Coach, As someone who is around your program a lot, I have the utmost respect for Clemson University, The Athletic Program and leadership and the utmost respect for you and the hard work you have put into this football program. I hate that you are having to field these types of calls and comments from fans that lack an understanding of football as a whole and only look at the scoreboard. The men you build and the class in which you go about your business is second to none. With you at the helm of Clemson's Football program, best is truly the standard! Clemson only had one top 10 class in the four years prior to the first championship Dabo won and never had a top 5 in the years prior to his second title. IMO the issues they have now are primarily due to coaching hires, not talent.

@@SeminoleSpaceForce Thanks for the correction as I was wrong about the top 3 recruiting classes. However, according to 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN, prior to winning the championship in the 2016 season, Clemson (Dabo) had recruiting class rankings of #8, 10, 12, 15, 10 and 11. That's 3 top 10 classes and 6 top 15 classes overall. Surprisingly, the 2017 class was only ranked #16 and the 2018 class was ranked #7 as they won the championship again in the 2018 season. Since 2018, they been ranked #9, 2, 5, 10 and 10 (2019-2023). They had a great run of 6 playoff appearances, 4 championship appearances and won 2 championships from the 2015-2020 seasons! The problem is since the 2020 season, with 2 top 5 classes and 5 top 10 classes overall, Clemson has finished the season #14, #13 and currently #44 during a 4-4 campaign and will likely make a bowl game. That's a great fall and is unacceptable with those level of recruiting classes. On another note, you don't think it's a lack of talent? The QB was a high recruit, but his production on the field is only so-so. Look at their receiving core. Those guys are barely 2nd and likely 3rd on the depth chart of a really good college football team.

@@dashobi my bad about the ranking. I only use the 247 composite since it incorporates all the major ranking services. It's always a bit of both when it comes to coaching vs talent, but I think the bigger issue is coaching cause Clemson has landed enough 4 stars over the last 4 recruiting cycles to be competent offensively. If you want to be elite offensively then you do need elite talent, but also elite coaching (see Texas A & M for example), but Clemson looks incompetent on offense and they have more than enough talent to look competent. You do get busts sometimes and you get injuries, but any recruiting in the top 15 like Clemson should have enough talent to overcome busts and injuries in order to produce a competent offensive product. So if it's generally agreed by the ranking services that you have enough talent, then there's only one answer and that's coaching. You've had a lot of coaching turnover since the last title and that can impact culture and the product on the field. Did he let the new OC make his own position coach hires? If he didn't, then imo that's a bad sign cause usually an OC has an idea of who knows his system and shares his philosophy so he'd get position coaches that know how to get the kids to execute the system from the blocking scheme to the routes to QB reads etc. I don't think he's letting Riley cook cause he's stated he brought him in to coordinate the "Clemson offense" like that's even a thing. Clemson hasn't invented a unique offensive system, so what exactly is he asking Riley to do? Hey Riley, just do what these other guys who are no longer here were doing. We've got some guys on staff who did it with those other guys, but they don't know enough to do it themselves (or else we'd have them as the OC), but they'll help you do it? It's BS and won't work. He needs to let go and hand control of the offense over to his OC. He needs to allow him to bring in his own hires at least for a few positions. That's just my outsider arm chair analyst opinion.

Dabo is right. There's a reason he's getting the big bucks. He's produced. Twelve years in a row with ten plus wins. That speaks for itself. So it seems to me that Dabo has earned enough capital to be forgiven a down year. So, going forward, we'll see if this is just a blip on the radar. To some degree it seems that he's a victim of his own success. Clemson has been so good that now the standard is nothing but championship football. And when that doesn't happen, naturally the fans ask, "what's going on?" It's also clear that this year is getting to Dabo. He's hyper sensitive when confronted by the fans. But he should be above the fray. Just let the criticism flow off like water. For the most part Clemson's problem this year is obvious: His talent level is down. There's no Trevor Lawrence. There's no Desean Watson. They don't have the receivers like Watkins, nor do they have the talent on defense that they had five years ago. Coaching losses have hurt. Brent Venables was the best defensive coach in college football. He's not easily replaced. Dabo has a lot of work to do. So stay tuned.

I didn’t know about this situation until today, but one thing is for sure. I have a lot of respect for Dabo as a coach. Toxic fans like Tyler are what worries me about when my Dawgs eventually start losing a few games in a season. You can truly tell between real fans who were rooting for a team since they were mediocre and the spoiled fans who hopped on the bandwagon once the team started winning championships. The lack of appreciation is appalling and just speaks to the entitlement and privilege that can occur within a fanbase. No coach is immune to having bad seasons. Every coach has disappointing seasons but it’s up to us as sports fans to acknowledge/accept that without trash talking the coach who’s led your team to more success than you’ve ever thought you’d see in your lifetime.

