Though not necessary in my opinion, the ability to remove the computer with the four pin cable is nice. Once at the Adv. Trimix level the needle oxygen valve and first stage reg upgrade are a must. The rest of the unit works perfectly out of the box.

Good video, I'm just about to strip, clean and service my unit for the first time any advice for best method for removing sorb buildup. Not sure I want to drown it in vinegar, do you use an ultrasonic cleaner for any of the components?
@familyscuba129214 күн бұрын
I don’t have much more to add for that unfortunately. I soak my canisters in a steramine vinegar solution. It’s around 1 cup of vinegar for a 2-3 gallons of water and steramine. Should probably be more but it gets the job done well enough. I rinse them out with water after. Haven’t noticed any residual odor or taste from the vinegar.

Thank you so much for letting us in on your sidewinder. How do you know/find what third party parts that can be used . Hopefully will be getting my class and SW soon. You answered most of my questions from your previous videos. Do you have to send it in for service like regular regulators or after you complete the training you can service it yourself?
@familyscuba129217 күн бұрын
You’re welcome. I follow several rebreather, Kiss and Sidewinder specific Facebook pages. Tons of great info on there. Mods like the needle valve are explained in depth when you take the advanced trimix class. Though there is a ton of info on them on scuba board and other sites as well. I do all the maintenance myself. Not sure if kiss even has a maintenance schedule/program. There is nothing to them and they are built to be serviced/repaired in the field of necessary.

Thanks for posting. I am at about 1.5 years and nearing 150 hours on mine. I would love to hear more about the ADV issue fix (I have a slide valve isolating my ADV and almost without exception keep it off. So…mine could have an issue and I would not know). Interesting what you said about the DSV. A buddy of mine recently swapped his out because he had grooves (his words not mine but same as yours) that had formed and resulted in some leaking. He switched to a different brand of DSV and says it breathes better (highly subjective). How are you cleaning the DSV??? I have never even removed the mushroom valves, LOL. A video on that might be good! Cheers and thanks again.
@familyscuba129218 күн бұрын
I have the old ADV valve stem. Easy enough to make a quick video of the problem and DSV maintenance. I’ll try to put it out tomorrow.

Thank you so much for posting this video it’s worth the wait. Could you elaborate more on the MAV and the orifice issue. Did you go with a third part MAV ?
@familyscuba129218 күн бұрын
It kept getting clogged. I’m not sure why. I ended buying the Fathom Oxygen needle valve. Works great and zero issues since. I should clarify that the orifice clogging was not an issue with my specific unit. It’s more of a mCCR problem given that the orifices used in the stock MAV’s are so small, it doesn’t take much to clog them. A common problem among all mCCR’s not just this specific one.

Do you think the chips in the coating of the canisters would have more flaking issues if it were used more in salt water? I think most of your hours are in fresh water.
@familyscuba129218 күн бұрын
Most of my dives are in freshwater for sure. Not sure. There are plenty of folks diving them in saltwater, never heard of any issues. I imagine the salt would affect the metal fittings more than the coating.

We see trout and bass at the mouth and going in and out all the time. Did you see anything more than the sunny in there? Is it safe to dive to that first sign or do you have to be cave certified to even go that far?
@familyscuba1292Ай бұрын
We didn’t see many fish inside beyond the area where light still gets in. To dive this location you need to be at least cavern certified. That will get you to the sign. You need Full cave to dive further back. Given the depth and how quickly it gets deep it’s almost not worth it unless you are certified to do decompression dives as well. On all accounts it’s a pretty serious dive. Divers have gotten certified at that location. Get your cavern cert. Maybe you’ll stop at cavern or maybe you’ll catch the bug like the rest of us.
