Thanks Alan. I just adjusted my parking brake on my 2004 Escalade ESV by watching your video. My E-Brake pad on one side came unglued and fell off so I just changed both sides and adjusted them accordingly. Holds like a Champ now. Thanks again!!!

Great to the point how-to video. Thank You for taking the time out to put it together and to post it. Looks pretty basic. I missed the step in a complete brake rebuild thinking the adjuster was accessible from the back of the disc guard. I figured the new E-pads would not require much adjustment since they were spankin' new. But, no Bueno. So I took it all back apart. I assume you just keep adjusting the pads until they slightly rub when reinstalling the rotors. That extra step would of been helpful to confirm the task. Otherwise, great work. Cheers. CC ;-)

why is there no adjustment hole? like many other cars?
@mm-nl3qz
@mm-nl3qz 5 жыл бұрын
There is an adjustment hole on the inside mount (sorry for the lack of better terminology) so for a better description... the pov you see here the rotor sheild there, the other side of that around where the brake lines connect, theres a black rubber plug thats tucked in this space, youll definitely need a flashlight and a pick tool to pull it out then use a screwtriver or some sort of flat rigid piece of metal to push on the spokes of the adjustment there... imo its a lot easier to just pull the tire and rotor off, only problem is if you adjust it too much you cant get the rotor back on and if you loosen it too much it wont properly make contact with the inside of the rotor

Has anyone had this issue: Brand new rotors and parking brake shoes. But the shoes just barely fit into the rotor inner drum, and when installed, you can barely get rotor over the new shows? Adjusters bottomed out and brand new. Tried both type of rotors and multiple brands of shoes, all extremely snug. All videos on here make it seem like shoes will be loose when installed. Would love some help. Thanks!

That adjustment can be done without removing anything, including the tire and wheel. Use a brake spoon thru the hole in the backing plate. Unless you just want to inspect the shoe.

This model does not have the hole on the front or back... Unless you have the special tool that I was not willing to buy for one job this is the only method.

I've replaced the guts that spread the parking brake shoes I'm not sure how the arm the ebrake cable goes back into the back side of the cylinder to spread the ebrake shoe to engage the ebrake. how does that part go in?

Great which way did you turn it to tighten, clockwise or counter. Hard to tell from thevideo - thanks
@chrischrestensen3885

The end of the adjustment wheel is threaded. If you don't start seeing there threads, turn it the other way. Also, it basically bottoms out. So there's only one other way you can go from there. I used a set of needle-nosed vice grips; not std. pliers. ;-)

Is this 2 1/4 turns to tighten or to loosen. I ask because this mechanism is supposedly “self -adjusting”, so if you would tighten it wouldn’t it make it extra tight since it is self adjusting? I am assuming it is 2 1/4 turn to loosen since if you were to loosen and bolt everything back up wouldn’t it self adjust to specs?

Self-adjusts are not on this setup that I see; They were used in previous era but are easy to detect even in the video▬they are not present as they are obvious

Does this add tension to the cable itself? I have the 4.8 liter V8 Regular cab work truck package and the parking brake pedal just falls to the floor with no resistance. None of the cables are broken, and it still kind of holds the truck.
@Bigal65000
@Bigal65000 8 жыл бұрын
yes and no...Once you tighten what I show you in the video the cable will not need to be "as tight". There is a separate adjustment that tightens the cable. I no longer have this truck but if memory serves it is 3-5' along the cable, forward of the rear brakes. it is ready to get to and can be adjusted without removing anything using two sets of pliers.
@Bigal65000
@Bigal65000 8 жыл бұрын
if your pedal literally falls to the floor without any resistance then the cable has either detached at one of the storeroom points or it has broken inside one of the shelled areas where you can't see it. if that happens you will need to replace.

+Alan Wood Thank you for the reply. I know the second location you're talking about and I just tightened that as much as I could. There's a tiny bit of resistance now, but I'm going to need to check both of the cables that branch off of the intermediate cable. You're probably right about one of those two being broken. Thank you!
@Bigal65000
@Bigal65000 8 жыл бұрын
no. this reduces the distance the pads must travel. you can try adding a piece of steel pipe onto the tightening mechanism to"add" some threads to the cable tightening. there are some picks on Google to shows this... issue is that you might break the cable and get hurt. there is also a short cable (18") that runs from the pedal to just under the truck... check that because mine broke there a few years ago.

@@ChiDraconis I hate smarmy answers when people ask a simple question. People come to KZbin to learn Mr. Jordan. Your answer must have made you feel really good on the inside. This is a simple procedure and he had a legitimate question but you decided to be a dick.

Looks like the old-style-where you simply gimmy with a brake-spoon? Watching the video not finished yet the goal is to tighten some without busting tire-shop installed lugs - they installed with torque wrench which I do not have · Did plenty of the old-style and only need to "get some" does not need fully correct → to account for wear