When you destroyed Virginia in the ACC championship game a few years back Clemson fans were as classy as any fans that I've ever experienced. Really wonderful. I’m quite sure Dabo has a long leash at Clemson as he should. He’s going to have to get a grip with the portal because it’s a thing. My guess is once the season is over you’re going to see some new assistant coaches in Death Valley. There’s a lot of talent on this team that’s either not panning out or just not putting out. The O line should not be this inept and the offensive play calling has been predictable and unimaginative. Cade is making poor decisions, to put it mildly, and his turnovers are killing them and plenty of others are doing it too. The place kicking issue is a head scratcher that I can’t figure out why it didn’t get sorted before the season other than, you know, portal. I’m just hoping this season doesn’t hurt recruiting too much and things get back on track next year.

FSU fan here. Honestly don’t know why Dabo gets the hate he gets. He’s a genuine guy and he’s absolutely right here. Fans gotta stop taking this stuff personally-there’s no chance you’re more passionate about this stuff than the guys that line up on the field to play, and the guys who coach those guys on the field. Your job as a fan is to appreciate and cheer. You can be guaranteed that you’re not bringing up stuff the coaches haven’t thought about a million times over. Been an FSU fan my entire life. Met dabo at an atlanta braves game in a concession line. He was by himself, eating where all the normals eat, and had no problem giving handshakes and talking to fans. Very down to earth guy. Parents should want their kid to play for someone like him. Coming from a die hard UGA fan too.

One thing I have to say about this caller is he has no idea what it takes to run a program and it’s not just about football. It’s about after football it’s like Dabo has said. he is getting the young man ready for life because not everybody can make it in the pros and if they don’t make it in the pros and they don’t get their education what have they accomplished I mean I have a great deal of respect for what he does and his believes and he can believe one thing that this fan is behind him 150% he is accomplished something that very few had accomplish and even if I was to call and talk to him one thing we don’t talk about is what he he gets paid as a coach that is his business and his business alone nobody else’s if I have a chance, I will call and just be able to talk to him and let him know that there is fans like me out there that are behind him no matter what. We are lucky to have him as our coachand I will be there as a fan for him and our young man that are representing Clemson. Count our blessings. The Lord has blessed us.

They dominated their conference for a decade and won 2 nattys. I would say the man has earned the money he has made. As a diehard Ohio State fan and as someone who isn’t a Dabo fan, I am 100% a fan of what his response was to that caller. Dabo said his truth and he’s right. You win a title or TWO and fans expectations start becoming borderline unreachable. 4 losses in a szn for a school like Clemson is bad, really bad but sometimes teams just don’t click for whatever reason. Clemson has a top 5 roster in all of CFB but they just don’t click as a unit. For whatever reason it’s been a very bad szn BUT I believe Dabo has earned the right to have 1 of these really bad seasons.

I feel sad for this team and the fans for all we expected. Sam Hartman is a fine young man who might have single-handledly tanked his NFL prospects or padded his wallet with some insider trading. Regardless, I feel for the young man. He had a bad day. An epic bad day. He had little help. The team played poorly. Clemson played an outstanding game. They outplayed ND in every phase. Hats off to Dabo for a great win. I respect the man and I am pretty happy that ND made him the top winner in Clemson history. Well done!! ND didn't show its best today. You can count yourself as a class act yourself sir. I’m a die hard Clemson fan, I’ve heard the touchdown cannon from my front porch for 35 years, my daughter hears it. There’s fans like me who’d never consider giving up, and there’s the guys like Tyler who calls in and they got onboard after the first national championship win and started wearing the orange, I have tiger t-shirts from 1975 and jerseys I still wear! Dabo is the best of the best and I’m sure sorry he has to hear the things he hears, but I think he knows deep down exactly what matters to the real people. ND scared me a few times, it’s not a game we can win every single week, and it’s sad there’s people who think we should just because they spent $80 on a hoodie. 😂

What Dabo has done for Clemson goes beyond football and the university. It extends to the businesses like bars and definitely liquor stores. When we play at home, lots of fans travel and stay in or around Clemson. While Dabo was winning on the football field, he was also raising up a rural community with little economic output and the entirety of the fanbase with it. I went to school on Mondays smiling ear to ear because our Tigers won. That's thanks to Dabo and the rest of the coaching staff for being amazing. If Dabo never wins another game, he'll be my favorite coach of all time.
