Thank you for posting this!! I wasn’t sure how to tighten a cuff and all of the other videos I’ve seen weren’t quite what I was looking for. 👍😀

Thanks - fast and clear without music! One question: when machine-sewing around to fix a fraying cuff, or adding bias tape, why does it flare out, & how do I prevent that? TY!
@cinderellasew2 жыл бұрын
Darn I don’t use bias tape but that was probably the problem!
@cinderellasew2 жыл бұрын
Maybe try a bigger stitch setting? More spaced out stitches?
@BlurnGanston2 жыл бұрын
One thing I’ve since learned is: going through the machine, knit fabric (cuff) is stretching, and the new stitches lock in that stretch. I cut a piece of bias tape 1” longer than the circumference - sewed around, and ended up 1” short! (Bias tape doesn’t stretch). *But*, then applied your technique here to tighten the cuff - and it worked! I’m a beginner; it looked super-ugly but very effective. 😊

😮 I just tried this on a new cardigan I got that had rather baggy sleves...Im now feeling very accomplished as it worked a charm. While my lines weren't exactly even its not very noticeable once the cardigan is on. Thanks so much for the simple instructions 😁

You made this seam (pun intended!) so easy! Question: Could I taper from the other side, because I was thinking I might like to make a thumb hole on the inside seam where you had tapered it? Thanks!

Yes great idea! Just do some back stitches on either side of the thumb hole so it doesn’t come out! I love that look. And I love your pun

Can i do this on the entire sleeve? Like up to the top? Also can i cut the excess ?
@cinderellasew3 жыл бұрын
Yes and Yes! Just make sure you don't try to make the armholes *where the sleeves meets the shoulder* any smaller. Leave that the same size. Very hard to change a round part like that!

Will it work on coat arms??

Does this work on a windbreaker?
@cinderellasew4 жыл бұрын
yes, although you might need a good sharp needle to sew it with. try testing your needle to make sure it slides through easily on an inside seam or something. you can buy sharper needles at pharmacies! look for vinyl or leather needles. good luck!
@sleepintrouble34294 жыл бұрын
would it be okay to cut off the excess material? nothing would come undone?
@cinderellasew4 жыл бұрын
it is all good because cotton is a knit fabric, meaning it will not fray when cut. unlike something that is woven, which will come undone. you're good to go
@sophiexo16854 жыл бұрын
But that seems like it would not last? To sort this would I just repeat it
@cinderellasew4 жыл бұрын
it will last! but yes, the more stitches you want to do, the stronger it is :)

Lol, this is why I'm here too. I'm about to try it soon and I'll report back. I have some vintage 70s and 80s Nike Windbreakers and the elastic is finished. It looks like a walking monster it's so wide, I'm hoping this tighents them.
@Xtremecarfan101885 жыл бұрын
Well guess what, it worked on a 100% 80s Nylon Nike Windbreaker. I think it came out better than the sleeve in the video, jkjk. Seriously it looks like it was from the factory. I don't know how I did so perfect first try. Thank you Cinderella Sew! You just earned a new subscriber!
