There are many clashes between armored vehicles that took place on the Eastern Front during WWII. Some of them, such as the Battle of the Kursk during Operation Citadel, featured the participation of an impressive number of tanks. However, there is a famous skirmish that entered military history thanks to the autobiography "Tigers in the Mud" by tank commander Otto Carius. The book describes in detail the battle fought on July 22, 1944 near the village of Malinava between the Wehrmacht Tigers and the Soviet T-34 and IS-2 tanks. Carius attacked the Soviet troops, already occupying the village, in order to recapture Malinava and accelerate the enemy's advance west. The speed of the German actions caught the Soviet tanks by surprise. In just half an hour, Carius and his partner Kerscher shot down 17 enemy tanks, including the new IS-2 heavy tank.
