm no 'Whisperer' though. Their adult male Siberian, casually standing with paws on chain link fence, (not at all stretched) and I at 5'1 didn't even reach his diaphragm! Massive cat. When they chuff, with a bit of voice, it goes through your organs. I fed him a bucket of chicken pieces. The cubs we handled were extremely strong, too. The problem then was people getting exotic pets in Seattle, then finding they couldn't keep them properly. Two ligers they had were from a small circus that had not kept them well. Good place and people that rescue animals like that, and give them as close to a natural home as possible. At the other end of the state (and spectrum) was 'Wolfhaven' . 👍💙💖🥰✌

4:22 It’s important to remember that BamBam is not being aggressive because he’s just evil inside or just wants to hurt Scott. BamBam’s aggression comes from fear and with most dogs that’s where their aggression comes from whether BamBam doesn’t feel confident with strangers or just doesn’t feel confident in a new environment he’s just fearful and using aggression as a way to get people to back off. If a dog snapped at you what are you gonna do most likely back away and say oh that dog is aggressive. I don’t wanna go near them what I like about Scott is he remembers that BamBam’s aggression is from fear not just pure aggression. There’s always a reason for a dogs, aggression and nine times out of 10. It’s going to be fear whether that is actual fear from mistreatment or just fear from the lack of confidence that’s why it’s so important when your dog is a puppy to introduce them to new things and get them used to new things when they’re a puppy and their mind is open to new experiences and always make sure the experience is a pleasant one that way your dog grows up with confidence❤

It really is the responsibility of a dog owner to learn how to care for them. The inspections that occur with grooming can keep them healthy, plus the dog wouldn't need anesthesia for basic cleaning. Who would have a baby and then refuse to learn how to care for it? I had a Maltese-Shih Tzu mix and groomed her myself. Her haircuts were not that great, but she was free of matting and I always knew what was going on with her skin, etc. They don't care about being beautiful, they just want to be comfortable and healthy. I would not be as forgiving about stressing the importance of her learning how to do this herself.

BamBam's owner needs proper medical treatment and therapy. A calm vet assistant by her side a few hours a week would help.

Scott should talk with Cesar milan the dog whisperer.. that's what dogs do feed off your fears. They respond to actions and assertiveness. Not no. With passive gestures. They sense it. Fortunately u are a vet not a dog trainer. But the method works. ❤

Bambam should be muzzled by the owner whenever outside of home. Especially before handing this biter over to people trying to help the owner.

Why doesn't Bam Bams owner learn how to do a basic clip herself? Itd be preferable to constantly putting him under.

What most people don't know: trauma causes brain damage and Bambam may not even be able to control it considering what he has been through. His brain just signals danger. ❤ Especially when your owner gets nervous as well.

AWWW! Poor puppy. 4:50 far be it form me to give advice to a vet, or a groomer. However will anyway. Bite Proof Animal Handling gloves, that go all the way up the forearm. I volunteered in animal rescue, and I had a side business rescuing rattlesnakes from peoples. With rattlesnakes no problem, only had one or two try to strike, only when they are extremely cornered after a bit of a chase. Dogs and cats whole other thing. A pair of Bite Proof Animal Handling Gloves and you are set, I've had dogs latch on barely feel a thing, no broken skin, and gives time enough to grab the scruff and employ a muzzle without use of drugs. My pair was even rated for Falconry. Never got around to that though.
