On June 13th, 1944, in the French town of Villers-Bocage, south of Normandy hidden in the bushes a beast stalks its prey. A Tiger tank of the 2nd Company of the 101st SS Heavy Panzer Battalion. Standing atop its cupola is the most decorated German Panzer ace in history; Lieutenant Michael Wittmann aka The Black Baron. A reckless attack or a daring tank battle. Wittman's actions at Villers Bocage became disputed and legendary. There are many sources that conflict for this story but we tried to pull together a narrative from the many sources that are out there. Any errors are our own.

That to is disputed. Evidence seems to suggest that a Canadian 75mm destroyed Wittman's Tiger while the British Firefly destroyed the other 3 Tigers with him.

A video about Otto Carius and the first documented shooting down of a plane with a tank would be good to see. Carius leveled the tank and his gunner shot down the plane with the main gun. That was in Russia in 1943 I think. Carius died in 2014 at the age of over ninety. He had a pharmacy called Tiger pharmacy and in it he had a lot of models of Tigers, Panthers and Tank Destroyers. He started out as a loader in a Panzer 38 and worked his way up to commander. He was one of the first to be fitted with the Tiger. At the end of the war he commanded a Jagdtiger.Carius had notable success as a Tiger tank commander

The animation and some of the expressions are biased and intentionally portray the person as evil. @@Glenn-kc5eu Not really. Tigers and Panthers were rare in the 1944-45 period of WW2. The Stuart is a good light tank, meant for reconaissance purposes. Probably a bit of infantry support too. They could always just back away from the battlefield and ask for air support and boom. Tiger gets destroyed by aerial 6 pounder AT strike by a ground attack aircraft lol.

Yeah the details of this event in the video are not entirely accurate. The British didn’t have an accurate report and the Nazis put out propaganda to make wittman look better then he was the event and some details did happen but not the way it was written. Very enjoyable video. Love the WW2 content💯

Very interesting and good video. Micheal Wittman managed to make a calculated and tactical answer in a short time. Attacking the front and rear vehicles of the column and then picking of the enemy in the middle. The British caught completely by surprise, were dealt a heavy blow. With the victory at Villers-Bocage, the Germans managed to plug in the gaps in their frontlines. The Battle for the Normandy countryside would continue. Godspeed to both sides, British and her command wealth and the Germans. May they Rest In Peace in the soft grazing farmlands of Normandy. Overall very well made animation video. Good stuff. 👍

Cannons actually do have a minimum range of engagement where they are heated up in the barrel and don't have enough time to cool down. I think it's usually maybe something like 50-150m maybe?

Ive seen an interview with several survivors of this battle on an old WW2 History channel doco. This is the story that got me hooked on Mark Felton's channel about a squillion years ago now lol. Wittman and his gunner, matched with Tiger tank were really, seriously OP.

Amazing work, and hats off to the whole Yarnhub crew for not being afraid to admit that there is not enough evidence to rule out the errors. This is something I've noticed long ago, around the time "God's Rambo and his Ghost Camaro" was released. You guys know that with history, having not been here, having often incomplete knowledge about the event, some details lost to bias, propaganda and time itself, and you always point out there may be mistakes, there may be lack of details, something may have been overlooked. You truly do your best work with those videos! Keep it up, you've easily become my favourite history channel, and it seems it will stay that way! Immediate quick edit; Also how could I forget, the constant improvements in the animation are absolutely amazing, you must have some of the hardest working animation teams, these guys do not fail ;)

What always amazes me is inflated stories of valor when there are many that go untold and they truly deserve it! An amazing story about heroism and valor for a true patriot that deserves to be more well- known is the story of Witold Pilecki.

Brilliant video which captures the essence of the battle admirably. Wittman was killed in Normandy but his body and that of his crew wasn't discovered until decades later. They're buried together in the German cemetery in Normandy - I've stood by his grave as his story was known to me and I felt that I needed to do that. This story aptly illustrates the fact that when serviceable the Tiger tank was a deadly adversary which greatly outmatched allied tanks at the time - the key word is serviceable though......

I'm surprised that the standard advice for tackling Tigers (unless you were a Firefly) wasn't to aim for the tracks. Once immobilised the Tiger is virtually helpless, well done for the 6 pounder crew for figuring that out.
