I can't help but think, that just moving the chain staple, would have been a whole pile less work. :)

Likely everyone’s first thought but this is about doing something properly rather than a short cut.

​@@rosshardy3597 Well ... half proper. Timber braces on both gate posts is the "proper" prevention and cure.

Aaaah, strainer WIRES are only as good as the second post they brace off. A diagonal STRAINER POST is the proper first install (ie prevention) and repair for crooked gate posts. Also, the latching post may have moved. Again, a diagonal wooden brace on long runs is best.
