Loved diving this place a few weeks ago! I REALLY want to go back again as well. Tami had shown us the map the night before and I realized how tight it was... everywhere. I didn't sleep much that night and was a little concerned how I would feel about being in something that tight for that long even though I'm not claustrophobic. The next day I was still questioning this until I entered the cave. My reservations evaporated. I loved every second of it. It was my favorite dive of the weekend (Boiling Spring, Roubidoux, Cannonball and Mine La Motte). Not a very long cave, but it was just such a cool experience and place. Tight, tons of fish, lots of flow. Riding that flow out was a blast too. No swimming required! Thanks for putting this video together. Love watching them and appreciate your commentary and thought process during your dives.

Hahaha. Someone besides Charlie who knows exactly what I’m talking about. Lol. Stinks that we missed you guys that weekend. Covid got me good for about a week, but we made it out finally. I’m sure we’ll be back there soon.

New sub here. I’m curious about cave diving and I’m scared to ever do it. Do you ever get scared that you’ll get trapped? What’s the most interesting thing you have ever found when cave diving? Thank you!!
@familyscuba12922 жыл бұрын
Welcome to the channel. Fear is a real and normal reaction to this type of diving. I feel it every time I enter a cave. That fear is what drives us to plan excessively and to go over our gear and equipment thoroughly. Done correctly it can be very safe. I’ve been trapped/stuck many times. Keeping a cool head helps manage the stress to think your way out. Watch my video from Ruth Spring. I talk about an incident that I was in a few weeks ago. To me the rock formations and the little critters are the coolest part. There blind animals that can only be found in certain caves. Those are cool to see when you spot them. Hopefully these videos will inspire you to try out new types of diving if you’re already certified or maybe get certified if your not.

Rad, just rad. I'm nothing short of jealous. When I make it out your way I hope we can dive together again; you have a standing offer to come dive with me if you ever make it to NorCal. What was run time, depth, TTS etc? I'm on a Choptima...it would be TIGHT lol
@familyscuba12922 жыл бұрын
Hey Jon. I might have to take you up on that offer some time. I’m always game for diving new locations. Total run time was just under 45 minutes but we didn’t make it all the way to the back and as a result never hit deco. Max depth was 115 feet. TTS never went above 4 minutes but the computer doesn’t know I’m in a cave and more like 20 minutes from the surface. Lol. @ + 5 is still useful but not as much as when wreck diving because depth isn’t always linear. Watching your ceiling on the exit is very handy, I use that all the time. John’s class is still some of the best training I’ve ever done. I use that knowledge on almost every dive. I considered the choptima before deciding on the sidewinder. I’m the one that’s jealous! I can’t wait to see diving it and for the opportunity to pick your brain about it.

We are always careful and plan accordingly. What did you race. Many years ago, I did a lot of track days on my Ducati 748. I eventually put an engine in it with the big bore upgrade. It was a blast. I miss it but now I have a new passion.

Do you ever want to pick up a pretty rock 🪨 and bring it back with you for a souvenir?
@familyscuba12922 жыл бұрын
I’d be lying if I said no. But I have no way of carrying it. Pockets are full of gear. I have found the errand pebble or two stuck somewhere or other on me when I’m taking everything off lol. There are some cool rocks made from layers of sediment that compressed over time in caves. The formations are usually amazing to look at.

There's boiling ice-melt every winter between Sherman's Peak and adjoining volcano. Hot gas has melted tunnels. Awful smell and it may get too warm within the year-around ice.

To be honest it’s not as dangerous as it looks. These caves have been around for tens of thousands of years if not longer. They aren’t going anywhere. Going inside is no different than taking a walk in a forest preserve in terms of taking in nature in its purest form. There are also many geological and scientific reasons to explore them which is why they were mapped out to begin with. I’m just just going in there to take in the view. I will admit, there are different strokes for different folks, which is why you’ll never catch me jumping out of a perfectly good air plane. Now that’s crazy. Or I’m just a scaredy-cat. Lol.
