I don't find it amazing. Earl was his first coach. It would be amazing if he didn't mention him.
@siletamus20163 жыл бұрын
@@cluman1 I remembered watching a documentary in which Earl said as soon as Tiger started beating him at golf he told Tiger that he had nothing more to teach him and they started looking for a coach. Remember Earl senior was not a trained professional and neither was he an exceptional golfer. The coaches that came after him were at least one of the 2. I'm sure they taught him many things that would have been contradictory or enhanced his father's teachings.... what I'm amazed is that besides that he still references his father's teaching.
@aaronsmith79463 жыл бұрын
@@siletamus2016 No no. The things Earl taught Tiger were things about the game Earl already understood and had both read about and consulted others about. When yous ay he was not "an exceptional golfer," you are right but I am pretty sure Earl had about a 4-5 handicap and this is enough to teach a young boy the basic fundamentals of a golf swing. However, I do not think Early taught Tiger any specific mechanics that may have hurt Tiger's ability to adapt when he got a swing coach. Earl's teachings were the basic, obvious things about the golf swing we all understand such as extension and how to create length, tempo and balance and an incredible short game. I also think Earl spent a lot of time working with Tiger on things that could not be taught but experienced and learned from such as recovery shots and imagination. I also think Earl worked on really working on his mental attitude which is always the main difference between two seemingly equal looking golfers. Early knew that Tiger was going to deal with racism very early on and was trying to prepare him for that more than anything as at a young age that is the type of thing that can make a kid give up as they feel like they don't belong. There were he more important lessons for him. He also taught him focus which was he was always doing things to try to distract Tiger when he was swinging. This culminated in Tiger both learning how to channel people out (even though people who loved him) as a necessity and I think Tiger learned to not give a shit about stopping in his backswing when someone tried to distract him. As a Green Beret, these are the types of things he could teach Tiger but when it came to swing mechanics, Tiger was till very young when he got a formal coach.

Tiger Woods is one of the most amazing people to have ever graced this Earth. In my view, the greatest to ever touch a golf club. And what he has done for the game of golf is absolutely astounding. He has transformed the sport like nobody has ever done or ever will do. Every aspect of this game, from amateur to pro, has evolved like nothing else, all because of Tiger Woods. Perhaps the only other person I can think of who has been able to do such a thing, would be Michael Jordon, but even he probably didn't do as much for basket ball as Tiger had done for golf. Both are amazing people, but I think Tiger has the edge there too. I have followed Tiger on course, had brief words at times. When he's not in competition, like on a practice day, he's quite gracious. During competition, forget it, he is in the zone and the gallery doesn't even exist to him. Absolutely amazing focus, like nobody I have ever seen. That's why he was so successful at winning. He has been my golf inspiration for decades. He's the whole reason why I played amateur competitive golf for 30 years (quite successfully). If I have a sports hero, Tiger Woods is definitely that hero.
